Tunnel

Tunnel

"Why am I doing this again?" I asked myself as I shone my torch all around the tunnel. It was wet and there was water getting into my socks. I was miserable and I could hardly see anything in front of me. I knew why I was doing this. It was popular. Going into mysterious places where not a lot of people visit. It was a trend ons social media and so I decided to give it a go. "What's the harm?" I imitated my friend's voice who convinced me to come out here.

I was cold and it was dark. It was around nine pm in the evening. That was another one of my ridiculously bad choices for the evening. The second one was coming alone. I was told that it would get me more views, the scare factor would make more people interested.

I was a fool. I was very tempted to go back and forget about the idea. My warm bed was calling to me. Yet, something drove me to go deeper and deeper into the tunnel. Something was yanking me by the front of my shirt, compelling me to go closer and closer. It definitely wasn't the crude graffiti on the wall, nor was it the dripping sounds I could hear up ahead.

"Right, well that's pretty." I started to say as I turned my camera towards the wall, showing a picture of a flower. I pondered it a moment before quickly averting the camera's vision. "Gross." I sighed as I turned the camera off and sat down. I would have to delete that footage. It was not suitable for the web.

I was messing around in my bag, my torch light was focused on the contents. Something caught my attention. I didn't know how. Something moved. I shrugged it off slightly and assumed that it was a bug or something. I sighed and stood back up. The sooner I get a decent amount of footage of this place, the sooner I could leave.

As I went further down the tunnel, I started to hear more and more noises. It wouldn't have surprised me if I was told that the tunnel was right under the city. There was noises of traffic, voices and groaning. I wanted to leg it out of there. I wanted to run and hide. I wasn't going to back out now. I wasn't going to back away from this opportunity.

I wasn't a coward.

I pressed on with my video camera in hand. "You know, I don't know why this is trendy." I mumbled to the camera as I tried my best to not stand ont he cockroaches that crawled along the dirty ground. I didn't want to tak loudly, I didn't like the sound of my voice echoing off the walls. "This is very boring."

It felt like the wind was laughing at me. There was a horrific draught coming from somewhere and it chilled me to the bone. I tried to cuddle myself to try and keep some warmth but I was unsuccessful. I started to look from right to left, I was expecting to see something or someone in the shadows.

I could feel eyes on me, unwanted eyes, unwelcoming eyes. I felt like I was trespassing. Technically I was, I wasn't sure about the rules for coming to places like this. I know I know. I should have done my research.

I did research, I swear. I got too scared to continue. I didn't want to keep reading about missing people or people who had potentially died down here. I knew that they were probably just ghost stories, tales to keep people away from here. I didn't put much weight on them. I didn't believe in things like that.

I was quite far in, when something caught my eye. I had moved the camera so that I could catch it quickly on film. It would be easier to see it through the camera anyway. I came closer and used the camera to zoom in. It surprised me. On the ground in front of me was a doll. It was extremely creepy with blonde hair and a blue dress. She was missing an eye and I could tell where a hat used to be. She had no shoes on and there seemed to be a good layer of dirt caking her entire frame.

"Well that's creepy." I shuddered as I looked at it closer. I didn't dare touch it. I had seen enough horror movies to know how that ended. I know I just said that I didn't believe in that stuff. That was before I came face to face with Annabelle."That's it i'm going. It's not worth it." I huffed and stood up straight.

I could've sworn that I had heard a giggle. A little laugh of joy echoing through the tunnel. That noise made goosebumps appear on my skin and it encouraged me to start sprinting down the tunnel, back the way I had come. Nothing could stop me from getting to the end of the tunnel and escaping this cold, creepy place.

At least that was what I thought.
