6. Jealousy
"Everyone gather around!" The King announced to his people in the massive dining hall that they were in. Youngjae stood next to his father fidgeting at all the people putting their attention towards them. Youngjae never really liked the attention on him not unless it was Jaebum who was the one doing it. How ironic as one day he would have to rule the kingdom. 'If there still even is one' he thought. Youngjae absentmindedly pouted and felt someone tap him on his right shoulder. Youngjae turned and saw Jackson giving him a soft and encouraging smile. Youngjae smiled back at his best friend and felt more at ease. Jackson always made Youngjae feel better and Youngjae was thankful for that because he didn't know what he would do without him. Jackson just wanted the boy to always be happy because it's truly a sight to see Youngjae smile. Jackson wished for Youngjae to always have a smile on his face.
Mark was seated in one of the many circular stone like tables that was big enough for 20 people. Around him seated his father, Bambam, Yugyeom, his mother, and other people from the village he was familiar with. Mark looked around and admired the paintings on the wall, the border of them surrounded in gold. Mark roomed his eyes around the room until they landed on Jinyoung standing there in his bright shining amour Mark and his father helped built. I guess you could say Mark was looking like he had just seen the moon and back until Yugyeom hit him with a piece of bread breaking his trance. Mark turned angrily towards them but blushed as Bambam and Yugyeom were smirking at him and wiggling their eyebrows. Mark wondered how anyone could even do that. Maybe they were some other life form and just disguised themselves as humans because they knew Mark was a lonely kid and felt pity towards him. Maybe they were there to eat his despaired life. Maybe. As everyone sat down with quiet whispers they all turned their attention to their ruler.
"Everyone....I know there are some here who barely survived the attack....I know there are some who lost dear loved ones....I wish I could of stopped this from happening but sadly I cannot change the pass" the King started creating a saddening atmosphere that everyone wanted to forget. It brought tears to some as if they were reliving the event. It was truly heartbreaking.
"But....I won't let them win anymore! They've caused enough hurt and damage to our homes! To our hearts!" The King shouted trying to bring hope to his people. It was working as his people were starting to rise from their seats getting inspired to take back what was theirs. Mark felt himself cheering with the crowd the adrenaline kicking in. At the same time he was also very anxious about the future but decided to put that aside as people were hurting and in order to put an end to that suffering he had to help out any chance he had.
Jinyoung stepped up with a serious face and said "I'm here humbly asking you all for a favor. If we want to beat the enemy we must work together and gather an army. I'm not forcing anyone to commit to something they are not comfortable with but what we need right now are brave shining knights wanting to make a change. I also cannot guarantee your lives sadly but please consider helping out your country not for us but for your family."
Goosebumps were present on everyone's arms at Jinyoung's powerful speech but it was dead silent as no one spoke up to volunteer. Mark saw Jinyoung's face quickly fall into a disappointed look. With a big sigh Mark raised up his hand and shouted "I volunteer!". Mark's father and friends were quick to join in too. It was then a chain reaction where everyone started to join in. Jinyoung looked over at Mark and gave him a beaming smile thanking him.
"Please everyone rest up now as tomorrow we start preparing for war!" The King lastly announced before dismissing them. As everyone started leaving the dining area Mark wanted to stay to talk to Jinyoung for awhile. Mark told his father he'd be staying and when Yugyeom and Bambam heard this they started making a huge fuss making Mark's cheeks redden feeling embarrassed. They soon left leaving Mark to wait alone for Jinyoung.
Suddenly Mark felt an arm snake around his waist and when he turned to see who it was he was surprised to see his friend Taehyung who he hadn't seen in a very long time.
"Taehyung oh my god I haven't seen you in the longest time! How have you been?" Mark asked while hugging him tightly. As the friends were catching up, right across the room Jinyoung stared at the pairing with cold deadly eyes. Anyone could see by his clenched jaw that he was angry. Jackson saw this and got alarmed.
"Hey Jinyoung why do you have your sword out and look like you're ready to kill someone?" Jackson asked but realized he asked a stupid rhetorical question as Jinyoung was staring right at the answer.
"Because I am" Jinyoung answered back still not breaking his trance at the guy who was holding Mark by his waist. Jackson quickly grabbed his sword and replied with "Well maybe we can solve this in a more civil way."
Jinyoung averted his eyes towards Jackson and sighed grabbing his sword and placing it back in it's place. 'I don't have to use my sword to kill a man' Jinyoung thought in his head before walking over to Mark. Jackson just hoped his friend wouldn't do something he would later regret.
Mark was happily laughing along to what Taehyung said not knowing Jinyoung's presence which angered Jinyoung even more.
"Excuse. Me." Jinyoung spit angrily with a forced smile on his face. Mark noticed Jinyoung's expression and decided to introduce Jinyoung to his childhood friend.
"Hi Jinyoungie this is Taehyung my childhood friend and Tae this is-"
"Captain Park Jinyoung, leader of the Kings knights. Please refer to me as Captain Park Jinyoung and only that. Thank you" Jinyoung spoke confidently looking straight at Taehyung's eyes.
"Y-yes si-sir" Taehyung replied with a tremble.
Mark knew what Jinyoung was doing and he didn't like it.
"I think you forgot something."
"Captain Park Jinyoung! I'm sorry but I'll be going now Captain Park Jinyoung. Bye Markie." Taehyung then sped off like his life depended on it.
"I can't believe you just did that" Mark scoffed as he crossed his arms. Mark hadn't seen Taehyung ever since he moved with his grandparents and for Jinyoung to scare him away like that was uncalled for.
"I couldn't help myself. He was getting all over you!" Jinyoung tried defended himself. Jinyoung was too stubborn to see that he was overreacting.
"He's my friend Jinyoung. A friend I haven't seen in a very long time" Mark sighed. Jinyoung now saw the glint of sadness in his eyes and wished his jealous side didn't get the best of him. Jinyoung knew he had to make it up to him. Jinyoung grabbed Mark's arm and pulled him in for a hug.
"I'm really sorry Mark. I was just a little jealous" Jinyoung answered truthfully. Mark hugged Jinyoung back and chuckled into his shoulder as he replied with "A little?"
Although Jinyoung hadn't confirmed that the pair were together Mark already knew that he was his.
