Chapter 15: Representative

– It's so cold.

Sitting on a wooden box, Himiko was outside her house leaning against the wall by the door. The night chill seeped into her body, despite coats, so hugged herself for warmth.

– Should I go home and wait for him…? – The girl thought about it, but refused immediately – No. I must be ready when Nakahiko arrives.

Nakahiko? Who is he?

To find out, we have to go back in history 3 years before this event…

The relationship between Ameno Hibiko and Okinaga Himiko continued to advance in those years: the girl resisted while the boy didn't give in.

At same time she discovered an interesting fact: the stones her mother gave, those blessed by the God of fortune, apparently did bring a "lucky magic".

First: using rhe colar during training, as picked up her wooden stick to practice, felt a strange energy run through her body to help her move like a trained teacher.

Second: also noticed a purple glow sometimes appeared on her wooden stick. In addition to this, on one occasion at home when was angry with her parents, by moving her wooden stick to expel her emotions, such brilliance finely cut a vase and shattered it.

That caught her attention, could it be that…?

– No, it can't be. I'm being superstitious.

And third, it was related to another topic in her life: the day Himiko was about to be kidnapped.

On that occasion she was in the rice field, taking care of the crops while her parents in the village discussed other matters. But she wasn't wearing her divine necklace; maybe that's why the bandits arrived so suddenly without her being able to do anything.

Her arms and legs ended up tied, mouth sealed, and with it they're able to get her on back with no problem. She tried to free herself and squirmed, but it was even impossible to even cry out for help as was the only one in the fields.

She was lost at the mercy of these men. If not for…

– Hey! What are you doing?!

– Who are you?

– Free that woman!

– Come and get her!

A man appeared in place, who realizing the situation, without hesitation ran to help her; she looked at him with surprise, while he took a great risk for a stranger. And after a "street fight" seemed to last forever, he got rid of all the bandits by himself.

Then, once he untied her, Himiko was able to meet his identity: Tarashi Nakahiko, who was there to buy a rice planting field.

It wasn't expressed at moment because of the frenzy and the situation, but… at that first moment they met, Himiko's heart beat differently than usual to tell her in front of her was her ideal type of partner, more or less the same Nakahiko felt.

From that moment, both fell in love in a great way.

Sometime after the incident, Nakahiko began visiting her regularly, which in turn led to meeting her parents; they readily accepted their friendship, especially 'cause of boy's act of heroism, but there was tension 'cause of inconspicuous love they showed each other.

Hime was a little confused, but tried to assimilate and accept it, although obviously was Nosukune who didn't agree and still wanted to match her daughter with Silla's prince. In fact, was thanks to him Ameno Hibiko continued to be welcomed into her home for her dates.

But, on one of the dates Himiko knowed the truth: the attempted kidnapping had been orchestrated by Ameno.

According him, his original plan was to take her to him palace and keep there until she agreed to marry him, but things got out of her control. Finding out such a truth left her devastated: although didn't love him, after knowing Ameno for so long she'd taken enough affection for the prince as a close friend, but… with that truth, not anymore.

Although he was disappointed to end up empty-handed, feeling his daughter cry on shoulder or lap until she fell asleep touched Nosukune's heart to make him wonder if he acted well, while Hime as a mother tried to comfort and encourage her, albeit without success.

Nakahiko was the only one who could make a change; due to family problems was absent for a while, but when found out what happened returned to visit his beloved every day.

Several important events occurred: distrust, insistence, personal discussions, reconciliation; but, a single act of love could appease Himiko's doubts and fears, this being a kiss. The first of the couple, stolen by Nakahiko, and the first of Himiko, which made her remember all love for him.

Although was grounded for a whole month at home for giving that kiss, she didn't care at all, but only had the name of her beloved in head; that was the beginning of a fun forbidden romance sustained for 2 years.

Months before this moment was when these young people had a plan: to escape from their homes, to get married and start new life. Though they didn't need it, it was an adventure they both found fun to go on; and with it, they both planned their escape well in advance.

In this way, the expected night arrived.

Himiko's most valuable belongings were wrapped in a sheet next to her, still sitting on the wooden crate waiting in the cold.

She'd chosen such a night because her parents were slow to return from town; maybe because of the cold, or sales had increased by 200%, but either way it was an ideal escape.

Heard footsteps in the dark; a distant memory hit her mind giving her infused fear, for which raised almost extinguished lamp to illuminate the place. Although she didn't have to illuminate anything, since the visitor already brought a light of greater fluorescence:

It was Nakahiko, mounted on a cow which also had wrapped things on its back. Recognizing him, Himiko became so excited forgot the cold; got up from the box, not even expecting the young man to come down completely from the saddle to hug him.

– Sweetie! – Himiko gave him many flirtatious kisses on face – You did come!

– Of course! I promised to be here, and here I'm.

They both gave each other a beautiful and romantic kiss on lips.

– Ready to go?

– Yes, but… – Himiko thought about decision again – Are you sure my parents don't find out?

– No problem! We'll only be out to get married, and your dad won't kill us.

– I know but…! – Himiko turned to the ground – I'm sure… if we talk to them, they won't object…

Nakahiko smiled and gently cupped her cheek.

