----

Just as I finished lighting the second pile of wood, as Katniss and I have planned, I heard a few footsteps. Though that could be anyone, even Thresh, I decided it would be the best if I leave, just to be safe. The smoke from the fresh, burning embers started to cloud and drizzled up. I should really get going.

I started to head for the third pit of fire, but instead, I ran the other way. The footsteps were much closer and I wouldn't have time to light the fire anyways.

But the footsteps followed and continued to trail for a long time. I try to run as quietly as possible, stepping on the right path to prevent any noises, such as snapping a branch or rustling the leaves that were scattered all over the ground.

At least the trees that here are good enough for me to sleep in for tonight. Like a squirrel, I hurry up the thick log and laid on a branch. I stare down, to see the girl with the glittering red hair tip-toe by. Her name is Finch, I think, but she's sly like a fox. She doesn't really suit her name. She walks under the branch, not spotting me. Oh well, good for me, I guess.

Still, it wasn't safe enough to go to the third pit. Sun was dawning, and I told Katniss to keep the glasses for herself. It was quite hard to see already.

I decided to pitch in for the night.

----

"Where do you think she went?" Someone's voice mumbles under me. Oh, no, it was the Careers!

"I don't know. Remeber when someone blew up our supplies yesterday?" Marvel questions. Good, so Katniss did blow up the food. If I die, at least I'll die knowing that.

"Shh! Don't let Cato hear you! He's still mad about it," Clove, the girl from District 2 hisses. Marvel mumbles something back and they leave to the right.

As soon as I'm sure they are out of reach, I pack the sleeping bag and made my way down, about to head to the third pit of fire, where I'm sure Katniss will meet me since I didn't light it up yesterday. I start walking, but as I start to think more, maybe Katniss was worried since I didn't light the pit of fire. So I started jogging towards it, faster and faster.

Maybe I snapped a twig without knowing, but soon, just like yesterday, I heard footsteps. Maybe it was the Gamemakers, playing with my head, maybe not. To play it save, I ran the other way. Don't know why, but the path just seemed more... quiet.

I considered to climb a tree, but from the Gamemaker's thoughts, the trees that were placed around this part of the forest were thin and weak, not any good for climbing at all. There were barely any branches to perch on, anyways, even if I make it up. So I kept my eyes forwards, ignoring the small crap that was growing in my stomach. Hopefully, if I can focus on saving my life, the switch will be gone.

I go for the clearer path, with nothing blocking me whatsoever. It only stopped me a little when I heard the Mockingjay's start to chirp- then sing our four-note signal out. I whistle it out rubbishly, which I don't think the Mockingjay's heard since I was heaving heavily when doing that. Then, I heard the second tweet from the birds. It meant that Katniss didn't get my response, and she needed to.

I stare up at the Mockingjay's, and slightly by slightly, I start to slow down. When I was just about to return her call, I placed my feet on the pile of leaves which I stupidly didn't see. It was then when some of the leaves were spaced out, I saw it was a trap.

I was going to turn to the side, hopefully dodging whatever was going to hit, but it was too late. A mesh net fell over my head, and I was completely trapped.

Shocked, I let out a loud scream as the net completely drape my whole body.

Maybe I still have time to escape before it tightens. I stretch my arms, trying the weave the net out of the way, but it was useless.

"Great job, Marvel." I tilt my head a little bit to see the girl, Clove, holding a dagger. "You can take care of her, yeah?" I was confused. She was straight up talking to no one. But then, a figure in front of me appeared.

"I got it. You go help Cato with 11's dude." 11's dude? Thresh? I didn't know what happened next but all I could hear was footprints fading. I narrow my eyes down to the front. Oh, no. Oh, no, I am going to die.

In front of me, I can just see that Marvel was clutching a spear tightly, positioned to throw.

"Katniss! Katniss!" I cry in alarm. Hm, maybe this really was an okay place to die. It was surrounded by flowers of all colours. Maybe they even have my favorite type of flower, the Primrose. If I die, this is certainly not the worst place to die. It's how I die.

