2. No Going Back

𓃬

Throughout the night, shuffling in bed, opening and closing his eyes. It was midnight and he couldn't sleep. It took him a while to finally get up to go sit on his porch. He held the picture in his hand and looked out into the pitch black sky.

Of course, being in the same district, he would see her around, watching her from afar but was forced to separation. Under the President's rule:

You cannot speak to her, you cannot interact with her, you cannot tell her that you are her real father. It's best for everyone this way.

It was all bullshit to Arthur. Who was Snow to tell him that he can't be the father to his own daughter? The answer was that Snow was Snow. He had the power to do anything he pleased, no matter what it cost or who it cost.

"Arthur." he heard a small voice behind him. He turned to see Octavia.

The man gave his wife a small smile, "Hi, hon."

"It's about midnight. What are you doing up? Are you alright?" she asked, wrapping her arms close to her body from the cold temperature.

"Yeah. I'm fine, love. Just go back to bed, I'll be there soon."

She slowly nodded, turning her back towards him. She took a step before stopping, turning her head slightly to speak, "I love you, Arthur."

He didn't reply. This caused Octavia let out a shaky breath. "Please don't forget that." with that, she went inside. Arthur continued to look out into the sky.

"I love you, Kory." Pausing for a moment, he sighed. "I love you, Nova."

Koryn sat on the couch, between her mother and her mother's best friend, Sateen Eisenburg. Grasping Nova's hand, the twenty-four year old mother looking down at the intertwined fingers, giving her daughter a light squeeze. Her daughter looks up at the screen in front of her little District Eleven family to see Snow.

"Ladies and gentlemen," the President had greeted everyone viewing the broadcast, "This is the 75th year of The Hunger Games. And it was written in the charter of The Games that every 25 years, there would be a Quarter Quell to keep fresh for each new generation the memory of those who died in the uprising against The Capitol. Each Quarter Quell is distinguished by Games of a special significance. And now on this, the 75th anniversary of our defeat of the rebellion, we celebrate the 3rd Quarter Quell."

Nova scorned at the clean cut man. His white features that externally showed purity that hid his blood hungry heart. "As a reminder that even the strongest cannot overcome the power of The Capitol. On this, the 3rd Quarter Quell Games, the male and female Tributes are to be reaped from the existing pool of Victors in each district."

Nova's facial color had drained. She was done, she had escaped. Nova did her job and they had made a deal. She had come to the realization that she must go back and revamp the feelings and muscle memory from those years before.

The Hunger Games are back to eat up the last bits and pieces of Nova Devore.

"No." was all Irena could breathe out, looking at her daughter in horror as Sateen brought her hand to her mouth, in shock. Koryn looked around before looking up at her mother, "Mama. I don't understand. What does he mean?"

It took her a while to reply, before making direct eye contact with her seven year old, "They want to send me back into the Games, Kory. With your father."

Arthur couldn't move from his seat, paralyzed. The sharp pain in his heart increased when he realized that this means something to Nova. It was a possibility of Nova and Finnick going back into the Games in the Quarter Quell. Hands clenched into tight fists attempting to restrain himself.

He got up from his chair, screaming. He took the glass vase on the table and threw it across the wall, shattering into bits in pieces. The girl he once loved, the mother of his child was being forced back into the place of torture that left her broken and cold.

"Honey." was all she said as she entered the room, startled at the mess on the ground. "What happened?" he couldn't stop pacing around. "This isn't right, this isn't fucking right! We kept our end of the deal and he couldn't keep his! Fucking prick!"

Arthur slammed his hands on the table, causing Octavia to jump back. Without Finnick or Nova at Koryn's side, she'd have no one. Unless one of them wins. "They need to win, Tavia. Finnick or Nova, one of them has to win. For Kory."

"There's nothing we can do, Arthur." she softly replied, holding his bicep, trying to calm him down. "If they don't make it, Nova has other people in her life. Like Irena, or Sateen." Arthur looked at her in disbelief.

"Like I'm going to trust anyone else with my daughter," he hissed, moving his arm taking himself out of her grasp. She moved back, "I'm just saying Arthur, you heard what Sno-"

"I don't care what Snow says!" he yelped. "She's my daughter, Octavia, mine. No one's taking her away from me. At least, not again." he grabbed his coat and walked out the door.