– Do you want to cancel this? If that's what you want, I'll turn around and none of this happened.

Doubts suddenly appeared to make hesitate; but immediately Himiko shook head to shake all that off.

– No. L-Let's not cancel it, because… – intertwined her fingers with Nakahiko's hand – I'm determined. I want to marry you; because I love you.

– I know… I love you too.

They kissed again on lips, prolonged by their verbal declaration.

Then they got ready to leave, although girl took a little pause because wanted to, at least, leave a farewell note (something she hadn't thought of). Nothing formal; just a note written on a piece of paper and smudged from the speed with which it was written, which read: "I'm leaving home, don't worry, I'll send you another message in a few days. I love you very much."

So then she took her things, got on Nakahiko's mount, and hugging his waist they started walking to get away from the place.

Months passed; the wedding was really simple, but with the presence of their close friends and relatives to contemplate the moment (more than anything, relatives and close friends of Himiko; no one in Nakahiko's family had attended, which worried the woman).

They bought a piece of land, both built their house, and for quite some time lived in complete peace. But… in the year 195 AD another event occurred.

A couple of days ago Nakahiko had put up the door of home which, on a very cold morning, was used for first time by a man who knocked on it repeatedly.

– Lord Tarashi! I have an important message for you!

The man, a very light sleeper, woke up immediately; managed to recognize his voice, so he got up to answer the door. But a pair of slender hands, belonging to his beautiful wife Himiko, encircled his arm with little strength not to let go.

No~ – her half-open eyes said she was still asleep – Stay a little longer~

– I won't be late. I'll just answer the door.

Let them play~ It's nothing.

– Then I'll go tell them to leave, so let you sleep.

Yes, sweetie…

The woman yawned and fell asleep again, which allowed Nakahiko to get up, grab clothes to put on, and open the entrance to the house. Outside there was a group of soldiers mounted on horseback, and the one who seemed to be leader was standing in the doorway; the man's face screwed up in annoyance.

– It's you, what do you want?

– Your uncle passed away and left no offspring. You know, you're the closest relative to him--

– Can't be! He had to die right when I got married!

– What? Are you married, lord?

– … I shouldn't have said it… – the man rubbed his face with annoyance – I guess now I can't refuse it.

– You know what will happen if you reject it.

– I know. They would continue fucking… – he gave a long sigh – I must speak it with my wife.

– We'll wait for you here, lord.

Nakahiko closed the door and went back to bed, where Himiko slept; he sat on the edge to admire her for a moment.

The woman breathed long, letting out a snore at times; a barely visible string of slime ran from her mouth, hair was a mess, and took over all the sheets. Despite all that, Nakahiko was so crazy about her he… would do everything just for her. Took a shoulder to shake her awake, which was difficult since she was a heavy sleeper.

… Sweetie?

– Good morning, sweetie.

Morning? The sun has risen?

Shee could still be seen half asleep; yawned and her eyes didn't want to open, and just threw herself around Nakahiko's neck to hug him.

No matter! Come back to bed with me.

– I must talk to you.

– No, no~ – she shook her head coquettishly – Whenever we talk, it's out of bed. And it's so cold…

– This is important.

Later… – the girl began to fall asleep again – Then when… we've had breakfast…

Nakahiko knew waking her up again would be very difficult, so he just had to break the news to her; loud enough to wake her up completely.

I'll be the Japan's emperor.

– … What?

Himiko knew the truth.

Tarashi Nakahiko belonged to royal family; being more exact, nephew of the emperor of Japan. He'd died without leaving heirs, so messengers searched for him until they found the place where lived to give him the crown.

For this reason, they're transferred to palace and days later Nakahiko was crowned Emperor of Japan, changing his name to Emperor Chuai, while Himiko from one day to next became Empress Jingū, although was also called Jingū Kougou, or queen Himiko.

Athough was impossible to believe, it was a more pleasant truth to hear than Ameno's occasion. And more pleasant to assimilate:

Getting carried away by this extravagant new life, on many occasions Himiko was carried away by whims and desires arose, in addition to taking her parents to live in palace although technically it couldn't be done.

But in same way a life full of luxuries arrived, another one with problems accompanied him, being it was the one Nakahiko attended due to all the mismanagement his uncle did, especially with nations around him.

And because of that, all the intimate moments between Nakahiko and Himiko were greatly reduced until they practically disappeared.

On a cold autumn afternoon, Nakahiko had finished work and board meetings on time, so he had free time to use.

He climbed the stairs and went to Himiko's royal bedchamber; the woman, then 28 years old, was playing with jewelry as if they were dolls when saw him enter. She brushed them aside, and without hesitation ran to embrace her husband, despite large and excessive royal kimono.

– Sweetie! A lot of time has passed!

– I know. – Nakahiko kissed her forehead – I longed to have you in my arms again.

Himiko excitedly rubbed her head on the man's chest.

– My beautiful "empress Jingū".

– And that name?

– It only occurred to me in a dream. Nice, right?

– Little creative, but if it's yours, I like it!

Himiko was silent for a moment, until remembered she wanted to make a comment-complaint.

