HELP
a date. She had a date with some guy that she couldn't even tell him too much about. To say Neuvillette was bothersome would be an exaggeration. But he couldn't completely ignore it either. Not that he cared who Fleur was hanging around with. He wasn't curious or anything like that. No, sometimes he just wished, but really only in the rarest moments, that he was her date. He wasn't in love with Fleur! No, definitely not.
Fleur was his secretary. She had been his secretary for quite a while now. She had always talked a lot and told him unnecessary stuff. She had always laughed so much... she had a beautiful laugh. And she also had always looked so wonderful. Every morning she gave him a charming smile and every morning she smelled of lavender. Neuvillette liked to smell her perfume. Not that he was addicted to it! He was just happy to see her every time.
He was happy to work with her. He was pleased by her open nature. He looked forward to her conversations. He was just happy to see Fleur, to be part of her life. To be honest, only the days he saw Fleur were really nice. Only on these days was the weather in Fontaine flawless. And why? He didn't feel any sadness around her... only happiness.
But there was no way Neuvillette could tell her that! On the one hand because it meant he really liked her and on the other hand because she simply shouldn't know it. No, she wasn't allowed to know! She couldn't know how much he valued her presence. Because he valued her far too much.
"I have some tea here and-" The door closed loudly behind her. "My goodness, that's a lot of folders... I think twenty!" And there she was. The woman who talked non-stop, who he liked so much, but who was mortal. "Don't worry, the tea bag was only in there for five seconds, it almost only tastes like hot water."
Fleur liked to joke that he liked drinking water. He found it amusing that she was joking about it, he just never told her. No, Neuvillette just nodded and accepted all the things. Fleur sat down at her desk and, like every morning, she went over the latest paperwork. Sometimes he thought her talent was wasted here with him. She belonged much more outside. Somewhere where people could see her! But she was sitting here with him.
And she was unusually quiet. Neuvillette didn't want to think about why, but it was quite noticeable. But he couldn't ask. He never asked. He didn't ask anything. If he did that now she would be surprised and she would know that something was wrong. Like yesterday, he had been too curious. And her? She had been looking at him for so damn long. He hated it. No, actually he liked it, but he noticed how every day the wall he had built so carefully to keep her out was breaking down.
"I need a signature here." She got up from her desk and walked over to him. She placed the piece of paper on his table and looked at him impatiently.
"What is that?" He knew what that was. He knew every case inside and out. He just wanted to hear her voice.
Fleur tilted her head to the side and scanned the paper herself, briefly reading through the case. "Another loser man who stole something."
That was a very short answer and judging by her tone, her date wasn't going well. He was happy about it. No. Maybe a little... but the point was he wished her luck. He wished for her that she would find someone. Someone nice, someone who was caring. someone who paid attention to her. Not someone she couldn't tell anything about herself.
Neuvillette wanted Fleur to be happy. A small part of him wished it was him. That he could make her happy, but that wasn't possible. He couldn't. So why not at least help her?
"Not all man are loser." It was just a small sentence. But the sentence had achieved what he wanted. She looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"What's happening? Since when have you been so talkative?" But he couldn't answer at all. She didn't give him the time to do it. "And yet all men are looser, boring and I'll probably end up alone with ten cats."
So he was right! Their date hadn't gone well. Absolutely not good at all. And he didn't want to, but he wondered why it had gone badly. Had he done something to her? or had he just been boring? No matter what he wanted to know!
"But cats don't eat my food, they're quiet, they listen so maybe that's not so bad."
"You're not an old cat lady."
"Hey, I didn't say anything about old!"
Neuvillette suppressed his smile. Yes, he loved talking to her. So much and he already hated the thought, but at some point he wouldn't be able to talk to her anymore.
"I just.. I know I'll regret telling you, but I just want to be in love. I want to grow old and gray with someone and yes, that sounds cheesy, I know." It didn't sound cheesy. It was old-fashioned, but he liked that about her. In fact, he liked everything about her. Just not the part about the immortality, because as she had said: she wants to grow old and gray with someone. It wouldn't be him, it couldn't be him.
"I could help you." That came out of his mouth faster than he actually wanted and she looked at him accordingly.
"If I weren't so shocked, I would laugh." She crossed her arms. "What's wrong with you? How and why do you want to help me?"
He ignored her questions. She didn't need to know any of that. That would just confuse her. "Wriothesley, he has a nice assistant."
"Please what?"
"Will you accept my help?"
