24: Warning
Rick's P.O.V
It's been 2 weeks. 2 weeks since I found out Michonne is pregnant.
My arms are itchy, palms are sweaty, fingers are shaky, I can't keep the secret.
I feel as if I'm going to blurt it any moment now. To anyone! Maybe to some stranger on the street, or maybe someone very close to me.
I need to get my mind off of this.
Just as I gathered my guns and gear into my truck, I heard a small car pull in the parking lot. The gravel beneath the soft tires sounded wonderful. I don't know why, but I've always loved that sound.
I slammed my trunk shut, and glanced at the small silver car. Soon enough, the drivers door opened and out stepped a face far too familiar.
"Wassup!" Jay smiled. His hair was in a bun and it agitated me. I hate when boys put their hair in buns, I hate it even when my son does it. Buns aren't meant for men.
"What?" I sighed, running my hand over my face.
He approached me, whilst running his hands along my police car.
"I came to get your favor."
"For what?"
"Drop the attitude fam. Why you so stressed?"
"I have to patrol today. You're stopping me from getting there earlier." I explained.
"Oh my bad, my bad. It'll be quick," he cleared his throat and fixed his posture, like he was about to tell me I had 7 days left to live.
"Can I ask Carl to homecoming?"
WHAT
My eyes widened and my jaw dropped... He goes that way?
Holy hell, who would've ever known?!
Jay tilted his head a bit, waiting for an answer until he finally realized what I was thinking.
"I ain't gay though." He jarred.
"Well Jay why are you taking him to homecoming. That's not how dates work." I laughed.
"He's my best friend yo. We just friends."
"Sure," I smiled.
"Chill out fam," he crossed his arms and frowned up, "can he come with me or not?"
"I guess. I don't care."
"That's wassup. I'll ask him tomorrow. Expect me."
"Alright, Jayden. I have to go I'll see you later."
I quickly walked to the other side of my car and got in, but he still stood there and watched confoundedly.
Suddenly, he latched onto the passenger's door handle and swung it open.
"I wanna come!"
"Noooo!" I shouted.
"C'mon dude, let me ride along."
"It's dangerous out there."
"Oh yeah? What kind of dangerous crime ever happens in Kings County?" He argued.
Ugh. He's right. Nothing ever happens in this town..
"Why? Why do you feel the need to annoy me today?" I asked in exasperation.
"I'm not. I just want to see how it is on duty."
There was silence. He stared at me with empathy and slyly smiled, and I couldn't seem to deny.
"Fine," I sighed "but if I encounter any sort of crime you have to promise me you'll stay in the car."
He nodded and quickly hopped in the car, like an excited 6 year old.
Hell, Carl was never even this excited when I dragged hm along my job.
"Buckle up." I said.

"What is th--"
"Don't touch that!" I exclaimed, slapping his hand away from my dispatcher radio.
"What about this?" He asked, as he reached into my duffel bag and pulled out my speedometer.
"It helps me catch people speeding."
"Hm," he nodded "That makes sense... can I use it?"
"Knock yourself out."
He happily turned the speedometer on, followed by several beeps.
He examined it, confused on what to do next.
"Point it at the road."
He held the speedometer against the window like a gun, aiming it at traffic.
Technically, he's doing my job.
I sat back and picked at the tearing leather on my steering wheel. There wasn't really much to talk about with the kid, he was enjoying himself. Simple as that.
Unanticipatedly, the speedometer began to ring rapidly. Jay anxiously pat me until I sat back up, cranked the car up and targeted the speeding victim.
And when I did---
Hell, it can't be.
"It feels good to be the one chasing after someone for once. You know, ha, it's vice versa." Jay laughed.
What?
I quickly swung back onto the road and chased after the black Nissan. They didn't speed up or try to switch lanes but instead they cooperated and pulled over.
I did the same and got out the car, looking all badass.
I clutched my belt and approached the driver's window, to find exactly who I expected.
"Michonne, what the hell?" I sighed.
"Hello officer, what can I help you with today?"
"You were going 10 over."
"I'm aware," she nodded.
Why is she so positive about me pulling her over!?
"I have to give you a warning you know that right?"
"Well, yeah, it's your job but can I get a kiss too?"
Dear God I love this woman.
I leaned in and kissed her lips, slowly pulling away and smiling.
"I'll be back with your warning, Meesh."
I turned around and placed my hands on my belt again cause I knew she was watching me in her rear view. I walked like a western cowboy she often said.
"Did you just kiss a random lady?!" Jay exclaimed as I reached into the car and grabbed my ticket book.
"It's Michonne," I laughed.
Without further ado, he quickly hopped out the car and ran to Michonne's, and I met him there.
"Damn girl what you doing speeding?" He asked.
"Well," she chuckled "Andre's birthday is next week ya know and Beth asked if I wanted to have a big party at her house, and I agreed. She told me I needed to get the party stuff ready so she could alert the family that he will be having a party."
"That's so nice of her." I smiled.
"I don't really know them people but imma go cause Andre my lil dude."
"They're nice people." I nodded "anyway, shouldn't you be home -- resting?"
"I wanted chicken nuggets.. and ice cream." She argued.
"Well, you don't have to speed, okay? Be safe."
I wrote her name onto the ticket and handed it to her. It was just a warning so she took it politely. I didn't want to have to give her anything but it's my job and I swore to be a faithful policeman, like my grandfather was.
"I guess I better be going now.. to get my chicken nuggets."
"Be safe," I smiled, shyly yet full of caution.
"I love you. See you at home."
I glanced down at her hand that was resting upon her stomach and for a moment in time, my heart warmed and my fingers tingled snd I got all happy on the inside. Just thinking about it!
How wonderful is it that we're having a baby? Who would've ever guessed that when I met this lady almost 10 months ago, that we would be here now?
"I will." She nodded.
"I guess I'll see you later cuz." Jay added, fiddling with his bun and staring her up and down.
"Until then."
