I hiked up the mountain, the sky was still as dark as night. I needed to be alone for a bit before my long day at school begins.
When I finally reached the very top of the jagged mountain, the sky was lit up with hues of pink and the sun was rising in the distance. I removed my black hoodie and white tank top, leaving me in my bra.
I began unwrapping the material, which was wrapped around my upper body, revealing my large, feathery wings. I spread them out slowly, enjoying the feeling. I stretched them as far as I could, which was pretty far.
In just an hours, I will have to wrap them up again and head to school. No one knew of my wings and no one will ever know. I don't want to be taken in as a science experiment. This is my little secret.
I walked towards the edge of the mountain, longing to spread my wings and fly. I looked down at the world below and jumped backwards. I can't handle heights. My biggest fear is heights, yet I was blessed with these beautiful wings.
It's kind of sad that I am afraid to use them. Imagine what good I could use them for! I could help people and fight crime like a superhero. I could do so many great things with my wings, if only I wasn't afraid to use them.
I was snapped out of my thoughts by laughter, causing me to jump in fright. I thought I was alone. I turned around to see a familiar face a few meters away from me.
"Emma Miller." He grinned at me.
"Who are you?" I asked, although I knew very well who he was. Blake Thompson.
"I know that you know who I am," he answered laughing. "I can't believe that you are an angel afraid of heights!"
"Go away." I glared at him.
"And miss seeing you fly?"
"I'm not going to fly," I answered annoyed.
"Not even for me?" He asked, walking closer to me.
"No, leave me alone!" I replied firmly. This was supposed to be my secret.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to him. I just glared at him, hoping that he will just leave. He reached out his free hand and stroked my feathery wings. I pulled them away from him, creating a loud whooshing noise.
"What are you doing?" I asked glaring at him.
He smiled slightly, "I just wanted to touch them."
"How did you know that I was here?" I angrily asked, changing the subject.
"I see you hiking up the mountain everyday. I wanted to join you."
I turned around and looked at the horizon. The sky was blue with white, fluffy clouds scattered around. The sun was shining high in the sky. If I didn't leave soon, I'd be late for school. I was about to turn around to leave, when all of a sudden a great force knocked me off the edge of the cliff.
I screamed my lungs out as I plummeted towards the earth. I'm going to die! Tears began to fill my eyes, I don't want to die. The ground below became larger and larger by the second. My life flashed before my eyes as I fell. I could see the sharp rocks beneath me growing and getting sharper.
I screamed again. This was the end. I'm not ready to die yet. I screamed as loud as I could, hoping to wake up from this nightmare. Help me! Someone, anyone, save me! I began hysterically crying. Any second I'm going to hit those sharp rocks and that will be the end of Emma Miller.
"Wings!" I yelled out loud, remembering that I had wings.
I flapped my wings as hard as I could. I can't die, not just yet. I began flying upwards, just in time! My feet just missed touching the rocks below me. I flapped my wings as hard as I could and flew back to the mountain.
Blake was no longer there, when I reached the top. I will get him back. I quickly wrapped my wings, once again, and threw on my clothes as I ran down the mountain.
Blake Thompson, I will get you back! I promised myself as I ran down the mountain, hoping that the bus for school hasn't left yet.