– You should take your… "job" more calmly; let those advisers do everything while you, the emperor, attend to your wife.

– How I would like to! But I can't.

– Why not?

– There are things only I can attend to, no matter how much I hate or exhaust myself even thinking about it.

Those last words caused a strange unease in Himiko, which couldn't hold back even to enjoy that hug.

– Don't you like your life as emperor?

– Why of this question?

– I want to know. The few times I see you, you express of being emperor, "hate it", "get tired", "annoyance". I've wondered ever since why you say that.

Nakahiko sighed silently.

– Let's just say royal life has never been my favorite. Always consider it exaggerated to live among luxuries and riches; that's why I left the palace, which was when we met.

– If you don't like it and you were outside the palace, why didn't they let you reject the position of emperor?

– In fact, I did could turn it down. But we'd have resorted to a long paperwork and possible threats to leave the throne to councilors. I prefer to avoid all that.

Himiko couldn't understand him, so pulled away to look him in eyes.

– Why did you accept to be emperor?

– Didn't I just tell you?

– That's not your only reason; I know you.

Nakahiko smiled.

– You caught me, but… Isn't it obvious? It's all for you.

– Huh? – Himiko didn't expect that answer – For me?

– You're the woman I love and will always love. That's enough for me to look for the best for you, and… You have Japan in your hands!

Nakahiko moved closer to kiss Himiko's lips, which she returned, still surprised. Inside began approached feeling emotion to hear that statement but…

Huilt began to enter her emotions; using her hands she separated from Nakahiko abruptly.

– But, sweetie. That means you're not happy. You reject your happiness, your life, just for me.

– Honey, I'm not interested in my happiness. – he approached again and took her wife's cheek with palm – I'm only interested in yours; my only reason for happiness and pride is knowing you are well.

Again the woman felt pleasant, dropping her cheek into the palm of husband. But… Guilt echoed in her head again, for which she repeatedly denied.

– No. Tomorrow we'll return to our country house.

– What do you say?

Himiko separated from husband, getting a little upset.

– I won't live with this; I can't be happy at your expense. Before we're happy, you and me, and that's… what…

For a moment, Himiko felt bad for trying to express "I want"; Nakahiko walked up to her.

– This is what I want for you; Don't tell me not to think of you!

– But I don't--!

Knocks on the door interrupted the moment; Nakahiko managed to let out an annoyed sigh as she rubbed her eyes.

– What's happening? – he asked aloud.

– Your Majesty, the ambassadors of the 3 Kingdoms have just arrived.

He snorted before turning around, appearing (as he had said recently) annoyed to attend to such a matter.

– We'll talk about this later, okay?

Himiko nodded with a shake of head. As soon as Nakahiko was out the door and the room, the woman ended up breaking into soft, whispery tears, putting her hands to her mouth.

« Why…? My father was never proud of me even though I trained the sword for him, and now I'm making my husband upset just by living in this place… Why can't I do anything well…? »

205 AD

From balcony in her bedchamber, Himiko silently watched a group of student swordsmen who would be soldiers for the palace. This by order of Nakahiko, for some possible future problems with foreign relations; more time for Himiko to continue alone.

In those moments, a wave of memories hit her head and made her smile.

« What a time those… I haven't picked up a sword in years. »

– Your Majesty, your midday tea.

– Certain! Thank you very much, Homutawake.

Homutawake, a young boy assigned as a servant of the palace, with a special assignment to attend to the needs of queen Himiko.

After a tragic story took away his family, months ago he had to sell himself as slave to support himself, and after going through several masters he reached the royal palace, being Nakahiko himself assigned him to take care of Himiko, and having known each other for all that time, both ended up strengthening a close friendship.

Himiko walked across the room to take a seat on the center sofa and drink her tea.

– Well, what happened with that girl?

Homutawake looked around, making sure no one else was there, then sat on another sofa in the living room.

– It went very well, Your Majesty! At first I thought she didn't like me, but yesterday he told me the opposite!

– Great! And did you use my advice?

– Of course. They helped me a lot.

– Then I can keep part of the credit – Himiko snorted with playful arrogance – What will be your next step?

– I wanted to invite her to dinner, but… your husband ordered me I must take care of you at all time.

– Don't worry about me. You can go with her; more if she is the one.

Homutawake drew a doubtful expression which Himiko quickly calmed down.

– I'll be fine.

– O-Okay, Your Majesty. Thank you very much; you really are a wonderful person.

– No – Himiko smiled shyly – It's not a big deal.

– But you're! You've helped me and even cared for me when I should be the one to take care of you. You're a magnificent woman.

– T-Thank you… – that caused Himiko to blush.

Then Homutawake stood up nervously.

– I-If it's not a bother, I… I would like to be able to invite her to dinner tonight, thinking before something unforeseen happens… so, can I--?

– That's good! – Himiko smiled, and raised her hand – Don't ask me for permission. You can go.

Homutawake nodded and turned to leave; but at that moment Himiko remembered something important.

– No, wait a second!

– Huh!?

– Before you go… I want to ask you for help with something.

– What thing?

– About it…

Himiko got up and walked to balcony, to point to group of samurai in the courtyard; Homutawake followed her to see what she wanted.

