I hike up the stairs, hardly stable in my four-inch heels.
I use my spare hand to straighten the tight grey pencil skirt that surrounded me from my waist to my knees. My other hand held a tablet that included all my slides to show the Manager for Logical Knowledge Association Board. They really could've just called it 'school', but as a supportive intern looking for a promotion, I probably should not say that kind of things in front of them.
I ran over the simple plan in my mind. I created a full-fulling information about the complication and, or the dilemma, the solution, and the budget. Pretty basic. It shouldn't be hard at all.
Clutching the tablet tighter than ever, I push the wide glass doors open. I step into the cool room. Thank God for that, I was melting from the heat. Plus, my eye makeup was going to smudge.
"Welcome, to the Educational Board." Said a man. Wow, what a lame name. Someone must've made that without trying. "Will you please have a seat, and may I check you in?" He pointed the row of plastic chairs by the wall. I trot towards it.
"Scarlett Lockhart, about to meet with the Logical Knowledge Association Board Manager in about-" I clicked the tablet on to check the time. "Five minutes."
The man nodded as he noted it down on a piece of paper. I sat myself down on one of the scruffy chairs and rummage through my tablet, preparing the slides. Suddenly, a loud, direct gurgle came through. Shoot, it was my stomach, as I had to leave early to come here. Of course, knowing me, and with my kind of luck, I overslept and didn't have a chance even grab a granola bar, even less likely to eat breakfast.
"Um, excuse me, please, sweetheart, could you please real quick, fix me a fresh cup of coffee?" I called out to the man who took my name. He noticed me asking and walked over to me.
"Wouldn't you like to have a cup of coffee, darling," He smirked and sat next to me. I raised my eyebrows amusedly.
"Uh, yes, please, that's why I asked," I shot back. "I didn't have breakfast to come to this meeting," I explained, "And the meeting with the Manager for Logical Knowledge Association Board starts in like, three minutes, so would you please brew me a cup real quick? Thanks."
He put one hand to his chin, thinking of a comeback. Before he could, so, I butted in, again. "And please mind the personal space," I moved a space to the left, repelling away from him.
"Sorry about that, miss." He chuckled, standing back up, and walking back to his notes. What a bad worker.
Nope, I was not going to let him get away with it.
I walked over to him, putting my elbow on the stand, leaning my face on it. He stares at me.
"Yes?" He smiles, but clearly with a hint of annoyance.
"Darling," I say, mimicking him. "Please make me a cup of coffee. It's really not that hard. And as I said, I'm in a hurry, as I say, again, for the third time, I have a meeting with the Manager for Logical Knowledge Association Board, in less than a minute. Thank you, sweetheart," I say with obvious blunt.
"Sweetheart," He mimicked back, sneering. "I don't think you quite understand. That's not my job. After all, I am the Manager for Logical Knowledge Association Board."
Of course he is.
