Avi woke the next morning with a project on his mind. He rushed through his morning chores so that he could get started.

He walks out into the woods. He would pick up a twig and place it between his fingers then close his eyes to get the feel of it. It had to be a perfect size or it wouldn't work. After several tries, he finally found the right size twig.

He took his knife and cut a small section from a twig that he knew had the best wood for the job, then headed back to his work shop. He had never tried to make anything like this before. It may not even work but he was gonna give it his best shot.

He went into the house and grabbed the cordless phone that someone had given them. It was the next best thing to having a cell phone. He could carry it with him to the shop in case his worry wart sister called.

He had been working quite a while on his project, having to restart a few times. But it was beginning to take shape. He had it in a vice and was using a small carving tool to carve designs into it. He laid down the tool and was stretching his aching back when the phone rang.

"Hello?" He answers rubbing his strained eyes.

"Well, hello there, good-looking." Kirstie giggles.

"Hey there, cutie." Avi smiles, happy to hear her voice.

"Whatcha doing?" She asks in a childlike voice.

"Making you something." He says softly.

"Awww, what is it?" She asks.

"I'm not telling you. It's a surprise. Besides, it may not turn out the way I'm hoping it to." He replies getting up from his stool and stretching.

"Oh, you're such a perfectionist." She giggles.

"Should that make me mad. Cause I don't even know what that means." Avi laughs.

"No silly." Kirstie laughs. "It means you have to have everything just perfect."

"Oh, O.K." He laughs. "Well yea, because it's for you."

"You're so sweet." She smiles as Esther rolls her eyes and puts a finger to her mouth as if she were gagging herself.

"I may be finished with it by the time you get off work if you wanna come by." Avi says. "It won't hurt my feelings if you don't like it."

"Honey, I've seen your work. I'm sure it's gonna be beautiful. I have to go, just had customers come in." She says.

"Alright, I'll see ya this evening." He smiles as they ended the call.

He picks up the tool and gets busy finishing the design. He sanded it to give it a smooth finish. He then brushed a coating over it to give it a more wood grain look and to help protect the wood. He set it aside for the coating to dry. "Not bad if I do have to say so myself." He chuckles, looking at his finished project.

There was a knock on the door as he was cleaning up. He stops and looks at the door.

"Hey, Kid. It's me." His sister calls out to him. He reaches and unlocks the door for her.

"I didn't know it was getting that late." He says putting away the broom. "Is Kirstie here?"

"No, she had to run to the store. She'll be here in a bit. She said you made her something. Can I get a sneak peek?" Esther smirks, sitting down on the stool.

"I ask Kirstie to be my girlfriend. And she said yes." Avi says with a huge smile.

"Oh, Honey, that's great. I'm so happy for you." She smiles giving him a hug.

"I don't have a high school ring to give her so I made this." He says reaching into his pocket, pulling out something and dropping it in her hand.

Esther gasp, putting a hand over her mouth, as she looked at the most beautiful ring she had ever seen.

"Oh. My. God." She says as she looked closely at the ring. It was made out of wood with beautiful designs carved into it. "Avi, honey, this is absolutely gorgeous. How did you do this?" She asks in complete awe.

"It wasn't easy." He chuckles. "You think she'll like it?"

"Oh, there's no doubt in my mind." She says handing him back the ring. She places a hand on each side of his face.

"You never cease to amaze me, Avi. You are so gifted. Your talent is beyond belief and I am so, so proud of you." She says giving him a kiss on the forehead.