– The swordsmen?

– Yes. I would like… to continue learning how to use the sword. As you know, since I got married I haven't had the time or inspiration to take it up again, but now… I want to do it again.

– Has your interest returned? Any motivation? – Homutawake realized the questions he asked – I-I mean…! Just curious!

– Only… – Himiko put a hand to chin – Maybe it would be good to use it for occasions like your date tonight.

– Excuse me, Your Majesty! – the boy bowed apologetically – In that case, I'll withdraw my plans and I'll stay--!

– No way! That's not exactly what I mean; but… You won't always be with me, and I may need it at an important moment. Thats what I mean to say.

– O-Okey…!

– Also…

Himiko's head conceived one of her typical thoughts.

« My husband is disgusted to live as an emperor; I don't know if it works, but… Maybe, if I'm a perfect swordsman, I can make him forget about his dislikes… I want to make him happy! »

– Also?

– Nothing. It's nothing… So, can you help me?

– I-I… maybe I can but… – pointed to the trainers – If you want help to train, shouldn't you go with them?

» I-I mean…! It's not like I want to be out of your business! I mean they're more capable than me--!

Himiko chuckled a little.

– Don't worry. I don't mean help in that, but in other matters.

» Forge or buy a new sword, or take the one my father ordered he had in his youth; hire my old teacher; prepare everything I'll need. That help I mean.

– I understand, Your Majesty! By the way… Do you want to inform her husband?

– No – denied the woman immediately – If he finds out, may forbid me to do it.

– Why he would do that?

– You've seen; he's a bit overprotective, especially when it's about me. He would say something like "a sweetie like you doesn't need that", and right now I want to avoid arguing with him.

» He already has too much on his mind without his pretty wife causing him trouble too ♡

Homutawake fell silent at that.

– You're wonderful!

Himiko blushed again in response.

– So…

– Of course I'll help you, Your Majesty! – Homutawake affirmed with a hand on his chest – I'll do everything you ask me!

And without avoiding it, Himiko hugged the boy tightly.

– Thank you Homutawake! I knew I could count on you… Shall we start at once?

– So soon, Your Majesty?

– The sooner the better!

Himiko and Homutawake listed horses, and soon after left the palace, under the guise of a ride, all in order to find the items she would need.

The sword was easy as convincing the master, except for the few blows she received to head from her sudden disappearance. But, before the night was over, she had everything in her hands.

With everything back resumed her career with as much effort as she could to complete that goal… which took her 4 years.

Thereafter; of the destroyed sheets and beds, sliced armchairs and cupboards, smashed vases; after increasing hours of training, practicing techniques hadn't yet been taught to her, using her magic stones again to have help…

After all that for 4 years, the day of "onna bugeisha" Himiko's final test came; one afternoon when Nakahiko was away on a meeting abroad.

Himiko standing in her personal garden, with the sword was given for her birthday a long time ago, breathing calmly looking at the water ran in the fountain a few feet from her. The teacher was there to see the test, and Homutawake made sure there wasn't too much collateral damage.

The woman took a deep breath, to calm her emotions and achieve the perfect movement; her gray eyes fixed on the water, and giving all strength in her arms, she directed a purple-shimmering slash at the liquid.

She allowed the impossible to happen: after how wanted it, was able to divide the water passage into 2 branches to let the sword pass through the middle; and as collateral damage, the cobblestone fountain was also split in half, letting the water contained in the water fall from breaking on the ground. Himiko let out a cry of involuntary fright, as Homutawake and teacher came to her aid.

– Your Majesty! Watch out!

– Okinaga!

Himiko backed away somewhat in surprise, giving way to a better vantage point to look at what did. She could only say it in stutters.

– I did it… I-I cut off the water.

The silence lingered for a moment, so Himiko spoke in a louder voice.

– Cut off the water! I-I did…!

– Of course, Okinaga! You've achieved something… unthinkable!

– Congratulations Majesty! – Homutawake smiled next to Himiko.

With great enthusiasm the woman hugged Homutawake, and then went on to hug her teacher, leaving him somewhat surprised.

– You said I could hug you if I passed my final test.

– You're right, Okinaga. You've passed it.

She broke away from them and held her sword tightly.

– Now, I can show this to my husband; he'll be pleased to see what I do! And you won't have to wait long!

– You're right, Your Majesty – Homutawake affirmed confidently – The messengers reported the embassy would arrive today, within a few hours perhaps.

– I'll be able to receive it with a beautiful gift!

The 3 of them left the garden, although… The least enthusiastic was teacher. Not because he wasn't pleased with his student, but 'cause he wasn't pleased with the woman's main motivations…

The day continued to pass until the sky began to turn red at dusk; the 3 were outside the palace, next to the door through which the embassy would enter. Homutawake and the teacher sat on the steps of the palace, but Himiko stood with her sheathed sword in hand with great patience.

A few minutes later Homutawake approached Himiko.

– Your Majesty, are you sure you don't want to sit down?

– Very sure. I waited for him like this the day we got married; I can do it again.

– … As you decide, Your Majesty.

Minutes ticked by, turning into almost hours when there would be no sign of anything, until… finally.

