I was sitting by my window, looking up at the stars and wondering how it had come to this.

Then Nate came in with a blanket and joined me at the window, sitting next to me.

"Hey," he said, bumping me slightly with his shoulder, "Why so serious, eh?"

I looked at him and smiled faintly, a small laugh just beneath the surface.

"I'm just thinking, I guess," I said, turning back to the window.

"About...?" he implored.

I took a moment to collect the thoughts that roamed free. But all I could come up with was a very vague, "Just life."

He laughed, and he turned to me, and said, "Well I'll be here if you ever want to talk about life."

Which made me smile and say, "Thanks."

He nodded in response, putting his arm around me. And that was how we spent the evening, just enjoying each other's company in the light of the moon.
