The submarine lights are flashing, and still blaring the wailing alarm. Through the red intervals of light, I try to see my surroundings. A first aid kit on the wall catches my eye. I quickly grab it and try to find my way to the security room, which should be nearby. I grasp for the giant metal door, and when I finally reach it, I run inside, water sloshing at my feet. I run over to the cameras, and try to see if there is anybody else on board. Nothing. Nobody. It's as if the sub was abandoned. I rewind the security tape. There's got to be something. Ten minutes ago, on the outside camera, there's a blob coming towards it. I gasp, and cover my mouth, trying to hold back my sob. The Coast Guard. About sixteen scuba divers, pulling my friends out. The captain, the crew, everyone. I was half expecting someone to kick, or yell, crying, saying I was still out there. Nobody did any of those. I rewind some more, see what the sinking was caused by. The camera shows a whale, hitting the submarine, hard. People start screaming, until the crew comes out.
"We have a slight change of plans," he begins. He starts to explain the situation, but there was one thing that I could focus on.
"We have five hours, until we sink." I quickly check my watch., then the time on the tapes. That was one hour ago. I had four left before I drowned. I tried to think clearly. Everything I thought, was a jigsaw puzzle, with half of the pieces missing. I finally decided on one option: to look for the manifesto. I opened all the drawers, until I finally found it. I looked down and searched for my name, Nicole Gene, but it never showed up. I triple checked. Nothing. I was never supposed to be apart of this tour. Nobody kicked or screamed because they weren't my friends. Nobody knew I was here, because I got on the wrong tour. I looked through my life jacket, hoping to find something. I found a flashlight, and a small map of the submarine. I quickly turned the flashlight on, the alarms were starting to stop, and when that happened, it would be pitch black. I thought about what I could do, until it hit me. I checked the controls, until I saw how deep we were. 17 meters. That was a pretty easy swim, right? I knew I couldn't hold my breath that long, I just needed to find an air tank. I quickly opened the door, and a small wave of water just above my ankle flooded in. I spammed the door behind me, and tried to search my way through with the map. Deep diving supply closets were all the way across from where I was. Water was flowing in fast. I had to hurry. I heard a loud thump, and involuntarily yelped. I checked the port window and nearly passed out. The whale was back, and it didn't look like it was leaving. I looked up. There was another small stream of water pouring in. If I wanted to hurry, I would have to swim. I took a deep breath, and went under. I opened my eyes, and got an immediate sting from the saltwater. I swam for as far as I could, then came up. I could walk to the door now. I opened it, and a creak came with it. I winced, and carefully stepped over to air tanks. I could practically see myself back on land again. Another thump came again, this time much closer. I lunged for the door, but I was too late. The door had closed, locking me in this closet. More creaks came. I screamed, and the closet detached from the submarine.
RHODE ISLAND TIMES

The trio had decided to go onto a submarine expedition, but Gene never got on the submarine with them. The two women believe she left, or maybe something tragic happened. Local police say they have no new leads, but some people believe this may be linked to the Shelly submarine sinking, although tall tourist on that sub survived, and were rescued by the Coast Guard.
