They came on Christmas Eve. Wave upon wave of invaders. There was no warning and no mercy. The five hundred most populous cities were targeted with inconceivably powerful devices that vaporized the great metropolises, leaving no one alive. Next came the chemical attack, targeting the remaining towns, rural areas, coastlines, and farms with deadly precision. In a span of eight days, ninety-six per cent of mankind was eliminated. The grieving and confused survivors screamed up to the heavens and asked "Why?"
