1: Nevertheless
Rick's P.O.V
"Yeah man! And then she showed up looking like a clown!" Shane exclaimed.
I laughed and laughed at another one of my best friend's stories about another disaster online hookup.
He's got many of these, maybe a new one every week, but no matter how many I hear-- they'll always be hilarious and I'll always listen.
"What was her name?" I asked in between endless laughs.
"Kiki," he imitated a very sassy girl and pretended to flip his hair, "I'm telling you, she had 8 pounds of makeup on."
We glanced at each other and chuckled once more.
Shane Walsh is my best friend, he's been my best friend since grade school and we've been through everything, from his first heartbreak to the death of my wife last year.
And I truly am grateful to have such a great best friend, not many loyal people out there nowadays.
"You're pretty charismatic --- just go out to a club or something and lay your moves on a girl, or a guy.. Whatever floats your boat, Walsh." I chuckled
"I don't want no clubbing girl, and you shut up Grimes 'for I marry you."
I laughed and began stroking the scruff on my face, "How about a girl just walking down the street, eh? What about the next woman that walks in here." I suggested
I often try and help Shane find a soul mate... And I do as much as I can 'cause he introduced me into Lori when we were in highschool.... I owe him.
"Hell no! Every woman that walks in here is either a crack head or married and visiting her dead beat husband." He laughed.
True, true... This is a jail house after all.
Suddenly, a tall dark skinned woman with big brown eyes and pearly white teeth stormed through the door with a small boy on her hip.
She had dread locks, but she kept them pulled from her face. She wore a revealing, but cute, brown swede outfit. The skirt was a bit high, and it showed off her long promising legs. Her top cut off and it was sort of a design, but it showed her belly and it didn't have sleeves, which showed off her very muscular arms.
She happily walked up to the desk and stared at Shane and I.
"Hi," She said
Shane looked at me and raised his eyebrows and looked back at the lady.
"Hi, Miss. I'm Officer Walsh is there anything I can help you with?" Shane said, in the most pacific tone I've ever heard him speak in.
"Uh, yeah, actually I was wondering if I could file a restraining order." She said
"Oh- uh, yeah." He turned to the filing cabinet and shot me a look while he sorted through papers.
"I'm Sheriff Grimes," I said, extending my hand to hers.
"Nice to meet you, Sheriff Grimes." She smiled
After we shook hands, we just sat there waiting for Shane to return with the restraining order papers.. he was taking forever and the silence was so awkward.
She didn't tell me her name, and I've never seen her around town.
And I know almost everyone, I'm a sheriff and King's County is a very small place.
She must be new.
Shane returned with the papers and handed her a pen, "Who is this out on?" he asked
"My boyfriend-- I mean, ex-boyfriend.. Michael Anthony." she said
"Well, here, write his name down and yours and the reason why you're filing this order and I can type it up in the system for you." He handed her then pen and smiled widely.
She struggled to settle her son and write at the same time, so Shane took matters into his own hands, being the gentleman that he is.
"Here, let me see him," Shane said, reaching his hands out to the boy.
The lady leaned forward and passed the boy to Shane.
"Hey, what's your name big guy?"
The little boy stared at Shane and raised his eyebrows, "Andre." He murmured.
"Cool to meet you, Andre. I'm Shane... I, uh, didn't catch your mom's name," He said, staring at the lady.
She sat up and smiled, "Oh sorry, I'm Michonne." She shyly moved her dreads from her face and continued writing.
Michonne....
Pretty name for a pretty girl.
Shane walked around with the boy in his hands, showing him pictures of all our officers on the wall.
I got up and walked over to him, "She seems decent." I whispered.
He looked at me and smiled, "Hell yeah. I change my mind. She's single and she's gorgeous, I'm taking your advice."
He returned to the counter with Michonne and I followed.
"So, uh, I-- you new to town?" He asked
"Yeah.. I'm from Atlanta." She said
"What made you choose King's County?"
"I have a friend here...plus it's nice and small." Every time she smiled, I just seemed to zone away..She was so hypnotizing, nothing like any other woman in King's County.
She handed the papers to Shane and took her son back from him.
"Well, It was really nice meeting you. You can pick up a copy from the courthouse tomorrow." Shane said, happily, he reached into our candy jar and handed her son a small lollipop.
"Thank you!" She shot one last smile and walked toward the door.
"WAIT!" Shane exclaimed.
Michonne turned her head back to Shane and lowered her eyebrows, "What?"
"It'd be nice if you stopped by here sometime. I'd like to see you again."
Her face sorta turned to a frown but she covered it up with smile, "I'll see." and then she pushed through the door, leaving Shane blushing.

After a long day of work, I pushed through the front door, met by Carl sitting on the couch playing video games without a care in the world.
"Sup loser." he greeted.
"Hey," I said, hanging up my jacket.
When I flopped on the couch, Ron, Carl's friend, came trailing out out the kitchen with a bowl of chips in his hand.
"Wassuh," He said, sitting beside me.
I looked over at the clock and back at Ron, "Jessie letting you stay over this late?" I asked
"yeah, and I'm not lying this time.. no need to call her, she told me I could stay over til 11."
I sighed and grabbed a few chips from his bowl, stuffing them into my mouth.
I've known Ron and his family for about a couple months now.
It all started with a sleepover for the boys. His mom was being over protective and insisted on meeting me.
She's single and we went on a few dates after we met, but she's not my type so, you know.. I ended it.
It's way too soon to move on anyway. My wife just died a little over a year ago.
It hurts to even think about it, I wish I could've saved her.
I remember it all, I won't ever forget.
It was a fair Saturday, and I had just returned from golfing with my good friends Hershel and Glenn. I often went golfing with them when I just needed time to cool off from an argument with Lori or something. Our marriage was at it's worse and all we did was fuss but for some reason I couldn't get the courage to end it. I still loved her and after the golfing session I rushed home to tell her that.
I stopped to get roses on the way home, and I was all set to tell her I still love her.
When I crept up the stairs, there was dead silence, Carl wasn't home because I had dropped him off at the farm with Beth, and there's usually some type of noise in the house while she's home.
So, I knew something was up.
I just wish it wasn't what I saw.
I wish I could take back seeing her laying on the bathroom floor, with an empty pill bottle in her hand and her red lipstick on the mirror reading, "I can't do it anymore."
"Dad?" Carl exclaimed
"huh-- yeah?" I stammered
"You okay?" He asked
.
.
.
.
"Nevertheless..." I lied.
"Cool," He tossed a controller to me and I caught it just in time for it not to hit me in the head, "Call of duty, zombies level 1.. Let's go." He said
Ron, Carl and I played and focused on the game, trying to pass the level we never could.
Level 12. ugh! We try our hardest.
"How was work?" Ron asked
I scoffed and leaned back in the chair, "Slow day..Met this girl new to town, though."
"Is she cute, do she got a booty?" He chuckled
"I wasn't looking at her butt, but she is very pretty." I laughed
"Oooh, you better get her before anyone else can."
"Ron shut up and focus.." Carl demanded
"Alright, Alright."
before anyone else can, he said.
