Hi! This is a speech that i wrote for English. My topic was 'Father/child relationships are vital to the success of any individual in society. Agree or disagree. I absolutely hate speeches though :(

Fatherlessness has become the most harmful demographic trend of this generation and it is slowly changing the shape of our society.

Many children are growing up fatherless without their parents noticing the damaging effects. When I researched this topic, I did not realise how negatively a child is effected by having an absent father. Absent fathers are a major cause of declining child and adult well-being in society.

Fatherlessness causes an increase in depression and anxiety, causing the suicide rate to increase by five times the average rate. The effect of having an absent father creates relationship issues in the child's life as an adult. Divorce is common for people who had absent fathers.

Social issues and substance abuse is a common effect of not having a father in your life. It also causes a decrease in academic performance and an increase in dropouts.

Fatherlessness has an impact on both boys and girls, and impacts them in a different way. A boy's behaviour is more dependent on his father's presence more than a girl's behaviour. Boys need their fathers to guide them through life.

Lack of approval and guidance causes emotional pain to boys, causing them to desire to prove themselves. Fatherlessness can cause a boy to display inappropriate behaviour. This increases 32 times the average rate of imprisonment.

Girls are more negatively affected when they have contact with a non-residential biological father while growing up. The effects on girls usually show during adulthood and can cause delinquent behaviour. The relationships girls have with their fathers greatly affect how they see men.

People nowadays are so used to seeing children growing up without their fathers in their lives, that they think that it is okay. The number of absent fathers is growing at a rapid rate and is greatly damaging society.

Fatherlessness leaves people with a sense of abandonment and betrayal, and effects every aspect of their life. Therefore father/child relationships are vital to the success of any individual in society.
