43 | updated bookshelf tour
It's been almost a year since I made my first bookshelf tour, and since then, I've bought a LOT more books, so I decided to make a new one for all of my book-hoarding pals who may want to see what I've been reading lately.
I decided to remove all of the books I wanted to get rid of from my shelves and stacked them on top. Even just getting rid of the 11 Cassandra Clare (Casserole Clam) books I have freed up two and a half whole squares, which was so satisfying. I had way too many books shoved in that shelf in my nightstand, so I moved all of the ones I've already read into my main bookshelf, leaving only the ones I haven't.
During my last tour, I had 117 books. I now have 147 counting the books I want to get rid of, but 87 without counting those (which just SHOWS how many I need to remove from my possession).
Most of the books I've bought in the past year have been from Thriftbooks, which is an excellent site to buy books super cheap. I got a bunch of classics for like $2-$4 each and they're in good condition. I did get a few Barnes & Noble gift cards for the holidays, so I'm sure I'll buy some more eventually... probably the third Dreamer Trilogy book from Maggie Stiefvater or other continuations of series I'm into.
Without further ado, here is the tour.
NIGHTSTAND
The books stacked in front in the first pic are ones I keep on the surface of my nightstand, but I moved them down there for the photo. They're my current reads, and, if you check my last tour, you'll see that yes, I am still reading The Diviners. I like the writing but there's just so much filler stuff. That was my problem with Libba Bray's A Great and Terrible Beauty which I tried to read at 15 but couldn't stand for that reason. I feel like I should be halfway through the book but I'm at 27% :) help :)
I'm also reading A Court of Silver Flames and I'm shocked it's taken me this long to get through a SJM book. I don't think that's ever happened, even with the Throne of Glass series, which is 7 books long. It's just harder for me to tackle longer books now because I'm so busy, so they seem more daunting and there's a mental block :/
Zayn's book has been on my nightstand since I got it, it's kinda a piece of decor now.
My friend read the Renegades series and told me it's amazing, so she's letting me borrow the first book until I finish it and can borrow the rest of the series.
The books on the side are the same paperbacks from high school. I need to give some of them back to my aunt because they're hers, but she's letting me keep the ones I want (Lord of the Flies and To Kill a Mockingbird). The Secret History is a new one though, it just won't fit vertically.
I believe I mentioned this before, but I'm trying to read more classics and become ✨cultured✨ so I got some Jane Austen books and a few other classic novels. I've already read P&P and Emma. I will admit that they're kinda difficult to get through because the language is different and there are so many characters to remember, but it's still easier to read them when you're not being forced to do it for school.
THE BOOKSHELF — BLOCK #1
This is gonna suck when I read Sense & Sensibility and have to put it with my other Jane Austen books, because then the whole THG trilogy won't fit in the same square and that bothers me SO much. Maybe when I finally get Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo, I'll be able to move the entire trilogy to the next square. Also I forgot that I wanted to get rid of The One so I'll have to take that one out.
I finally got the first Hunger Games book from Thriftbooks (I actually got it for free because I earned a free book from how much I shop there LMAO) and am re-reading the trilogy after a whopping 10 years. I'm probably going to start Catching Fire today or tomorrow. Finnick, my love, I'm on my way.
BLOCK #2
There's not anything new here, but for reference, everything from the TATBILB books and on was in block #4 before I removed Casserole's books, so that's how much space it freed up. Also, now that I'm looking at The Outsiders again, I think it's time to read it for the fourth time... it's a quick read (every time I've read it, it's been in a single day) so I'll be able to do it without interrupting much of my schedule.
BLOCK #3
I'M SO ANGRY BECAUSE I FORGOT TO REMOVE MARIE LU'S BOOKS TOO. THAT MEANS I PROBABLY COULD HAVE FIT THE ACOTAR BOOKS ON ONE SHELF UGH I HATE MYSELF. I should just redo this tour at this point, but I've already gotten this far, so I'm not going to do that.
Anyways, it felt so good putting the AGGGTM trilogy on my shelf! I love those books so much and already want to re-read them even though it hasn't even been a year. Pippa Fitz-Amobi and Ravi Singh my beloveds...
