Sprouts- A Soliloquy
I am a member of the group that goes
by the magnificent name, Gemmiferra
Your look of disgust breaks my heart, it blows.
My quality changes not, with my layars (layers)
Please hear me out, I am pleading you all,
I'm healthy, with essential vitamins
Mother will be proud (by the way, she called)
Do not pass me by, don't treat me like sins
I envy the others, always picked first.
Broccoli, carrots, corn- no one loves me.
"Ew, not Brussels sprouts, they're the worst!"
Give me a chance, damn it, I'm sad, you see?
I've suffered enough, please show me some love.
Don't hate, but lift my spirits like a dove.

I tried modeling this after Shakespeare's sonnet structure, which contains three quatrains with the rhyme schemes of ABAB CDCD EFEF and then a couplet, with the rhyme scheme of GG. I attempted the iambic pentameter component that is often seen in Shakespeare's work, but I was only half successful. Each line is supposed to have five pairs of iambic feet, with a stressed syllable and an unstressed syllable. I was able to accomplish ten syllables per line, but was not as successful in figuring out the stressed/unstressed pattern. I am blown away by the fact that Shakespeare wrote entire plays in these rhyme schemes!
Foodkart prompt- Sprouts
You are Brussels sprouts, the most hated vegetable in the world and now it's your turn to tell people how they've hurt your feelings and why they should love you.
