14: Smile
Rick's P.O.V
Here we go. The day I've dreaded.
Oh man I hope they like her... I really hope they like her because -- I really like her.
It would be a shame if my parents didn't like the girl I'm falling for..wouldn't that be tragic?
I look over to my right, as Michonne laid in her seat. It was a little farther back, since there was a lot of room in the back seat.
We didn't bring the kids today, Jay and Carl decided to babysit Andre at my place, so we left them home. It's just me and her on our way to Tybee Island to see my parents.
And as I drive down this highway, my hands are shaking because I'm anxious---and happy at the same time.
Since I hate sitting in silence, I crank the radio on and turn to my favorite country station, where one of my favorite songs was playing.
I hummed along to the beat and in the corner of my eye, I could see Michonne watching me.
Without hesitation, I looked at Michonne and lifted her chin with my index finger, to which she gave a shy smile.
I sung to her slowly, making sure I looked directly into her deep brown eyes-- but I also kept glancing back at the road so we wouldn't crash.
"You make me smile like the sun
Fall outta bed
Sing like a bird
Dizzy in my head
Spin like a record
Crazy on a Sunday night
You make me dance like a fool
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold
Buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Oh, you make me smile."
I'm not that good of a singer, but I sure did make her smile.
But there was something about the way she grinned; the way butterflies escaped from the pit of my stomach and the way the sun had by one means or another, toppled down from the sky and made a home in her heart. She had the sort of grin that fulfilled you to be invigorated and simply smitten.
Ugh, she makes me happy.
"Beautiful." I chuckled.
She continued to smile whilst staring out the window, deep in he thoughts.
"You got anything on your mind?" I asked.
She sighed and ran her fingers through her hair, "last night, Andre asked when he could go and see his dad-- and I didn't want to break his heart so I said someday. But I--"
"You've told me." I nodded.
I can't stand to hear her repeat the fact that Mike never wanted Andre from the git-go, I mean, how could you not? He's a bright and happy boy and I would love to have him as my son. You better believe it.
"How about I take him out?" I smiled.
She turned toward me and stared with a befuddled look across her face, reading "are you insane?"
"You're not his dad though, Rick, but I appreciate your offer and all." She sighed once more and her smile faded.
Gosh I hate seeing her like this.
"Not taking no for an answer."
She shook her head and smiled once more, "I got lucky to be Rick Grimes' girlfriend."
No. I got lucky to be with her.
"You're my side chick," I laughed, to which she gently punched my arm.
"Is that so?" She grinned.
"Nah you're wifey material."
"Oh my God, Rick.. who's teaching you how to speak like this?" She giggled.
"When you're not over, Jay just randomly stops by and I'm usually stuck with him and Carl. I've picked up the way he talks." I explained.
She laughed and then took her phone out and opened her snapbook, instasnap-- whatever-- and pointed the camera toward me and her.
"Smile!" She exclaimed.
I looked over to the camera for a quick second and smiled quick enough so she could snap a picture.
"This one may be my favorite one yet."
God bless, she says this everytime we take a new picture.. and she takes a new picture everytime we are together..
It's fine though, I'm pretty photogenic.
"I'm bored." She sighed
"We're almost there."
"But-- I wanna do something fun!" She argued.
"Michonne there's nothing fun to do in a car."
"There is if you park over," she laughed.
NO.
She took her fingers and wrapped them in my curls, then ran them down my neck and around the collar of my shirt, unanticipatedly making me twitch.
"Michonne what are you doing?" I chuckled faintly.
She said nothing, instead she leaned over and placed a kiss on my jawline, sending a rush down my spine.
Her fingers crept down my arms and down my sides, and she was getting closer and closer to my hotspot.
"Stop." I demanded, looking into her eyes to let her know I was serious.
She smiled and continued to inch her fingers toward my pants.
I gripped the steering wheel tighter and tried to focus on the road but she was just asking for it. And we don't have the time in the day.
She lifted my shirt and began to unbuckle my pants and that's when I couldn't take it anymore.
I slowed down, coming to a dead ended road. There, I parked and stared her in the eyes mischievously.
"Get over here," I grunted aggressively.
She hopped over on me and I leaned my seat back, Michonne is wild and spontaneous, and she's always down for a little fun. That's another thing I like about her, as if her personality wasn't enough.

We finally arrived at my parents house a quarter till 4, and when we stepped inside-- we were greeted with big hugs and kisses, from mama. She kissed all over me, and she kissed all over Michonne's cheeks, even though it's her first time meeting..I mean that's just how it is in the South.
Everyone has a little sweetness in their blood. Some more than others.
"It's nice to meet you!" Michonne smiled, taking a step back to examine my parents up and down.
"Oh it's nice to meet you too!" Ma exclaimed, throwing her arms over Michonne and pulling her into a hug.
"Agh, he tells me that you make him so happy and I'm glad! He needs a little happiness in his life."
"Well he makes me very happy too." Her eyes trailed over to mine and she stared at me shyly.
"You are a chocolate delight!"
oh my god.
"Mom!" I groaned, to which Michonne giggled lightly.
Thinking quickly, I pull Michonne away from away from my mom and to my side.
"You are beautiful." Dad smiled.
"Hey, ole man, this my girlfriend." I laughed, as he placed his hands in the air.
"You are very handsome yourself, sir, and you Mrs. Grimes," Michonne turned toward my mother and beamed a smile that shone for miles, "Are one beautiful lady!"
Mom shyly pat Michonne's hand and fluttered her eyelashes repeatedly.
"Oh, stop it!"
That meant, continue.. cause ma's always been a compliment chaser.
"Well how about we start on dinner, sweetie?" Mama asked.
"Sounds great!"
Mom took Michonne's hand and led her to the kitchen, leaving me and Dad standing in the hallway looking dumb as ever.
Well atleast I know my mother likes my girlfriend.
"You want to watch the golf tournament?" Pops asked.
"Sure." I sighed.