BLOCK #4
Behold, the whole Lunar Chronicles series fits in one block! Hooray! That made me so happy when I saw it because, before, the last 3 books where just stacked in front of the square that Cinder was in because they didn't fit :,)
If you haven't read Red, White, and Royal Blue, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE?? READ IT!!! It's so good and has such fantastic representation. I want to give Alex Claremont-Díaz a hug and for June Claremont-Díaz to be my best friend. I want to live in that universe so badly... Ellen Claremont, you should've won the 2016 US election in real life *cries*
BLOCK #5
YAY ALMOST ALL OF MY RIORDANVERSE BOOKS FIT IN ONE BLOCK! There's just The Hidden Oracle on the next one, but I think I'm going to get rid of that one because I didn't like it and won't be finishing the Trials of Apollo series.
The only new books on here are the first two. I'm pretty sure I mentioned The Things We Carried in my last tour, but it's a book I had to read for my college Modern Literature class and ended up really liking it, to my surprise. It's definitely not something I'd choose to read on my own, but was pleasantly shocked by how much I enjoyed it. If We Were Villains wasn't quite as good as I was expecting it to be, but I did like it! The dark academia vibes were off the charts.
I'm planning on getting The Lightning Thief, The Titan's Curse, The Son of Neptune, and The Mark of Athena soon so I can give the PJO and HOO series a proper re-read. Percy is my OG book boyfriend and I miss him. Plus I want to see if a re-read can make me like Jason Grace since I didn't care for him the first time around. But then again, I was 12-13 and hopelessly in love with Leo Valdez.
BLOCK #6
Pretend the first book isn't there but MY HARRY POTTER BOOKS ACTUALLY FIT ON ONE SHELF!!! WHAT??? WHAT IS THIS MADNESS??? I am so happy. I hate JKR and I hope she is tormented for all eternity in the pits of hell, but I am keeping my HP books because I believe that the universe belongs to the fandom and I am able to admit its flaws.
BLOCK #7
All of my Maggie Stiefvater books fit in a single square too!!! :D Ari and Dante will have to be moved to block #6 once I remove THO, but I'm not gonna squeeze the next series in with this square because 1) there's another Dreamer Trilogy book coming out, and 2) I don't want to break up the Ember in the Ashes series.
I did try to read Maggie's series from 2009, The Wolves of Mercy Falls, but Jesus Christ I didn't like the first book and couldn't finish the second. At least I only bought those two and not the whole thing. I didn't put those on the shelf because I'm getting rid of them.
BLOCK #8
I hate how AEITA is the only one with the old cover style, but I digress. The only new book here is The Hate U Give, which is fantastic and something I 100% recommend reading.
BLOCK #9
These are all of the books I had to read in high school for my English classes. Well, almost all of them, because I kept The Great Gatsby, Khaled Hosseini's books, TTWC, and Fahrenheit 451. Plus there are more paperbacks in my nightstand as aforementioned. I might want to rescue The Picture of Dorian Gray as well, but I haven't decided yet.
As a recap, here are the books I'm getting rid of:
—All of my Casserole Clam books
—A random nonfiction book about twins who were separated at birth that someone got me years ago
—Random extra Harry Potter book that somehow came into my possession
—The 100 by Kass Morgan
—Dorothy Must Die series by Danielle Paige
—The 5th Wave trilogy by Rick Yancey
—Shiver and Linger by Maggie Stiefvater
—Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan
—Legend, Prodigy, and The Young Elites
—The Hidden Oracle
—The One
—The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger
—all of the paperbacks that were shoved in block #9 except maybe not The Picture of Dorian Gray
It's taking me forever to get rid of these because I don't know what to do with them. Most, like CC's books, are in perfect condition, so I'll probably take them to a secondhand store and see if I can get decent money for them. The others I might take to these little free libraries around my neighborhood and just shove them in there (they look like a little house-shaped shelf on a stick).
Anyways, I'd love to hear your thoughts on some of these books that I've mentioned!!