The huge palace gates swung open; Himiko blushed with excitement and ran to the entrance; so quickly that behind her, Homutawake and the teacher barely had time to get up.

They tried to yell at her to wait for them, but Himiko heard nothing. She only had one thing on mind: to see her beloved Nakahiko again, even more so as saw shadows appear behind the ever-widening opening of the doors.

– Sweetie! I missed you a lot--!

– Make way!

But the scene was different from what she imagined: as soon as the gates were opened, several servants of the kingdom rushed in with stretchers and medical officers, bringing some wounded men.

The woman took a step forward instinctively, but was confused; more to see that several stretchers, nurses and doctors entered without control.

– Huh?

The final group arrived, a bunch of lesser-wounded stragglers dressed in the most luxurious attire of the others; Himiko and Homutawake (who had already arrived) knowed they were the king's advisers.

– Sirs? – Homutawake approached to find out – What does all this fuss mean?

– Bad news! The embassy was attacked!

– What!? What are you talking about!?

The woman approached the group to listen.

– A group of pirates attacked us while we're returning on the boats; from the flags they brought, we assume they're insurgents who oppose the king we visited, from Silla kingdom. We barely made it out alive.

– Nobody knew we were on that route…! – Shouted one of the advisors, very euphoric about it – Only that king and his advisors! They sent the attack!

– We can't jump to such hasty conclusions, besides, it's a serious accusation would lead to a war!

Himiko's mind was starting to get dizzy with all the information coming in; An attack? King of Silla? Accusations? War?

Among the mental jumble was forming in her, could only ask one question was the only one she wanted an answer to.

– What… happened to him… Where is my husband…?

Everyone was silent for a few moments, until one of them gave the terrible news directly.

Your Majesty, Emperor Chuai is dead.

She was shocked, dropping the sword at feet and beginning to lose strength. Her eyes began to water softly.

– No… It can't be… It's… a lie…

– Yes, Your Majesty. Our emperor is dead. The attack was frantic, but it was more towards the ship where Your Majesty was; and as soon as it was destroyed, the pirates retreated.

– That's why I know it was a direct attack from the king of Silla; only he and his council saw Your Majesty's ship! He has declared war against Japan!

The screams, exclamations and accusations continued, but Himiko was only present in body. Her ears clouded, eyes watered, and fell to her knees expressing how little she could.

– No… Nakahiko, my sweetie… NOOOO!!

– Your Majesty, can I come in?

Without waiting for an answerz Homutawake entered the royal bedchamber. Bringing the midday tea, he set it down on the coffee table in the living room and removed the food was voted there.

Then went to the bed where Himiko was sleeping: wrapped in nightclothes and interwoven with blankets. Homutawake sat down on one side, then gently used the woman's shoulder to move.

– Your Majesty, wake up. It's already noon.

After several tries, Himiko yawned; she opened eyes, taking on a blurry image as wiped them, and she could see Homutawake present. That gave her a motherly smile.

– Homutawake… Good morning… – with a sleepy voice, turned in bed and found the other half was empty; so she turned to Homutawake – Where is my husband?

Homutawake looked down silently.

– I don't remember him coming back last night. I wish he had gotten lost in a bar with the counselors, but I think he got lost in meetings… Have you seen him?

– Majesty. It has already been 2 months since Emperor Chuai passed away.

The woman fell silent, turning her gaze to the empty side of the bed. Before the boy could say anything, her tears ran quickly down cheeks destroying the little sleep she felt.

– No… It's not a dream… No, no! – took the pillow she had and buried her head in it, to release her whimpering and disconsolate cries. – Please, I want to wake up from this damn nightmare! Somebody wake me up!

– Your Majesty…

Himiko stood still as held the pillow to her face, crying, screaming and sometimes kicking. At all times Homutawake, who was very used to seeing her like this, stroked her hair gently to try to calm her down.

After a while when had calmed down a bit, the boy gave his message.

– Your Majesty, your parents came to visit again.

The woman didn't answer and the boy didn't wait for an answer; left the empress there to open the bedchamber door and let Hime and Nosukune in. Both already quite advanced in years, they went to Himiko's bed.

– Thank you very much, Homutawake – Hime smiled at him.

– If you'll excuse us, boy, we want to talk to our daughter alone.

– Yes sirs.

This wasn't the first visit they paid her; everyday someone from palace visited her to try to cheer up. Whether it was her parents, Homutawake, her teacher, the counselors, etc. And although they all fail, they persisted.

Homutawake quietly withdrew and Hime sat down next to daughter to stroke her mane; with each visit, it broke her heart more to see her in such a state.

– My little girl…

– Daughter… – Nosukune spoke slowly – I don't want to sound heavy, but… You must get over this.

Himiko, hearing them, looked up at both of them and, with her eyes swollen and red, reached out to cling to her mother like when was a child.

– M-Mommy… I want to wake up…

– How I wish it was a bad dream, but… It's not.

Himiko gritted her teeth as she shook her head; Nosukune approached both of them cautiously.

– Daughter, it hurts me to see you like this, and I know it's worse for you. But, you must get up and get through this. It's the duty you must fulfill--

– Nosukune! – Hime scolded him immediately – This isn't the time to discuss that--

– D-Daddy…

Nosukune was surprised at this, being the first time she said that nickname to him; Himiko looked up at him.

