2: Graduation party
Michonne's P.O.V
"Well are you gonna go by there?" Andrea asked, while applying mascara in the bathroom mirror.
"No, I'm not interested." I said, stuffing the last bit of toast into my mouth.
"C'mon Meesh, he's a cop. It don't get much better than that, give him a chance."
"Uh uh, nope.."
"Why not?" she frowned.
"Because I just got out of a relationship with Mike.. I'm not ready for a new one."
She sighed and continued on with her mascara, "I'm not saying date the man, I'm just saying you should get to know him."
"why don't you get to know him?" I shot back.
"Oh no, Meesh, you know I'm seeing Philip." She laughed
"Oh yeah, that's right. When will I ever get to meet him anyway?"
"This weekend, in fact, my good friend Beth is having a college graduation party. I'm invited, everyone is invited. So, Philip is coming down from Woodbury to visit and congratulate her --- and you can meet him there." She smiled.
"And what makes you think I'm going to some stranger's party?" I scoffed
"Because you're my best friend and you need to get out the house, starting with visiting Officer Walsh today."
I giggled and sipped from my coffee, "You can't make me."
She ran her fingers through her hair and looked at me in frustration, "Meesh just please go."
As much as I didn't want to.... I guess I have to.
I hate seeing Andrea upset with me, I try to make her happy.. It's the least I can do for her,
since my son and I live with her and all.
"Fine." I sighed.
"Yay!" She smiled, "Well, since Andre is down for nap, I'll watch him until you get back home."
"..don't you have somewhere to be?" I asked
"Nope. why?"
"Well, you're getting all dolled up.."
"Oh, I'm video chatting Philip later." she exclaimed.
Are you kidding? She's putting all this makeup on just to video chat?
I laughed and shook my head at her.
I love Andrea, and I'm glad she and I get to live together now. She's been my best friend since as long as I can remember.
I grabbed my keys from off the dresser and my purse and headed out the door..
"Bye Andrea."
"Byee, have fun!"
how could I possibly have fun, talking to a guy who's interested in me, but I'm not interested in him?
I sighed and walked out the front door, to my car and cranked it up.
here goes nothing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Can you guys make a little note on the cups saying, 'Thank you for protecting us, Sincerely Michonne'?" I spoke into the intercom at Starbucks.
"No problem Ma'am, how do you spell Michonne?"
"M- I-C-H-O-N-N-E."
"Okay, I got you down for two double ristretto venti half-soy nonfat decaf organic chocolate brownie iced vanilla double-shot gingerbread frappuccino extra hot with foam whipped cream upside down double blend with one sweet'n'low and one nutrasweet. Does this complete your order?"
I know I'm going over board with their drinks, but this is what I always order and let me tell you, IT GIVES YOU A KICK.
I'm getting coffee for hard working police men, I know they're tired and this will wake them up.
"Yep!"
"Your total is 10.39 at the first window."
I pulled up and readied my money, so when the lady opened the window, I payed her.
"Thank you, come again!" She smiled, while handing me the drinks.
I love people who work at restaurants with positive attitudes, it always makes me want to come back.
I handed her an extra $5 tip for being so polite and drove off.
I cranked up the music and jammed along to the radio, my favorite song was on and I got all hype. I threw my hands in the hair, shooting them like guns while singing along.
"Yeah I know they after me, I run this chocolate factory! So baby come thru, come thru, if you know what's good for you.. My mama made me thick yeah my body is legit, I don't know why them other girls talk shh!"
I don't curse, or at least I try not to, and this song has a few bad words.
I drove to the jail house and casually got out with the drinks in my hand. There was only one car in the parking lot today, it was rather empty.
hmph, oh well.
I dramatically swayed my hips and fiercely walked to the door, my hands were full so I knocked my hip against the door, and watched as the officer from yesterday hopped up and opened the door for me.
"Hey, Shane isn't here right now," He said nervously.
"Oh that's okay..." I rushed in and placed the coffee on the desk and glanced at him, "I just brought by some coffee for you and uh, Shane."
I didn't realize how completely mesmerizing his sky blue eyes were until I stared directly into them.
A rush of anxiety began to fill my body and suddenly I couldn't look him in the eyes anymore or I'd freeze up.
"How nice of you." He chuckled "What is this?" He asked, picking up a cup.
"A double ristretto venti half-soy nonfat decaf organic chocolate brownie iced vanilla double-shot gingerbread frappuccino extra hot with foam whipped cream upside down double blend with one sweet'n'low and one nutrasweet."
His eyes widened at me and we both shared a laugh.
