You pinched the bridge of your nose as you looked at Miss Undertaker who was standing in front of you.
"What did he do this time...?"
"Just messed with the dead, MY dead."
You nodded and placed your cowgirl hat over your head, mentally preping yourself for the fight that would eventually take place once you found out which hideout your mischevious boyfriend was in. You were getting tired of having to be the one chewed out for the actions he did, but no matter how much you pleaded with him to dial it down, you got the same answer.
"Sorry sweet pea, once a bandit always a bandit."
Just hearing that phrase repeat itself in your head made you mad. You get it, he's independent and so are you, but this is too much. Sometimes you want to look up just to accept whatever will take you or become of you. You were that done.
"Ya know which hideout he's in? I don't feel like going door to door today."
"The one near here. You know (Y/N), I overheard the sheriff saying how Bandit is on his last string with the townsfolk, they didn't mind him before, but now his tricks have increased and have caused harm around the valley-"
You couldn't take it anymore and snapped.
"I know! I know I know I know I know! You guys always chew me out for what he's done, but never go directly to him! My words don't effect him, I'm literally down to my last string with him too! I'm so tired Miss Undertaker, but he doesn't care about what he's doing to me, so why should I care? Give me a reason!"
You were out of breath, tears running down your wood, you quickly composed yourself and dabbed out the water with your hankercheif, hoping it wouldn't rot. You looked at Miss Undertaker, her eyes wide from your outburst.
"Dear, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to make it seem like I was chewing you out for his actions. That Bandit just got me really stressed lately and I- we, haven't seen the damage it's been doing to you."
You sighed.
"It's not your fault Miss Undertaker, I'm sorry as well, now let us be off then. I got a Showdown Bandit to chip."
Miss Undertaker let out a laugh as you both began your journey to one of Bandit's many hideouts. On the way you encountered people whispering about.
"Look, there's the one who doesn't keep her tramp under control."
"Oh hush she's doing her best."
"Her best my arse, that boy almost made me lose an arm, if I was her I'd get him out of my life!"
"Shush! She'll hear us!"
Miss Undertaker threw a glare at the townsfolk and they went back to their business. She shook her head and patted your shoulder.
"You're doing a great job dear."
You nodded and threw in a shrug. Were you doing a good job? Ha, you wished. You already knew the answer to that. You both arrived at the hideout and opened the door. You found Bandit messing around with his pop pistol. He looked up at the two of you and rolled his eyes as he saw you with an angered look and put the pistol away.
"Come to yell at me some more?"
"Of course."
Miss Undertaker took that as the sign to leave and left without uttering a word, though to be fair she knew things were going to get ugly.
"Look I'm sorry swee-"
"Oh cut the cow manure! Can you stop telling me that once a bandit always a bandit and give me an actual reason on why you are torturing these people? It was better when you only robbed the bank here and there or got into a few showdowns. What happened?"
You got in his face and looked him dead in the eyes.
"Where is the Bandit I fell in love with? The one who would at the drop of a hat, stop robbing a bank if an old woman was in danger, if anyone were in danger...Now it seems like you put everyone in danger, and the one I loved is lost."
You were crying at this point and you were frantically wiping them down as Bandit looked at you in shock. You continued, hoping if you talked more he'd understand even though he himself was on the verge of tears.
"I'm tired. I'm tired of being chewed out by Miss Undertaker, Mr. Carver (A/N: Doc), the sheriff, and the banker. They all act like it's my fault the banks are being robbed every single day, my fault the stringless aren't in their graves in the morning, my fault people are being hurt everyday, my fault I can't keep you in line like some toy! The townsfolk whisper about me and avoid me like the plague when I go out and I'm tired of it. Tired of you not caring about my feelings."
You took a breathe as you finished, you didn't care about the tears streaming down your face, you'll have Doc fix up your wood later. After seeing Bandit's face, containing no expression, you scoffed.
"Of course, I'm just a trophy girl to you, I don't matter in your eyes anymore. Fine."
Before Bandit could say anything, you ran out the door. He finally snapped out of it once he realized what just happened.
"(Y/N)! Wait!"
He was too late as you were already out the door. He put his hands to his face and slid against a wall and let out a small noise of agony. He heard the clink of spurs and looked up. The sheriff had arrived and stood in the doorway. Bandit looked at him emotionless.
"Come here to lock me up?"
"Nah, not today, just here to kick you in your emotions again."
"You heard her?"
"The entire valley did bud, pretty sure Lorelei is having to put the stringless back to sleep because she woke them up."
