The Glory of Sebastian
Sebastian grew up in a rural town north of London, England. His whole life, he heard stories of glory by knights and righteous and wicked kings. Honorable princes and noble quests. Sebastian acquired a job as a squire on the day of his twelfth birthday. It was the law of the time. His mother was fully against it ever since he was born. She considered dressing him as a girl but that wouldn't work because the lie would be found out sooner rather than later. Being a squire meant a knighthood at the age of eighteen, if good enough. He would turn eighteen in three days. His quest began today.
As he walked the stone castle proudly waving the British flag, doubt crept up into his thoughts. What if he failed his quest? What if he died? The task was large. He had to travel far to a cave in the mountains where the evil dragon lived. Without dying, he would slay the dragon and travel back home safely.
"It'll be fine," he told himself as he gathered his horse from the stables and adjusted his mail. He kept breathing in and out to keep himself calm. He needed to be as everyone would be watching as he was sent off. Sebastian hoped his family would be there, as well.
His life was not an easy one as he had grown up poor. His father had left him and his family when he was a child to pursue an old flame of his. Idiot. That proves that his father never left boyhood. It had broken his mother who has been depressed ever since.
This day he would prove himself a man that his father would never be.
This day he would prove himself a knight.
