Emma's POV~
I woke up actually quite early, I just couldn't move. Spencer was still sleeping on top of me. At least he had a peaceful face at the moment.
It killed me to see him so worried last night. He had basically cried himself to sleep, and it hurt that I couldn't do anything to help him.
I sighed as I moved a piece of hair from his face since it was sticky from his tears.
It was moments like these that I missed the most. When it was silent, and he was still sleeping, I was just holding him. It was like the world stopped. I loved it.
"Oh, baby." I whispered, running my fingers through his messy hair.
"I especially miss you playing with my hair." He mumbled, his voice rough and deep from just waking up.
I sighed, "Babe, if we keep naming the things we miss, we would never shut up."
"I know." He smiled, "That's what I loved about you. There was so much to love about you."
"Spencer, baby, just stop before I kiss you." I laughed.
"I wouldn't mind." He muttered. He rolled over, looking at the clock. He sighed, "I gotta get up. I need to go see her."
He started to get up, then rolled over, crawling off the bed. I watched as he grabbed his bag, then went to the small
bathroom connected to the room. Soon enough, I heard the shower running.
I looked to Carson, seeing him still asleep. After deciding, I got up and began to rummage through my bag. I just grabbed a pair of jeans, and my KANE shirt.
Yes, I had his shirts. I supported him while we were in high school. So, I bought his shirts.
I had changed, and had my hair pulled up by the time Spencer was done in the shower.
I stepped passed him as he walked by, but he grabbed my wrist. Pulling me against him.
"Yes?" I asked.
He didn't say anything at first, he just pulled me into a hug. There was nothing more I loved than his hugs at this moment. He was at just the right height that made it feel perfect.
"Thank you for being my best friend." He whispered.
"Yeah." I mumbled.
Best friends. That's all we were, best friends.

"I don't understand!" I protested, "What's wrong with my mother?"
"She has a tumor on her heart." The doctor explained, "It's malignant. Cancerous. We can try chemo, but chances are it won't work. She's already stage four, and we can't surgically remove it."
"Why not?" I asked.
"The tumor is in her aorta. As soon as we made the incision, she could bleed out in little as 30 seconds." He answered.
I sighed, "So, either way, she's dying."
He nodded, "Yes. I am very sorry."
He said that and walked away. The mother I never really knew, was dying.
Dang it. Could my life get any more stressful?
Carson cooed, playing my ponytail. He pulled at, but it didn't hurt.
I stepped inside my mom's room, and sat down. She looked to me, and groaned.
"Why are you still even here? I thought I said you weren't my daughter." She spat.
"Wow." I muttered, "Mom, I'm trying to be a good daughter. You're making it really hard."
"I'm already dying. I know, I'm going to hell." She yelled.
"Mom," I whispered, "Keep it down. Please."
"Just leave me alone!" She screeched.
Carson began to whimper as I stood up. I nodded and left her room. Why should I try to be a good daughter when she won't even attempt to be a mother?
Once I left the room, Carson quieted down. Which I was grateful for. I wasn't really in the mood to console a crying child in the middle of the hospital.
I sat in the waiting room. I heard a machine go off, rapidly going off, then doctors and nurses ran towards the noise. I bounced Carson on my hip, and he giggled happily.
I still couldn't get over how happy he always was. I could see him making a difference in the world one day.
"Ms. James?" Someone asked.
I looked up, meeting the nurses gaze. I nodded, "That's me."
She smiled, "Is he yours?"
I shook my head, "No. He's my little brother. My half-brother."
"But, um, the reason I called for you." She sighed, "Your mother just passed. I am very sorry."
"What, what happened?" I asked.
"You know how when you get angry, and you feel your blood rushing? Blood was rushing through her aorta, and with the tumor, it was all too much. Her artery bursted and she bled out before we could even be aware of what was happening." She explained.
I looked down, being completely shocked. Carson looked up at me, his happy expression no longer there.
"Wow. I-uh," I muttered.
"Do I need to call someone?" She questioned.
"No." I replied, "I will."
She nodded understandingly, "I would call a lawyer too. Since you're her next of kin, you'll have to deal with legal issues."
"Of course." I mumbled, "Thank you. I'll, uh, be back in a few minutes."
"Take all the time you need." She reassured.
I stood up, and made my way towards the elevator. I just needed some air. A break.
Yesterday I was told that she was in the hospital with cancer. Today, she died. Seriously? When I asked if life could get anymore stressful, that wasn't a challenge.
~*~*~
I watched as Spencer came towards me. He was first person I called, then my dad, as my father and lawyer. One perk.
"Hey," Spencer whispered, pulling me into a hug.
"Spenca!" Carson babbled.
Spencer took Carson, as I held onto him. I just wanted to stay in his hug forever. I felt safe and secured. A soft spot during this chaos.

I am on a roll. Seriously. Anyway, a little emotional, especially for Emma. More surprises down the road.😉
