cromdo lifts himself up from the grass , standing up and putting his paw on his head . the impact from hitting a rock must ' ve been really bad . he picked up his hat and placed it back on , looking around .

" jeez , this looks a lot weirder then i expected . " he said , walking forwards . spotting a strawberry - looking creature , he walked towards it , said creature scurrying back into the bushes . he decided to not think much of it , going back to his original path .

he stumbled across an area with some waterfalls , some bushes , and a fuchsia - colored grumpus lying on the ground . wait , a grumpus lying on the ground ?

he cautiously walked over to the grumpus , seeing that they have purplish - hair , red eyes , a mayor armband and a heartlocket necklace . they looked over at him , causing him to back up at bit . they spoke , revealing a female voice .

" eggabell ? is . . . is that you ? " she spoke . " oh , thank grump you ' re alive ! . . . too bad i ' m dying though , haha . . " as she stopped speaking , cromdo looked a bit concerned , considering he looked nothing like eggabell . " uuhh . . . who are you ? " cromdo asked . she looked a bit shocked , and responded . " wha - what ? it ' s me , beffica ! "

so her names beffica , he thought . " what the grump happened here , anyways ? " he asked once again . she responded again . " well , i - i was looking for you but then i got hungry and i uh . . . couldn ' t catch any bugsnax . . . " he asked one more question , in an attempt to actually get some information out of her . " where ' s eggabell ? " and simply , beffica responded . " h - huh ? that ' s a weird question to ask , eggabell . . . "

he sighed . " movin ' on . . . " . as she looked longer , she soon realized that it wasn ' t eggabell . " wait . . . you ' re not eggabell . . . oh , grump , it doesn ' t matter who you are , please get me something to eat . . . " beffica said . he answered . " i might as well . "

" hooraaay . . . ow . " she exclaimed , her voice seemingly weaker than before . " i - i think i saw a bugsnak in that bush earlier , can you try and scan it to figure out which one it is ? " he nodded , taking out his " snakscope " , which was given to him from the contents in the box beforehand . he hid behind a tree , waiting for a bugsnak to come out so he can scan it . the bugsnak eventually left the bush , cromdo managing to scan it .

it was called a strabby . it also somehow managed to scan its walking pattern . " weird name . " he said . he walked back over to beffica , telling her of his newfound scan . " found somethin ' called a strabby . " he told her .

" oh ! those are pretty easy to catch , if you aren ' t me anyway , haha . . . here , please do me a favor and have my snaktrap ! " beffica took the trap next to her and gave it to cromdo . " try placing it where you saw its walk pattern . " . she stood up , although a bit wobbly . he placed the trap where the strabby ' s path is . he placed the trap , and opened it using the watch .

" great ! uhm . . . let ' s hide behind that rock over there , the snak is pretty scared of grumpus contact . " beffica said . as they headed behind the rock , the strabby came out . " it ' s out , quick ! close the trap ! " beffica whispered . cromdo agreed and shut the trap . " alright ! uhh - pick it up before it escapes . "

cromdo rushed over to the trap and caught it , taking the strabby and handing it over to beffica . she gladly took the strabby and ate it , her forearm becoming strawberries . cromdo looked concerned , because what type of strawberry turns some grump ' s forearm into STRAWBERRIES ? !

" what in grump ' s name happened to your arm ? ! " he exclaimed . she responded with a sort of strange answer . " oh , this ? kinda cool , huh ? it ' s , like , the side effect of eating bugsnax ! anywho , i ' m still recovering , so could you get me about three more bugsnax ? " " uhm . . . sure , i guess ? " he responded .

" you . are . a . LIFESAVER ! thank you soso much !! " beffica thanked . " oh , yeah , sorry about being too busy dying to introduce myself . i ' m beffica winklesnoot ! i ' m the , uhh . . . " mayor " around here . sorry if this is like , kinda stupid , but what are you doing out here ? " she asked . cromdo adjusted his hat , responding . " eggabell batternugget told me to come here . that ' s really all , pal . "

" wait a second . . . you ' re the journalist eggabell was talking about ! i knew it was stupid to ask . . . " she said . " she said you ' d be coming but uhh . . . you ' re a bit late . but i can show you the way to town , follow me ! " cromdo nodded , and walked alongside beffica .

" she said . cromdo looked a bit concerned . " whatever ya say , i guess . . . but where even is she anyway ? "

beffica slightly frowned . " i - i don ' t really know . i was out here looking for her and liz , but i didn ' t . . . but i ' m sure she wouldn ' t , like , want to miss her interview with you ! " she attempted a smile . " anyways , are you ready to go ? "

" ready as i ' ll ever be . " he said . beffica smiled . " great ! let ' s head over there . " she moved the bushes , walking through . cromdo followed her , unsure of what ' s gonna happen next .