Bandit groaned again and put his hands back over his face.
"C'mon bud, we've been at each other for years and you've never been like this. What's wrong partner?"
Bandit sighed and decided it was time to bite the bullet.
"I just feel like I went soft, like I wasn't the bandit everyone had grown to have a little fear over, but since I met her I've heard them saying all sorts of stuff about me. I've lost my touch and the sorts. And I dunno it just broke something inside me."
The sheriff shook his head.
"Partner, that ain't a good reason, but it was what I was expecting. You didn't want to swallow your pride and let it take over you. Now, your actions caused that poor girl to run straight into dead man's gulch-"
Bandit jumped to his feet before the sheriff could finish and grabbed his coat.
"You let her run off there by herself!? She could get killed!"
The sheriff smirked.
"Then go save her."
Bandit realized what the sheriff's intention were and though it had a huge risk, the sheriff knew Bandit would make that risk into a much smaller one.
"If she's dead by the time I get there, it's your strings sheriff."
The sheriff nodded and Bandit let go of his coat before rushing out the door.
"Pray to the master above they don't encounter the faceless bandit..."
~~~
Bandit reached Dead Man's Gulch to find Miss Undertaker fighting off stingless left and right. He was about to help her when she yelled out to him that you were more important and the sheriff was on his way. Bandit nodded and continued running.
"Ya damn dead!"
He smiled upon hearing your voice before focusing on the situation you were in. He rushed to were you were at and found you on top of a gravestone fighting with nothing but a steel board.
"Looks like you need some help!"
You looked up from your post and rolled your eyes before sticking your tongue out. You didn't notice the stringless grabbing your leg and dragging you to the ground. You shrieked.
"(Y/N)!"
Bandit called out to you as the stringless tore one of your strings off. He shot his pop pistol and put that dang thing to rest before you lost another string. Quickly reeling his bullet back he shot another while you took care of his vulnerable back side with your steel board. It wasn't long before the two of you took care of all the stringless.
"That...took...too...long..."
Bandit panted as you slumped to the floor.
"Yep..."
Bandit offered you a hand and you accepted it. He pulled you up and hugged you.
"I'm sorry."
You smiled and hugged back.
"It's okay."
Bandit shook his head, still not letting you go.
"It's not, the sheriff talked to me after you left and he was right, I let my pride get to me because I didn't want everyone to think I was going soft. Now I don't care what they say, I just want to be with you."
You pulled away from the hug and smiled more.
"There's the Bandit I love."
Bandit was about to answer when the area around them turned dull and things seemed to go hazy. Bandit froze and his wood seemed to pale as the thunk of wood and spurs clacked behind the two of you.
"Bandit...?"
"Run."
You didn't do anything, too scared to move. Bandit looked around before spotting the foe he feared most.
The Faceless Bandit.
He quickly grabbed your hand and began to guide you out of dead man's gulch, Faceless Bandit close behind. You turned around and saw a scythe barely miss your nose. Your hat wasn't so lucky however and the tip got cut.
"Who is that?!"
"The Faceless Bandit! Just keep running! He should stop after we get out of here!"
You both dodged pillars and graves along with various stringless. You were about to reach the exit when Bandit quickly pulled you behind a wall, pinning you. You were about to say something when he put a finger to his lips. You both held your breath as you heard Faceless walk closer towards where you were before you heard him grunt. He had disappeared. Bandit let go of his breath and moved himself out of the way.
"He didn't pursue further, that's good, I think....one swoop and we both would have been goners..."
You nodded before the adrenaline wore off and you hissed in pain. You grabbed your arm where the string was cut and fell into Bandit's arms.
"We need to find Mr.Carver.."
You managed to say and Bandit nodded.
~~~~
Upon your arrival into town, Doc ran up to you, med kit in hand. He had heard from Miss Undertaker and the sheriff that you both would probably be in a roughed up condition. He fixed your string in a flash and charged you nothing for your troubles in an exchange for accepting his apology for putting so much pressure on you. When Doc left, Bandit grabbed both of your hands and took them into his.
"(Y/N), I'm awfully sorry about everything...and I hope you can forgive me and I know I already apologized in the Gulch, but I just needed to let it all at out. I don't want this to leave a bad chip on this relationship."
You brought Bandit's hands to your lips and kissed them. (A/N: shush it's not weird and it's more a bonk lol)
"I forgive you."
Bandit smiled and picked you up before twirling you around. By magic your strings didn't get caught with one another, and he set you down.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
