Chapter 30 - Sympathy
Arriving at her apartment, Gidget laid down in her basket. Curling up into a tight ball, she covered her face with her tail, wanting to just fade from the world. Crying softly, she barely even heard someone walking towards her until someone laid down right next to her. Jumping, she quickly threw a punch.
"Guess I should've learned my lesson from last time..." Tiberius murmured, his wing over his left eye as he lay on his back on the floor. Horrified, Gidget raced over and exclaimed, "I am so sorry!" She mentally was kicking herself as she dashed off to grab the ice pack. Coming back, she let the old hawk sit up before placing the pack gently on his bruised eye. Looking at Gidget with his right eye, Tiberius joked quietly, "Hey, you at least evened it out now." He chuckled softly at his own joke. Gidget halfheartedly joined in, her heart in pieces.
His gaze softening, Tiberius whispered quietly, "I heard you and Max arguing back at Pops' apartment. I'm so sorry." Her ears flattened against her head, Gidget lowered her head in shame as she whined, "You heard all of that?"
"Kind of hard not to when you're trying to sleep."
"Sorry bout that..." Gidget whimpered, staring at her paws. Her blue eyes brimmed with tears all over again. All of the sudden, she felt Tiberius pull her into a warm embrace. Breaking down inside, she sobbed into his chest, crying her heart out. "Why would he do that?! After everything we've been through..." she cried, her tears soaking her face and Tiberius's feathers. Gently rocking her in his wings a little, the old hawk whispered softly, "I don't know. What I do know is that he shouldn't have stabbed you in the back like that. He should've considered himself lucky to have a girl like you."
"You always seem to know what to say..." Gidget said quietly, trembling. Hugging Tiberius back, she went on, "Thank you for being a good friend." His heart beating a little faster at that, the old hawk purred softly, closing his eyes. Pressed up against his chest, Gidget found her friend's purr to be very soothing. She could feel herself falling asleep to its beautiful sound. Sensing that the Pomeranian was about to drift off, Tiberius gently laid her in her basket and pulled a blanket over her. He was about to leave when Gidget stopped him.
"Please stay, I don't want to be alone..." Gidget whispered quietly. Smiling softly, Tiberius replied back, "Alright, until your owners come back." The Pomeranian moved over slightly so the old hawk could lay down beside her. Once he was settled in, she rested her head against his chest, listening to his heart. Speechless, Tiberius closed his eyes and purred. Tail wagging slightly, Gidget sighed softly and fell asleep to the sound...