– How do you want me to get over it? Nakahiko… He was everything to me. The love of my life… How am I going to let him go?

» Even more… He told me he hated this life as an emperor; it annoyed him, tired him, and… this life killed him… I wasn't even by his side at that time! He loved me enough to bear this for me, and I was away from him in his last breath…

– Daughter…

Little by little, such sadness in Himiko gave way to frustration and anger.

– For a little bit… I spent years of my sword just to make him smile but… I didn't want it… – she threw the pillow had in hands – It was never my dream to be a swordsman! I wanted to make him proud, and he didn't even know it!

Himiko now took the pillow was Nakahiko's to cry on it.

– I don't want and I'm not going to get over it! I don't want to let it go!

They both fell silent; however, Nosukune discreetly had something else to say.

– Daughter, we're not in a… very good situation. There is war against another country and all… our nation depends on you…

Himiko grunted angrily and took another small pillow which threw at her father.

– I don't care! I do not want it! – With negative shakes of head, a purple aura came out of her – I don't want this life! This palace, these jewels, this entire empire…! I dont want it!

Her parents were quite scared, but she continued in euphoria.

– I'd rather go to hell than be in this damn palace! I don't want it! I don't want any of this…

She went on in a very upset manner, throwing everything had within reach of her and even ripping up her bed and smashing vases. After a while, her tiredness from not eating anything in days calmed her down; got up and hugged Nakahiko's pillow was still with her.

– My Nakahiko was here just for me. Without him, it doesn't make sense anymore… What's the use of staying here…?

Took the necklace of stones, present on her night table, to look at them carefully; that elicited a slight sarcastic laugh from him.

« God of fortune… Why? Why did so much fortune have to cost the life of my beloved? Please… If you want to charge more for this luck, let it be my life… I don't want it anymore-- »

Suddenly the door opened and a messenger entered through it, with a very tired appearance caught the attention of those present; Homutawake was running after to stop him.

– Hey! You can't be there!

– Your Majesty! – The messenger brought a roll of paper – Your Majesty! An urgent message from the army!

– Do those silly servants not understand what privacy is? – Nosukune got up towards the messenger, while Homutawake took and dragged him out of the bedroom.

– You can't be here!

– But it's urgent! I must tell queen Himiko--!

– Don't say that name! – Nosukune exclaimed furiously – I chose it, and only I decide who uses it!

Dragged by the combined forces of Homutawake and Nosukune, he was left to read the report as best he could.

– "Casualties are high, the army is decimated. It's reported King Ameno has invaded--"!

– Stop!

Himiko's shout startled everyone, including the messenger, who stopped in their tracks; she raised head to the man.

– What did you say?

– Which thing?

– Homutawake, father; release that man! You, give me all your message!

Everyone was very confused; it was the first time in 2 months Himiko showed any emotion other than sadness and loneliness.

And, without waiting a second, they obeyed Himiko's orders: the messenger stood up completely and clearing his voice, started reading from the beginning again.

– "Casualties are high, the army is decimated. It's reported King Ameno has invaded much of Japan. Many cities were consumed under his army, and it's estimated his forces will reach royal palace in the next few days. Inform queen Himiko immediately to carry out the evacuation of the capital."…

» This message was written 2 days ago, so Silla's army could arrive as early as tomorrow.

They had all quietly paid attention; but Himiko, only had 2 words in mind will renew from side to side forcing her to speak.

– What was… the name you said?

Himiko's tone was very threatening; therefore, with a fright the messenger released all the information he knew.

– T-The name is Ameno Hibiko, current king of Silla. I think he was crowned at same time as our Emperor Chuai and… There were differences in thought and diplomacy between the two caused friction in the country for 14 years…

Himiko's parents were surprised to hear that name, but they played a trick on with their age and memories now failing. On the other hand, Himiko hadn't that problem.

She immediately got out of bed, for the first time in 2 months, which greatly scared Homutawake.

– Y-Your Majesty?

– Everyone out of my room.

Himiko's words, which drastically changed to a cold and authoritative tone, startled everyone; and for that reason all without hesitation obeyed her and left her alone.

For a moment Himiko stood silently looking at the window opened onto the balcony. Especially thinking about one thing: her parents may have forgotten that name, but Himiko's mind and consciousness would never do it.

A helplessness welled up inside her as she whispered.

– Ameno… First you wanted to marry me even if you had to kidnap me and now… Kill the love of life… and destroy my country…

She remembered everything had experienced with Ameno, especially what was related to the attempted kidnapping, which caused her to sobs of sadness and anger; but, thinking Ameno was responsible for the death of her husband made very angry: her eyes narrowed and became thirsty for… revenge.

– Ameno Hibiko… I won't forgive you!

She went to dressing room and in a heartbeat left the mourning clothes for a light and informal kimono; returned to bed to take the divine stone necklace she hung around neck, searched through all mess she made in room until found her sheathed sword, and left the room.

Outside, everyone was waiting for her; and they looked at her in surprise when saw such a rapid and drastic physical and emotional change in her.

– Your Majesty?

