Love In Action (Part 1)
I silently sipped my hot coffee as I sat on the cafe corner waiting. The wind silently blowing by telling me I probably should have layered better. The red v-neck,long sleeved shirt and jeans I was wearing weren't really full filling their purpose except for the fact they went well with my dark brown eyes. But regardless I shivered a bit setting my cup down as I finished he last of it.
I thought about the mission: Find a Girl, Fall in Love, Fake it. Simple as that, and I had been doing exactly that for four weeks now, going on my seventh date with this normal girl. It was suppose to test my ability in the real world, and to help me control my emotions when on a mission or out in the field. Although I did not understand the full intentions of my piers, I went along with it treating it like a game. Only the person I was playing doesn't know.
This test should be a breeze is what I kept thinking, I was never the emotional type, I mean I liked girls and all, but never wanted to get into that. So feeling no emotion- ya, piece of cake.
I picked up my phone to see if she had texted me, we were suppose to meet here at 6:00 p.m. and now it is, 6:15 p.m. Where was she? I sighed as I sat back in the small patio chair, after receiving no notifications of a text. The business of the streets and pedestrians walking by chatting about the latest event, drowning out my thoughts as I took a moment to just breathe in, and out. I closed my eyes.
"Hey, Eric!" I heard a female voice say, I opened my eyes and saw a girl-my girl standing in front of me. I looked at her outfit and for once was stunned by it, never knowing a girl could look so beautiful. I hadnt even notice my mouth that had dropped.
She laughed that cute laugh girls have, or at least I thought it was cute.
"I- um, you look beautiful..." I stumbled over my words. Remember the mission, remember the test, I told myself. She wore a skater skirt, that was some sort of light pink and a white cardigan over a white shirt. I could tell she had straightened her long Brunette hair.
"Thanks!" She said I could tell she was being sincere, I stood up and gently reached for her hand, of which she allowed me to take as we strolled along on the sidewalk joining the hundreds of other pedestrians that walked to their destinations.
"So um.. what are your plans tonight?" I heard her ask. I turned toward her still walking.
"I was thinking we could see a movie, and maybe get some food afterwards...?" I half asked pretending I needed her acknowledgement.
"Sure, sounds fun." She said softly giving me that one smile she always have me. I turned my head forward, we were meeting only a few minutes away from the theatre so we wouldn't have to walk their so by the time we stopped talking about how are days went we were already buying tickets.
"O my goodness, I don't know what to choose. I like all of these movies!" She exclaimed after I had asked her which one she wanted to watch.
"How about Love Before Dawn?" I pointed out to her. She liked those romance movies that added that touch of drama. Though, they didn't interest me at all, I still did it. I had too.
She looked at me I could tell she wanted to watch it, but didn't want me to sit through something that would bore me half to death.
"Are you sure?" She asked.
"Ya, totally!" I said adding enthusiasm.
We had gotten back from the concession stands with one bucket of popcorn and two sodas, I had gotten Mountain Dew, well she got Dr. Pepper. The theatre darkened as we began to settle in. I watched everyone below me as some kid was whining about the darkness. I sighed, I couldn't wait to get back to my life as an agent.
Halfway through the movie I had noticed some of the workers at the theatre getting up and walking around whispering something in their ears. One got on a phone as I watched him type 9-1-1. What on earth was going on? I had to figure out what was going on. I looked at Elizabeth, and leaned over casually. She was fully entranced in the movie her cheek wet from a few tears that had escaped.
"I'm going to use the bathroom, i'll be right back..." I was already off before I could get all of my sentence out. Out of the corner of my eye I saw her nod not even blinking as she kept her gaze on the tv.
I stepped into the isle, and quickly descended down the stairs. I followed the workers as they walked out of the theatre. I grabbed the door before it could close and quietly slipped through.
Everything was quiet and still, for everyone had gathered in the two theatres to watch their selected movies. A few workers buzzed around not even seeing me as I hid behind pillars. I ran over to the window to see what the commotion was outside. But before I could do anything bullets blazed through the air shattering the glass into millions of pieces. I ducked and covered my head.