"Rue!" Katniss returned the scream. Oh, who am I kidding? I am not ready to die, yet, maybe.

"Rue, Rue, no!" Katniss' voice approaches me, and soon, she's standing behind me, with her knife already in her hands, ready to free me.  I glance at the figure that was in front of me, but he disappeared. Maybe he heard Katniss.

Katniss slices the mesh open, and she practically tears it off. I stammer to my feet, my eyes watered from the fright and hug her tightly. She hugs me back, her voice unsteady as she mumbles something, which I can't hear.

"You're fine. You're okay," She whispers, her voice hoarse. I nearly break down into complete tears, but I didn't.

I couldn't.

I dared to open my eyes just a little, and behind Katniss, it was Marvel, who appeared again. This time he was really ready to do it. But he won't hit me. He'll hit Katniss. With just the smallest bit of force, I automatically nudge her away from the aim in alarm.

But then, it hit me.

I felt sharp, tearful, pain-bringing spear divides my skin layers and my stomach into half. I felt a moment of being paralyzed before my whole body was filled with pain. I choked back my words, as I stare down.

Katniss gasps, as I felt a muttering sound as her arrow smashes through the air, and enters Marvel's heart. But I have bigger problems than this guy dying.

I was dying too.

The blood from my stomach starts to rain down, my clothes stained with the red liquid. I didn't know what to do, but like mother said, always remove the prick, then clean it.

But this was too much. No one can clean this.

With all my energy left, using my right hand, I managed to push the spear out. I felt a hard breathing. I was losing air, too. With no more energy whatsoever, I feel myself drop down. Katniss managed to catch me before I slammed down on the floor. She slowly laid me down. Whilst her hands and movement were soft and careful, her mouth was not.

"No, Rue, you're okay," she jams. "You're fine, you're..." She stops. Neither of us knows that true.

Oh, the attention. I bet every citizen from the Capitol was pitying me, a dying 12-year-old. More attention than I ever wanted.

"Did you... blow up the food?" I curl myself into a small ball, surrounding the pained area.

"Every last bit," She swallows.

"You have to win.."

I tried to move, but I couldn't. The pain was now moving from my tummy to my lungs, as I struggle to breathe. Before I die, I want one last request.

"S-sin-sing..." I whisper. I want to die in a calm nature. Please, Katniss, from the looks of it, you don't like songs or singing, but please, sing. Sing for me.

"Deep in the meadows..." She sang, her voice wobbly. Still, her voice was the only peaceful thing left. It was truly what I wanted.

I try to ignore the fact that I'm slowly losing life. Instead, I stare up at the green leaves that reflected the sunlight. The light blue sky, and the sun that constantly got into my eyes.

"A soft green pillow..."

I felt the pain starting to fade. This was is.

The images of my parent's faces just haunt me, and I push it away. Instead, I focus on the other things, like... the goodbyes.

Bye, District 11.

I love you all, Mom, Dad, Brothers and Sisters. I love you so much, if any of you were reaped, I would volunteer for you. Just like Katniss.

Katniss.

Bye, Katniss. Thank you for taking me as you ally, even if it was only for a short amount of time. That was my greatest part of the games. I even got a whole leg to myself.

And suddenly, I couldn't feel anything more. The pain has faded, but not my thoughts.

And please, let Katniss win the games. It would mean so much, even if I was dead. Because she will do justice for me, for all the children died from the past games. I know she will. I can feel it.

I think of all the other things I will never be able to do. It was truly saddening, but I have to accept this fate.

The lights started to flare, and the colours soon turned to dots with colours, and were glowing. It was changing though. All the colours turned paler, and paler and paler. Blurrier.

"Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true,"

My vision has turned white; I can't feel anything, nor see, smell anything. I could only hear.

Katniss takes a deep breath before quavering the last line of the song.

"Here is the place where I love you,"
