A Poem

This is a poem on the book "The Outsiders." This is a possible conversation Ponyboy might have had when he fell unconscious for a few days after the rumble. After Johnny Cade and Dallas Winston died. He was torn up mentally and he was suffering from loss, depression, and anxiety. And Johnny had become an unstable and traumatic topic for him.

Beforeoff I'd like to credit jugheado for collaborating with me to write this. She wrote a lot of what you see below and I'd like to give a shout-out to her.

So anyhow, here is the poem between the same/conscious and insane/unconscious Ponyboy...

A young mind, put at ease

A young mind, has fallen asleep.

What inner thoughts does he speak?

When his mind's exhaustion has reached its peak..

Now let's find out the madness that leaked

From the mind of a boy who was oh, so weak.

...

I vowed to never let him down.

And without him it is like a ghost town.

Don't play around

Or fake a breakdown

Inside don't you really mean freetown?

We shared together a deafened bond,

Before his presence, I'd never abscond,

But now it's him whose gone beyond,

When will it begin to dawn on you?

The fact that he is gone because of you?

It was because of you that he withdrew.

His end was near, that he knew,

He risked his existence because of his golden world view,

I was simply there, standing in queue,

It wasn't me, It wasn't me...

But it was you

You ran to him after Darry

If you hadn't he still would be here,

Living, breathing, his heart still beating.

The slap was threatening,

I couldn't bare it, it was almost deafening

Johnny was a haven, an escape.

But was his fate really my mistake?

Are you really questioning?

His presence may have been welcoming

But your arrival was deadening

Johnny chose the path, rather unsettling,

He made the decision, it wasn't my fault,

He saved innocents, truly he was exalt

His decision?

He saved innocents

But ultimately his death was your fault.

It was because of me, all because of me..

Johnny is no longer in his usual state long for glee,

And he died all because of me...

Yes, due to you his death became inevitable,

The way in which you plotted this was truly exceptional,

And the idea that you killed him is unquestionable.

No...

No...

Johnny isn't dead, I didn't kill him

He's still alive,

His heart still thrives,

He didn't kill Bob,

It was me, It was me,

I'll admit the treason

I'll pay the fee,

Whatever it may be,

Just bring Johnny back to me..

For you I simply cannot do it,

The fact is Johnny was a golden statue

You were in a competition to win him

And death beat you to it.

Johnny...Johnny I can't believe

You bring me safety, warmness

And then you flee?

I just want you to come back to me..

I'm sorry I ran to you after Darry

I'm sorry you had to kill Bob,

I'm sorry it was you who got crushed,

If I had it my way it would've been me..

You're gone and Dally too...

I just can't figure out what to do.

You can do..

Nothing.

I'd do..

Anything.

Just bring Johnny back to me.