"Is it safe because I have no idea what you just said but I really need coffee." He smiled
I tried to look him in the eyes again but I just couldn't, If I did, I'd probably pass out.
So instead, I stared down at my boots and fiddled with my fingers behind my back.
"Yeah, It's actually really safe and healthy... Organic and fat free." I said
He took a sip from the straw and ran his tongue over his teeth, "I like it. Thank you so much for bringing it by! Uh, I don't know when Shane will be back, he's guiding a funeral, so you might wanna take this other coffee. But I'll tell him you stopped by."
I looked him in the eyes and he smiled at me, "Or you could stay and chat for a while-- I mean-- you ain't got to.. yeah, uh.."
I grabbed the other coffee off the counter and leaned against the bar, while he sat down.
Honestly I can't remember his name, I only know him by Sheriff Grimes because of his name tag. This is so awkward.
"I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name yesterday," I said shyly, whilst pulling my hair behind my ears.
"Rick, Rick Grimes."
"It's nice to meet you Rick Grimes."
"It's nice to have you here, Michonne."
I nodded and sipped from my coffee, "How is your day so far?" I solicited.
"Slow, you?"
"Rather boring."
"Ah..Well, there's this froyo shop downtown, and I get off work at 5.. My son and I could totally swing by and pick you and Andre up and we could have some froyo, I promise I won't bore you." he suggested
"I can't go on a date with you while your friend is interested in me." I giggled
"Oh, no! It's not a date, unless you want it to be, but no, it's not a date.." He stammered
I smiled at how nervous he was and dramatically sipped from my coffee, "It's fine. I'm not interested in him anyway and it will not be a date,"
He exhaled the breath he was holding in and smiled, "cool."
"So, you have a son?"
"Yeah, uh, his name is Carl. He's 16 and he's a great boy. Can't wait for you to meet him. How old is Andre?"
I held up three fingers because my mouth was filled with coffee and I couldn't speak at the moment.
"I remember when Carl was three." he brushed a few curls from his face and what seemed like to me, frowned.
"Yeah, they grow up so fast." the conversation was dying and I was running out charisma.
"You look great, by the way." he chuckled
"Really? I only have on a tshirt and some jeans."I said, looking down and examining myself.
"Such a simple girl, yet so beautiful."he murmured
Such a charmer. Rick seems to be the ole sweet southern boy you'd watch a 'my deadly attraction' documentary about.
Attractive yet deadly.
"Why thank you." I smiled
Suddenly, a short blond girl stumbled through the door, with a few bags in her hand.
"There's my favorite Grad!" Rick said, coming from behind the counter to give her a great big hug.
The height difference was fairly large, so she had to stand on the tip of her toes to wrap her arms around his neck.
She must be someone close to him.
Rick released from the hug and walked the girl up to me.
"Beth this is Michonne, Michonne this is Beth." He said
Beth.. Beth... Where do I know that name from?
The young girl smiled and held her hand out to mine, "nice to meet you."
Her voice was so soft and innocent, like she's never done anything wrong in her life and her face was so beautiful, it seemed like it was carved personally by the god above.
"You too." I smiled
"So, why the drop by?" Rick asked
"I just came by to remind you that my graduation party is this Saturday. So don't forget to swing by,"
OH, THAT'S WHERE I KNOW HER FROM.
The grad party Andrea was telling me about earlier.
"Oh, my friend Andrea is going to your party.. She even invited me." I said
Beth raised her eyebrows and nodded, "oh, uh, you're welcome to come." She smiled
"Oh yeah, I'll be there."
"It's formal by the way!" she said, turning back toward the door.
Formal? God I hate dresses.
"I'll see you Saturday, Beth." Rick murmured
"Bye!"
"So you're going?" Rick asked, as soon as Beth stepped out the door.
"I guess I'll go."
"Cool, Uh, can I p-pick you up and we go together?" He stammered
Eh, I guess so. Andrea and Philip will be riding together and I can't sit through all the lovey dovey stuff.
"Sure, why not?" I smiled
"Alright can I get your number then?" he smoldered his lips and lowered his eyebrows.
Classical puppy face.
"You're cute," I giggled, "It's 912-333-7722. Don't forget."
He ran behind the counter and scribbled my number on the nearest piece of paper.
"I'll give you a ring?"
You'll give me a ring? What is this 2007?
I raised an eyebrow at him and grabbed my things.
"I'll be waiting then."
"Well, yeah uh have a great day-- I'll see you tonight." he said as I turned my back and walked toward the door.
"Maybe," I giggled.
Play hard to get, play hard to get.
"What?"
"Bye Rick."
"Wait no! well.. Bye Michonne."
