Clara
I wake up groggy, surprised to find that I'm alone in Kia's room. I sit up and look around, wondering if Kia slept in here at all last night. I fell asleep before her, but her side of the bed looks untouched.
I get up and open the door, padding down to the toilet.
I feel very at home in Kia's house I think to myself, brushing my teeth and grimacing at my reflection in the mirror. I finish up and tug a hairbrush through my hair, feeling somewhat fresher and looking marginally better.
I step out onto the landing and hear Kia downstairs. I can't make out what she's saying, but it sounds like she's pestering her brother. She comes up the stairs muttering something, and rolling her eyes.
"It's a talent!" Calls Kit from downstairs and I smile as Saskia shakes her head at me.
"Boys." She murmurs and I laugh.
We go back into her room and get changed for the day. I pop my leotard on and wriggle into some soft leggings and a cropped pink jumper. Saskia fiddles with her own jumper, trying to fit her head through the arm hole and failing.
I laugh and come to her aid.
"So, is your brother ok?" I ask gently once her head has exited her jumper.
Kia nods happily.
"Yeah he's fine." She states, not elaborating any further and I nod, taking the cue to drop the subject.
"Are you ready for rehearsals today?" Kia asks and I nod apprehensively. I'm going to be bone tired by the end of today, but I'm looking forward to it.
"I'm excited, plus I think our costumes have come in so we'll be able to do a run through in costume!" I say, beaming at the thought of my shiny tutu waiting for me.
"Really? I didn't know that! I bet they're going to be beautiful. How's rehearsals going with James?" Kia asks, her eyes slyly meeting mine and I laugh.
James has the role of the nutcracker and while most girls think he's dreamy, I just find him plain boring.
"He's such a dud, honestly. A pretty face wasted with a cardboard personality. He's a great partner though, he just needs to get the lifts right or I'll kill him." I admit, cringing at the potential prospect of being dropped on stage.
Kia laughs and goes to respond when there's a light tap at her door.
She beams and pulls open the door. She laughs lightly and picks something up off the floor. She turns around with a tray adorned with a stack of pancakes and shiny red berries.
"Is that for us?" I ask, my tummy gently rumbling as I gaze hungrily at the pancakes.
Kia nods, her face utterly delighted.
"I sweet talked Kit into cooking for us. I can't cook to save my life, but he can. Have some, Clara, they're amazing." Kia says cheekily and I laugh, helping myself to two.
I drizzle on some syrup and help myself to a heap of fruit. The first bite is like heaven in my mouth.
"Oh my god." I garble and Kia nods, her cheeks stuffed.
"These are amazing, your brother is the sweetest." I admit, tucking into another bite.
I smile, adding another facet to the unknown entity which is Kia's brother. He's still such a mystery to me and I want more than anything to figure him out, for the pancake recipe if not anything else.
"I know right, when he gets a girlfriend she's going to be a lucky girl." Kia admits and I frown slightly.
"She sure is." I murmur.
