Requiem- Original

"Requiem"- An Original Story based on the song from "Dear Evan Hansen". The song tells the aftermath of The Murphy family's son, Connor's, suicide.

I personally relate to many characters of the musical, Connor and Evan being similar to me in the most ways. Connor, with depression and suicidal tendencies, and Evan, with anxiety. "dear Evan Hansen" Is a great work and one of my favorite Broadway shows. Now, I give you the story.

The room was dark, save for a few dim candles. Why would it be bright, the owner of the room was dead. Kath Laurens had committed suicide by swallowing a whole bottle of sleeping medication and drowning herself in the bath. Her fathers were devastated, and her brother, Josh, was stoic through the whole ideal.

"Why should I play this game of pretend?" He wondered aloud, focused on the picture of his sister in the flickering candle light, "remembering through a second hand sorrow?" He remembered the words of her best friend and father.

"Such a great daughter."

"A wonderful friend." He laughed bitterly.

"Why should I play the grieving brother and cry, saying that I miss you?" He looked down. "And say that my world has gone dark without your light?" He took a deep breath.

"You should have seen Papa and Dad. Papa gave you the world! Yet you threw it away and left all these broken relationships and sharp edges of hate behind you. And Dad read the notes you and Damien would write each other. I read them. He thinks he understands how you felt. But nobody can know but you.

"Don't tell me that I don't have it right. Don't tell me that this is all black and white. Kath, after all you put me through in the last few years, don't even say that part wasn't true. Don't say that you were not the monster that I knew!" He took a deep breath and stood up, pulling a piece of paper from his pocket.

"I found this in here. Papa and Dad don't know I found it. I've read it over a million times, Kath, a note doesn't make up for anything you did. I'm sorry, I just- I wish you would've stayed around a little longer. I wanted my sister back for so long. Now that you're gone I can't make that happen. What happened to the happy girl I knew when we were kids?"

He looked at the ceiling. "We're burying you tomorrow. I'll go by your grave often, okay?" He jumped when he felt something at his shoulder, turning and seeing nothing.

"Jesus-! the fuck was that?" he looked around. "That was fucking weird." He shivered lightly, put the paper back in his pocket and left her room.

The candles flickered out when Kath sat down on the desk, her transparent body shaking as she tried to hold in tears.

"Josh I had no idea..." She whispered, trying to reach out for him. But he couldn't see her.
