Chapter Twelve♡

Noah's POV

Suddenly the doctor walks in, my breath hitches in my throat and I immediately stiffen.

"So Noah, the results came in. Your arm is mildly infected. What happened was, when the bottle broke, it let of some sort of chemical, which got into your arm and didn't react well with your blood. The good news is that no glass got in the actual wound, but a small portion of the chemicals did. Your arm will be fine. So don't worry about that. Just continue to put polysporin on it, and wrap it everyday. Here is a prescription for you, take them orally, twice a day, with food. If your arm isn't showing progress in the next week, come back in."

"So my arms fine then?" I ask

"Oh yes. It should start to heal within a few days. The chemicals released were not harmful, they just reacted weirdly with your blood type." He tells me.

"Okay. Well that's good then. Can I continue with my soccer?"

"You shouldn't be doing anything physical for the next week. As I said, if it doesn't show progress, come back in. But if it does start to heal as expected, then in a week, you may continue soccer, or anything else you are involved in."

"Okay, thank you." I say

"No problem." He replies, handing me a piece of paper.

Once he leaves I get off the white gurney they make you sit on, and face Jamie and her mom.

"So that's pretty good news then." Jamie says, smiling.

"Yeah, for sure. I really thought something awful was going to come out of this."

"Well, I'm just glad we came when we did, if you came any later, that infection would probably be much worse." Comments Jamie's mom.

"Yes. Thank you both so much, Jamie for being just amazing, letting me stay over, wrapping my arm, and caring for me, and Amy, thank you for coming and driving us here, for helping me, for everything, I'm really lucky!" I say smiling, and I mean it too, every word of it.

"Anytime sweetie." Says Jamie's mom while Jamie just stands there, blushing wildly.

"So are we gonna visit dad now?" Asks Jamie, breaking the silence.

"Yes, Noah are you sure you're up for this?"

"Absolutely." I tell Jamie's mom.

**************************************************************

Once we reach the third floor, where Jamie's dad is, we walk down a long corridor. Once we pass the large double doors, there is another hallway, this one shorter than the first, but just as many rooms.

About half way down the hallway is Jamie's dad's room.

We walk in and see Jamie's dad, laying on a bed, similar to the one I was on, about ten minutes ago.

He is hooked up to many tubes and machines.

He is in high spirits, but his face is all the proof you need to see he is not doing well.

He is very pale, almost ghost-like, but with a green tint to his skin.

His eyes are heavy, as if he hasn't slept in days.

His forehead is covered in little beads of sweat.

And his nose is as red as a cherry tomato.

I gasp a little, upon seeing him, but Jamie walks in as if this is what he has looked like his entire life. It doesn't even fase her anymore. And that's terrifying.

"Jamie!" He exclaims, excited.

"Dad!" She shouts, with just as much enthusiasm in her voice.

She gives him a hug, careful not too move the wires.

"How have you been?" He asks.

"How have you been? You're the one in the hospital!" She counters, amusement lacing her voice.

I can immediately tell what kind of relationship they have; joking, yet super close, they have that bond that they can tell eachother anything, that they are best friends. The type of relationship I've always envied.

"Ive been good Jamie, I've been real good," he tells her, he then notices me standing near the door, "ah, this must be Noah! I've heard so much about you young man, please, don't be shy." He says, waving me over.

I step closer to his bed, reaching out to shake his hand, "Hello mr. Winters. It is wonderful to finally meet you, Jamie speaks very highly of her family."

"She also speaks highly of you, Mr. Adams," he says amused, and then adding, "And please, call me David."

"Will do." I say.

"How's your arm there? Amy told me what had happened, feel free to stay at our house whenever, Jamie loves the company."

"Thank you sir, I appreciate it. And my arm is going to be alright, it is slightly infected, so the doctor has me on some antibiotics."

"Well that's good. I'm glad to hear that."

"Thank you." I tell him.

"Amy, Jamie, would you mind if I had a few words with young Noah here?" He asks, looking at them.

"Not at all, we'll be back soon." Says Amy, while Jamie gives me a subtle thumbs up.

I gulp nervously, turning back to David. He doesn't seem to notice as he starts talking.

"Noah, I understand that we haven't been able to meet properly under the circumstances," he says pointing around the room, I nod as he continues, "but meeting you now, I can see that you care deeply for my daughter. I can see the way you look at her that you truly like her. I have heard a lot of things about you, from her. She cares for you, a lot. And so far it seems you haven't givin her anything to not trust. I respect that Noah. But don't mess it up. Jamie has never had a boyfriend before, and I don't need her to get her heart broken, not now, or ever. You are a nice boy, I like you. Now please prove to me, and to her, that you deserve her." He tells me, in a more serious tone.

"Absolutely sir, I won't let either of you down. I want you to know that I really like Jamie, in fact, I love her. I have since the moment I saw her last year. I never thought she would like me back, because she is just so amazing, why would she? To be honest, I tried to go for other girls, but I couldn't, I couldn't let her go. And now that I have her, I won't. I promise you, and I promise her." I say, in total and honest truth.

He looks impressed. "Thank you Noah, for your honesty, and everything you've done for her so far, I know it doesn't seem like much to you, but she really appreciates it. We all do."

"Anytime." I say

Just then, Jamie and her mom walk in.

"Hope we're not interrupting anything, but we really should be getting you two home." Says Amy, pointing to Jamie and I.

"Alright, bye dad, I love you." Says Jamie, giving her dad a hug and a quick kiss on the head.

"I love you too, hunny."

"Bye David, get better, it was so nice to meet you." I tell him.

He laughs, "you get your arm better son. It was great to finally meet you as well, soon enough we will have more time to talk. Take care of her for me." He says, and motions to Jamie.

"I will."

"Ok, bye David. I'll be back soon. I love you." Says Amy.

"I love you too." He replies as we head out of the door.

************************************************************

"Jamie, sweetie, go inside. And we'll be right there. I've got to talk to Noah quickly." Says Amy, as we pull into the driveway.

"Okay!" She replies and heads inside.

Amy turns to face me, "Thank you Noah. For everything. You probably can't tell, but as a parent, I've seen a great change in Jamie since you've came along. She been happier, she smiles more. I really have you to thank for that. She really likes you Noah."

"I really like her too. I know David was a bit worried that since she's been so happy, that if we broke up, she'd be heartbroken, and I assure you, I have no plans to break up with her. I really really care about her. More than anyone knows. If things between us were to end, it would have to be because she broke up with me, because I'm definitely not ready to leave her, I really love her." I say.

Amy gushes, "that is really sweet Noah. I've seen the way you two are, and you definitely seem happy. I'm not worried. Just promise that you'll do everything you can to keep her happy, I know she's been pretty upset over everything that's happening with her dad."

"I know, and I really hope he gets better. I can tell your family is very close."

"We are," she smiles a bit, "Thank you Noah. You better get inside though, I'll see you soon."

"Thank you." I say, and hop out of the car, heading inside.
