32 | my OCs as dogs
Dogs are really taking over my life, and I've seen things like this in the past for characters in different fandoms, so I thought I'd give it a go!!
DYLAN — Australian Shepherd. Dylan hates being alone and is very hardworking. The Australian Shepherd is a herding dog who always wants something to do and enjoys being around others. It's also a leader-type, and Dylan is definitely assertive and always sticks up for herself and what she thinks is right. It's not easy to walk all over this dog and the same goes for Dylan!
THEO — Jack Russell Terrier. These dogs are extremely loyal and energetic. Prior to his injury, Theo wanted to be a Runner and was very good at it, which would allow him to expel some of the energy he has. Instead, he has to focus it on building and fixing things. Just like this breed, he's affectionate, friendly, and devoted to the people he loves.
FALLON — Black and Tan Coonhound. These dogs are known for being intelligent and affectionate. They're also great hunters, where they work tirelessly, just like Fallon (who has actually passed out due to a lack of sleep). They're adventurous and love scoping out new places on walks. Also it looks a lot like Shay and I'm kinda scared.
CALEB — Border Collie. These dogs are workaholics and require near-constant stimulation. Caleb loves mental and physical challenges and, when he doesn't have a task, he can often be found tinkering with scrap metal or spare screws from his pocket. Border Collies are also super intelligent, which matches with Caleb's genius.
THALIA — Korean Jindo. Thalia has a tough shell to crack at first, but once you get through to it, she'll love you endlessly. The same goes for the Jindo. They're very intelligent and like doing things, similarly to how Thalia doesn't like sitting around and waiting for something to happen.
MATTHIAS — Labrador Retriever. The classic family dog!! They're extremely friendly and playful, and though they're an intelligent breed, sometimes they can have dumb moments (sorry Matthias). Labs are hardly aloof with anyone and are full of love! Plus the Lab in the photo has matching eyes with Sean and I think that's great.
ASHER — Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Because Asher is from District Four, I had to go with a water dog. They're extremely affectionate toward their family but not toward other dogs, which is kinda like how Asher pushes other people away with his jerk façade.
CARLY — Basenji. This breed is very tolerable to alone time, just like Carly, who tends to be a lone wolf. They're also relatively quiet and not very playful. Carly is serious and called "uptight" by Asher since she's so matter-of-fact. They're also both extremely stubborn.
NADIA — Shiba Inu. Both Nadia and the Shiba Inu have such squishable faces where you want to love and protect them forever. They have cat-like agility, just like how Nadia was the best Runner in the Glade prior to her accident. They're pretty stubborn (*cough* Nadia refusing to give up on Ben when he was Stung and trying to run into the Maze to help him herself *cough*) and the Shiba's personality matches up to Nadia after she learns to stick up for herself.
ONTARI — Staffordshire Lab Mix. I chose a mix of breeds because the Staffordshire is SUPER muscular, and while Ontari is in great shape, she doesn't like like Dwayne the Rock Johnson in dog form. Plus some of the Lab attributes also apply to her!! These dogs are incredibly affectionate toward family members, intelligent, and eager to please. That fits with Ontari wanting to uphold her mask around others so she follows the Capitol's strict orders for desirables.
CASSIAN — Doberman Pinscher. These dogs are highly intelligent and active. While Cassian does prefer to read books most of the time, he also follows a strict training routine and has built up his strength. Dobermans can be aloof toward other dogs, which is the same for Cass. He doesn't trust easily and can be very blunt. This breed is also pretty quiet, similarly to how Cass prefers to sit and watch what's going on before he engages, if he does at all.
HESTIA — Alaskan Malamute. If you aren't very stern and strict with this breed, they can quickly become bored and difficult to deal with. They require lots of space to roam and burn off energy. Hestia is a wanderer who doesn't like being cooped up in one place for long or she gets irritable and restless, making her a perfect match for this dog.
ARES — Pitbull/Lab Mix. Both Pitbulls and Ares have a bad reputation and most people find themselves wary around them. Ares can appear unapproachable and mean, but to the people he cares about, he's very caring. Pits also may not be very friendly toward other dogs, especially ones who are aggressive. I chose the Lab part because Ares is energetic and adventure-loving. I feel like he would really like the water if he was given the chance to go in it!!
KIERNAN — Golden Retriever. Kier has literally been described as a Golden Retriever in the comments of Fireheart so many times, and for good reason. He's soft and non-aggressive. Both are eager to brighten up people's days and always want to help, plus they look identical. Spot the difference between the photo of Froy and the Golden. You can't.
LENA — Weimeraner. These dogs have SO much energy, oh my GOD. It's a perfect match for Lena, whose powers make her constantly restless and in need of movement. There's a Weimeraner puppy at work and she just wiggles 24/7 and always tries to escape her crate. She's very sweet, just never sits still!! They're intelligent just like Lena, and are adorable, just like Lena.
GRAHAM — Rottweiler. Another dog that looks just like the faceclaim and idk how it makes me feel. Graham's fundamental trait is his undying loyalty and these dogs certainly match that. Both can be intimidating because of their strength, but they're actually very loving and kind. Rottweilers make great guard dogs because they're protective over their family, which is similar to how Graham will stick up for his friends when people are picking on them.
VERA — Corgi. I had to do this because 1) she smol, 2) THEY ALSO LOOK REALLY SIMILAR. Corgis look very innocent and cute but when playing, they can be very rough and generally 👹. Their little legs are misleading; they have a TON of energy and can zip around like it's nothing. Both Corgis and Vera are loud. Poor Vee tends to spit things out before she thinks about them, just like how Corgis bark at literally anything. Picture a small, cute dog but it's growling at you. That's Vera in a nutshell.
DOMINIC — German Shepherd. These dogs are... somethin' else. They're very kind and loyal, but also pretty tough to handle. They're always off to find the most exciting thing they can find, and if they don't get it, they're restless. Dominic is the same. He usually finds himself in bad situations, mostly in regard to relationships, because he tends to go for the most exciting person or one who wouldn't be good for him. However, they're both focused and driven to achieve their goals. They also tend to be loud, and when does Dominic not have something to say??
This was a BLAST and I loved doing this. It was a lot of work, especially because I didn't want to just do dogs that looked similar to my OCs. I wanted to actually dig into the personalities of each breed and match them up with a character. I've actually learned a lot!!
Let me know what you thought!!
