Angst-ish Songfic
I won't say the name of the song yet

(Your POV)
Why were you always in misfortune? No matter what Shuichi had done, something bad always had to happen. Slowly your lives had devolved until there was no turning back. All that was left of living "normally" was... eating food. You couldn't even afford to have a place to call home anymore.
So many questions
But there's only one to be answered
Who are we? Who are we?
To chase what we were after
I thought that I knew
Guess I was misconstrued
A small chuckle escaped your lips. The entire story began to reply in your head. You'd met the shy boy through a dating website, and when you met in person you learned so many cool things about him. He had a comfortable life and a small fortune from being a popular detective, and you were surprised he'd just date somebody like you. Meeting someone with that kind of prestige on a dating website seemed insane!
Eventually the two of you had a second date, and then a third, and fourth... and after several months you decided to move in. The kind gentleman Shuichi was, he helped you move in your boxes. His house was small but cozy, and you liked it. It was better than a big house that felt there was too much room to be truly loved as a house, but to instead be loved as an indication of riches.
Starvation from success
I rose above the ashes
Was driving to impress
To appease the greater masses
Climbing higher
Only to see a crooked empire
It seemed the media seriously didn't like Shuichi's decision. No matter how much he assured them that you were perfectly fine, for some reason nobody seemed to like you. It was as if they thought you were some kind of poison. You told Shuichi that you'd leave to save his job, but he insisted that you stay and ignore the protests. He claimed that it'd die down after they realized you had a solid resolve to stay and they wouldn't care.
The biggest mistake of your life was believing him.

You decided to be actively against the media, though Shuichi warned you not to. Yet you said if you made posts against it that might gain people's attention that you were strong, so he reluctantly agreed. Next thing he knew, the cases people had requested of him were revoked. They went to other detectives for the cases, even if they'd get an answer months later than Shuichi could provide and at a higher cost. People didn't care as long as it didn't support you.
At this point you were both in tears. You tried to run away to save Shuichi's job, but he always knew when you were trying and convinced you to stay. You loved him too much to want to leave him, and you decided to lay low. The media raged even more and called you a wimp and other things. It got so bad you had to delete your social media.
Our lives were lost to us
Reduced to lines on a page
Our time, it costed us
What happened to the words we made?
We lost the spotlight
No more old songs in the night
At this point both you and Shuichi had no jobs and no luck finding one. All the media outrage followed both of you everywhere to the point it almost felt like the entire world was against you, or the entire world had been possessed. You were running out of money and it seemed there was no way to get any more. You had to sell all your furniture just to keep the house a little longer.
You always tried so hard
But you moved in a different direction
You should have pushed much harder
I mean no ill intention
The media taunted both of you, someone had leaked the fact you were almost bankrupt to the public. People were telling the both of you to get out of the house already and go on the streets where you belonged. And eventually, the bills piled up and you had no way to pay them. You were kicked from your house.

Now homeless, the last of your belongings were just your clothes, electronics, and whatever food you had. Since you owned your car you piled it all into there, and that became your new house. To simply get gas to go anywhere required you and Shuichi to beg on the streets for money, to which almost nobody would grant. If you were lucky an entire day brought you five dollars.

Slowly, your car was running out of gas. You couldn't stay in town parking lots overnight or else you'd get a fine for loitering, so every night you had to make a trip out of town. But then you decided to go out of town... and never come back. You'd live completely off the grid, just you and Shuichi.
Old friend, old friend
This is- this is the end for us, for this
We've ran out of this
But now
We're here
Confused
And full of fear
There must be
Another story
I'm sure we would all like to hear
The two of you drove so far into the mountains the car would barely have enough gas to go back if you ever changed your mind. But you both had no intention of doing so.
Your first few months were full of work nonstop, trying to build a log cabin while also needing food and a constant water supply. Usually in the morning one of you picked berries and the other caught and cooked a rabbit or bird, if you could. If not then you had a breakfast of berries. In the afternoon you'd both cut down trees and carry it back to the household site, where you used makeshift tools to keep the wood in place.
So many questions
But there's only one to be answered
Who are we? Who are we?
Who are we?
After long days and nights of work, the log cabin was finally complete. At last you had a place to call home. You made beds out of hay, grass, and other soft woodland things you could find. Eventually you made tables and chairs and a small fireplace inside so you could finally cook indoors. You had to use an old fashioned toilet, however. There was a bucket you used and once you were done you dug a hole outside, dumped it in there and buried it. Not to mention you had no toilet paper so you had to use leaves.

After a very long time of living in the mountains, you had both lost track of time. You didn't know what day, month, or year it was. All you knew was that there had been two distinct winters and summers so at least two years. Time continued to tick on and on, and you and Shuichi were old. Both of you had somehow never had any arguments over all the years, perhaps it was because surviving was a bigger priority than starting fights.
Both of you decided to try and start up the old car to go into town and see what people in society were up to. The car ran just perfectly, and your phone somehow still had battery enough to power on and tell you the day. It had been thirty years.

When you got into town, your car was the only one of its kind on the road. All the stores were different and the prices for everything were way higher. However, nobody seemed to recognize either of you and strangers were very helpful- enough to give you money and food!
One stranger was kind enough to let you shower properly for the first time in thirty years at his house and you both got new clothes from the dirty rags you owned. You got to throw them out and wear a completely different style of clothes. But you both liked it.
Who are we? Who are we?
Who are we?
"Gah!!" You suddenly woke up to feeling a poke.
"Y-you were singing that song again..." Shuichi explained nervously.
"Oh, sorry," You giggled.
The whole thing had just been a nightmare... thank god. In reality you were still in college and met Shuichi because you had a couple classes with him.
Though Shuichi as a detective in the future is really hot... and he IS going to law school...
"(Y/N)? (Y/N)?!" Shuichi waved a hand in your face.
"S-sorry! I spaced out..." You apologized quickly.
"It's okay... b-but... get some sleep, we have school tomorrow," Shuichi reminded you, hugging you tighter.
"Alright, alright," You smiled, kissing his forehead and closing your eyes, nuzzling him. What an amazing life you had.
