I clutched my gun tightly with both hands as we marched on along the dirt road, towards our doom.

Was it really worth it to sacrifice my enter life and everything I had? I became more afraid with every step I took. This was real and there was no going back. We marched towards the forest up ahead, where we were going to take cover.

We scurried between the large trees and shrubs, with our guns ready to fire at any given moment. We crawled along the ground, hiding behind bushes and trees. I did my best to hide my fear and continued crawling. Do it for Cathy, I told myself for the third time today, giving me a bit of confidence.

Then suddenly there was an eruption of gunshots. I pointed my gun and fired, aiming for the enemy. The forest lit up with flames of red and orange. Explosions filled the air. I wanted to get up and run for my life. But I stayed.

Shrieks and cries and the whistling of gunfire was all I could hear. Trees fell down and bushes burst into flames. I had never been so afraid. But I continued on into the deadly forest.

A soldier, an enemy soldier, appeared from the trees beside me and fired. An agonising pain began to spread throughout my leg. I could feel a liquid substance running down my leg. I had been hit.

"I'm sorry," I whispered at the soldier, with tears in my eyes, and shot him, hitting him in the chest.

I began crying, but continued on