– Homutawake, send my parents to a safe place immediately.

– Daughter? What's happening?

– He'll take care of you, don't worry – addressed her parents with a smile, without losing confidence – Homutawake, take them now.

– Immediately!

Then addressed the messenger.

– Call and gather the army captains to gather all the soldiers we have in the palace. It's a direct order from queen Himiko.

The messenger nodded and immediately ran off, while Himiko headed for her weapons room; in fact, it was the armory belonged to emperors of Japan and, therefore, also to Nakahiko.

She knew where it was so got there very quickly; after entered, searched through the stores until found the one she wanted. A closet from which hung a reddish samurai-style armor, which was intended for Emperor Chuai.

She wanted to admire it for longer time, but immediately lowered it and as she could dressed it from head to toe. It was a bit heavy, but that physical sensation was overwhelmed by a new wave of emotional pain.

– I'm not going to let you go, sweetie… – whispered to herself, squeezing a hand – On the contrary, I hope you'll come with me in this armor.

After wiping away her tears, left the room to meet the army captains, who were already in the courtyard of the palace. She organized everything very quickly, and with this group began military advance against Silla army.

212 AD

Queen Himiko's military campaign was a real success.

In the first place, was able to stop the advance of the army was going tk the capital; Himiko and her army were victorious with no casualties, and from then on the Japanese knew of her swordsmanship and divine blessing.

But there began her revenge; she sent letters to all the provinces and cities of the empire to gather a large army, so she would now be the one to invade Silla as payment with the same coin.

They reached the coastal region of Silla, called Mimana, and in a fit of military campaign Himiko was able to conquer that land and advance, with great ferocity in intense and bloody warfare. Everything until reaching her main objective…

Himiko was fighting some guards from a garrison; despite the efforts of those men, the woman's violence coupled with her purple glow was able to kill them both with clean cuts. Once finished, ran to the garrison and slammed both doors open.

Inside it were several advisors, some soldiers, and behind all of them the one she wanted to find: Ameno Hibiko, now dressed as a king, helped by advisors to escape. As soon as they saw Himiko, they all became extremely terrified.

The soldiers rushed at Himiko immediately as Ameno and advisors fled, but all the warriors were violently sliced by the onna bugeisha's sword; they were just cannon fodder to give Hibiko time to escape.

Once finished, she ran off to follow the men until intercepted them; she kicked the counselor who was accompanying Ameno to fly, besides made him fall to the ground on back.

Ameno was very scared, which noticed in his babbling.

– Y-You are… a very formidable warrior from Japan, a-as I can see…! When do they pay you? I-I can triple your fortune!

– Do you… don't you remember me anymore… "Lord Ameno"?

Ameno was quite confused but, seeing through the armor and blood bathed her, was able to recognize her face and her voice.

– D-Dear Himo! Are you!

– You… You…!

The man began to crawl back as noticed the woman's anger.

– Dear Himo! So… you weren't kidding when you told me you were a swordsman… And you're also a soldier of the empire!

– Don't you understand, idiot!? I'm the one who did all this…! I'm the one who's destroying your country!

Ameno had to think twice to understand.

– Y-You are queen Himiko…! W-Well, what wasn't… obvious…?

Sword in hand, Himiko began to follow Ameno.

– Why…? Why you did it?

– W-What are you talking about, dear Himo?

– For 14 years, you caused trouble and silly arguments for Emperor Chuai, my husband! And because of you… He's no longer here…!

More and more Ameno was scared than before. In Himiko, all the emotions of her combining gave rise to a new river of tears was clearly expressed.

– I don't know if it was insurgents or you did it, but… Someone took my husband's life before I could see him again! Besides that… You started destroying my land, why you did all this! Why dammit!?

– I'm sorry, sear Himo! – Ameno began to apologize with difficulty – Those discussions with your husband were… land divisions; You know… I never liked small lands, right?… I hoped keeping it for a long time would make him give in, but… your husband was persistent…

» But I had nothing to do with his death! I never wanted to kill him! It was the fault of those insurgents! For a long time, there were people at my advisory table who wanted war with your nation… But a few days ago I executed them! I swear!

Still, that wasn't going to calm Himiko down so easily; she raised the katana, with trembling in hands, and pointed at Ameno who was beginning to feel helpless.

– Please, dear Himo! I swear it wasn't me! Do not kill me!

– Why…!?

Ameno closed m eyes and covered himself with arms. But… nothing else happened.

He heard the sound of metal hitting the ground and a heavy object falling, causing him to open eyes immediately. And saw what didn't expect:

Himiko on her knees, crying in despair and with head bowed; her sword lying on the ground, and with more hands touching the ground for support. Ameno looked at her quite surprised.

– Why… did you do that to him?… He never wanted to be emperor and 'cause… 'cause of your nonsense, they killed him… – she lowered head with eyes closed – I loved him and I never… I could never show it to him as I wanted… Why? Why…?

Ameno got up as best he could and, bowing slowly and respectfully, touched the ground with his forehead. Touched, and especially embarrassed.

– I'm sorry dear Himo… I didn't know anything about that.

That day was the conclusion of the war between Silla and Japan.

