Here are some recurring questions that we have taken the time to answer in order to provide you with lasting information.

They are numbered to help us redirect people asking one of these questions to another section.

♦︎

1. DOESN'T THE MUTUAL ASSISTANCE BONUS ENCOURAGE DISHONEST OPINIONS?

► First things first: a simple bonus is not responsible for the human race's hypocrisy.
If people are not sincere, the problem comes from them, it's up to these people to work on themselves to correct this point.
What's more, 0.25 points make almost no difference to the final mark, believe it or not, that's been my experience!
However, if you notice a comment from a writer that seems suspicious, contact us by private message and we'll look into the matter.
The same applies to spectator engagement.

♦︎

2. CAN I PUBLISH MY SHORT STORY IN A COLLECTION?

► Yes, you can. But you'll need to highlight your work and give us a clear warning of this detail.
Please note: you will still need to put together a cover and a summary for the occasion.

♦︎

3. CAN I COMBINE ROLES/THEMES?

► Yes, for example you can take part in the Stickers Battle and then be a writer and a spectator (and even a judge!). However, you can only be a writer or judge in one theme: if you're a writer in theme 1, you won't be able to be a writer in theme 2.
However, if, at the end of the registration period, a theme is short of writers or judges, a writer or a judge can then sign up in several themes (the only reservation being that you can't be a judge and a writer in the same theme).

♦︎

4. CAN I ASK ANOTHER PERSON FOR A COVER FOR OUR SHORT STORY?

► Once again, this is allowed. The number of graphic designers is substantial on Wattpad and is accessible to everyone!

♦︎

5. CAN I ADD A PREFACE OR INTRODUCTORY SECTION TO EXPLAIN THE CONTEXT IN WHICH THE SHORT STORY HAS BEEN WRITTEN OR TO THANK MY READERS?

► Obviously, yes.

♦︎

6. HOW MANY BOARDS CAN I SUBMIT FOR THE STICKERS BATTLE?

► You can submit as many as you like, but we'll have to choose just one for the votes: given the number of participants, if everyone submitted several boards, we wouldn't be able to put them all in one chapter.

♦︎

7. CAN I ENTER HERE A SHORT STORY I'VE SUBMITTED IN ANOTHER CONTEST?

► If the rules of the other contest allow it, it's perfectly possible.

♦︎

8. CAN I PARTICIPATE IN MUTUAL ASSISTANCE IF I AM A JUDGE?

► You can advise all authors whatever your role is, even if you are judging a short story that you have advised. The purpose of this contest is first and foremost to enable writers to progress; all advice is therefore welcome.

♦︎

9. HOW WILL WE KNOW OUR FINAL SCORE?

► The scores will be sent to each writer by private message at the end of the edition. We will not, however, be able to give scores criterion by criterion, but feedback from the judges will help identify the weak and strong points of your short story.

♦︎

10. WHAT TYPES OF TEXTS ARE ACCEPTED?

► All texts are accepted, whatever their literary genre and including spin-offs and fan fiction, as long as they remain comprehensible to any reader. Nevertheless, while mature texts are accepted, they must not glorify terrible cruelties, or violate Wattpad's rules.

♦︎

11. CAN I INCLUDE A PROLOGUE/EPILOGUE IN THE TEXT?

► The short story must be exactly three chapters long for themes 1, 2 and 3. One of these can be called a "prologue" or "epilogue", but you must not have, for example, a prologue + 3 chapters. On the other hand, it is possible to include a chapter presenting the story.

For theme 4, the number and distribution of chapters is entirely up to you.

♦︎

12. CAN I START WRITING BEFORE THE EDITORIAL PERIOD?

► You can start writing whenever you like, but the short story must be published during the writing period.

♦︎

13. FOR THEME 1, 2 OR 3, CAN I CHOOSE THE NAME OF MY THEME AS THE TITLE?

► You are totally free to choose the title, it can be the name of the theme or a completely different name.

♦︎

14. WHERE SHOULD I INDICATE THE PUBLICATION OF MY SHORT STORY?

► The chapter called "Common Reminder", published at the beginning of the writing period, allows you to indicate the publication of your short story once it has been completed.

♦︎

15. I'M A SPECTATOR OR I WANT TO TAKE PART IN THE MUTUAL ASSISTANCE BONUS; WHERE CAN I FIND WRITERS' SHORT STORIES ?

► Spectators will be tagged under each participating short story when it is published.
In addition, the short stories can be found in the account reading lists where they will be listed by theme.

♦︎

16. I'M A SPECTATOR OR I WANT TO TAKE PART IN THE MUTUAL ASSISTANCE BONUS; AM I REQUIRED TO LEAVE COMMENTS ON THE SHORT STORIES READ?

► It is obligatory to leave at least one comment on the stories read so that we can verify the readings of each spectator/writer.
However, the content of these comment(s) is perfectly free. You can point out spelling mistakes, give your opinion on the content or form of the story, or react as a simple reader, as long as it's done in a kind and honest way.

♦︎

17. WHAT IS A REWARDING SENTENCE?

► A rewarding sentence is a sentence highlighting a positive aspect of the short story being judged. It should not include anything negative, its purpose being to encourage the author. Examples can be found by consulting the "Prize-giving" chapters of previous editions* or the "Support" chapter of this edition, published at the beginning of the writing period.
However, the content of these comment(s) is perfectly free. You can point out spelling mistakes, give your opinion on the content or form of the story, or react as a simple reader, as long as it's done in a kind and honest way.

*translator's note: this being the first international edition, the previous ones are in French and are available on the EquipeCDN account. However, I would advise you to refer to the "Support" chapter of this edition.

♦︎

18. I'M A JUDGE: CAN I CHANGE MY SCORES AND REWARDING PHRASES ONCE THEY'VE BEEN ENTERED INTO THE SPREADSHEET?

► Notes can be changed until the end of the judging period, nothing is final. In fact, we ask you to fill in your spreadsheet as you go along, even if it means modifying the notes and sentences later; this will enable us to make sure you're doing your job properly.