Mimana was annexed as additional territory of Japan, and Ameno became a vassal of queen Himiko for his entire reign. This blew in the wind to the kingdoms around, for which not a single one dared to attack her in all the years she held the throne, besides… apparently, her divine stone necklace also helped her to keep everything in order.

The most significant change was her own name: from then on, all her signatures, declarations, and orders were made with the nickname Nakahiko had given her: Jingū Kougou, Empress Jingū.

Jingū never wanted to get married again and she never had children with Nakahiko, so… who was going to succeed her on the throne? One person: Homutawake. She saw in that boy, whom had cared for almost his entire life, as her own son, so decided to adopt him despite what all her advisers thought.

In 269 AD, at the age of 100, Jingū Kougou passed away. By her order, was buried on the land belonged to the house she had bought with Nakahiko, in Nara land.

Chroniclers in Japan often altered Jingū's history thanks to Homutawake's love for her, who changed his name to "Emperor Oujin", and went on to become a divine heroine with legends so fantastic that…

Current historians discarded it, and went on to make their story a mythical legend never existed…

– I'm just a country girl.

With both hands separated from face she saw herself; Sobek sat patiently waiting for the woman to give a speech, as did the stands. In a blink she could see life pass from her caused another discomfort inside.

– I shouldn't be here. I'm just… I'm just a girl who made mistakes and got… a little lucky…

– What do you mean, Your Majesty? – Sobek asked calmly.

Jingū reached into clothing and found, miraculously intact, the divine stone necklace; gave them a low look and a mocking laugh came out of her.

– I never… I was never born into royalty. I accidentally married the heir to throne, and a few months later I became his empress consort… I'm a sham queen from there! – Tears clouded her eyes again.

» Being a queen, what did I do?… I allowed my childish whims to control me. Enjoy the pleasures of royalty while… my husband was the one who carried out her responsibilities… and so he… – A new wave of emotional pain overwhelmed all her physical pain. – He was murdered…

» He died fulfilling a duty he didn't want while I… I just wanted to make him happy, not caring about anything else. When I lost him… I let my country be invaded and destroyed when all they needed me the most and… Then I dedicated myself to taking down another nation just for revenge…

» My hands are covered in blood. I could have avoided all this if… if only, from the beginning, I had done the right thing and not what I wanted… it was a complete failure… – shook her head in denial.

» I don't want to live with this! I shouldn't be here: I should never have been called to represent humanity!

At all time Sobek was silent to pay attention to her; somehow that bothered Jingū.

– Just look at me! – lifted her tearful gaze and with outstretched hand pointed to herself – I'm just… I'm just a crying woman! What is someone as… foolish and frail as me doing in this place!? Aren't there people more worthy than me!?

Hearing that from her lips caused to regret in the human stands.

– The old fighters… They were representatives worthy of admiration! – her eyes sparkled with hope at the mention of them.

» Lu Bu Housen, who opened the heavens by being the first to face a God. Adam, our father who showed us that we can win…

» My teacher Sasaki Kojiro, who taught me the great glory of our first victory! And all the others who fought a thousand years ago; Jack, Hercules, Raiden, Qin Shi, Souji, Rasputin, Tesla, Simo, Nostradamus, Buddha, Sakata, Leonidas, and the young Valkyries…

» Even Achilles, who opened this second Ragnarok for more warriors to enter in the name of humanity! I'm sure they all fought and will fight for us! But I…

Under her countenance, letting her hand fall into the water that was holding her stones.

– I don't even know why I want to win. I guess…I don't want to be killed in front of so many people… Maybe I just wanted… their approval…

» The only good thing I could do was… adopt my son, and use these things gave me everything… Should someone like that be here, in the name of humanity, or still called "empress"? I don't think so…

She ripped the necklace from her neck and tossed it into the water, then covered her face with hands again.

– I don't deserve this.

Everyone in stands just fell silent; Geir brought both hands to her mouth. On the human side, everyone who was there for Jingū was moved and grieved.

– M-Mom… – Oujin also cried.

Around him were more people: the teacher of her dojo with the students; the counselors of the royal palace. Her parents Hime and Nosukune cried together as they hugged each other, and Ameno Hibiko looked down in great embarrassment.

Next to Sasaki Kojiro who looked at her with great discomfort, Nakahiko was present, crying with both hands on her mouth.

– Himiko… sweetie…

Inside the stadium, Mist, Simo, and Jeanne, along with Hlökk who stayed with them, stared at the screen in great silence; for her part, Cleopatra sitting on a throne like a large sofa, let out a light laugh as she ate from a plate of pomegranates next to her.

– I knew I should have gone.

Of those present, the only one who didn't share those empathetic feelings was Sobek.

The crocodile hit the ground hard with both hands and tail to get up; took his trident to unearth it in a single movement, and addressed the woman.

– Stand up, Your Majesty.

Her feelings were so rock bottom Jingū didn't even want to look up.

– No, I can't--

– It wasn't a suggestion.

Sobek gave such words with a truly terrifying growl, so much so it made Jingū jump a little; she looked up a little, could see in the crocodile's purple eyes a look worse than Poseidon's.

– It was an ORDER. Stand up, NOW.
