Pure Beauty pt. 2

A hush fell over the crowd as they all looked as Navy collapsed right on top of Ultimatum's mane, electricity literally crackling through the air as Ultimatum stared at Navy's wide open eyes staring off into the distance.

A thousand thoughts raced through Ultimatum's head.

This can't be real, it's impossible, I swore to her that I would never kill another with my mane again, this can't be happening, and it wasn't just anyone, it was him.

Ultimatum allowed a tear to slip from his eye, rolling through his fur. The salty drops of regret wouldn't stop, once the barricade had opened, it wouldn't close, all the pent up tears from over the years flowed freely in front of the entire Purtle population.

"Hey, what's happening?" Navy rolled off of Ultimatum, and looked at the crowd, he tried to stand, but Navy's back right leg buckled underneath him and he yelped in pain.

"M-My back leg, it hurts so bad," Navy whimpered. He couldn't get a good view of it, but the crowd could, the leg was broken at a stomach wrenching angle, the bone sticking out of the skin and blood creeping slowly down his leg.

"What's happening, is it bad? It feels like it, it hurts so much, what's wrong" Navy was frantic now, twisting his head at painful angles to see it, but no matter what, he couldn't get the perfect view.

Everyone was confused, Navy wasn't dead, he should've been electrocuted immediately on Ultimatums mane, but what were they supposed to feel, happy that he was alive? But his leg...

Wisp glided through the crowd, shyly asking people to step to the side.

"Navy, it's all ok, there's nothing to worry about, I can fix it easily, just lay on your left side and let me look at it properly." Her smile was gentle and reassuring, and Navy lay on his side, placing his leg on the ground with extreme care.

"I-I can feel blood, what's wrong?" Navy said, panic evident in his voice as he saw the gaping crowd staring at his snapped leg and the shards of bone shoving up through it.

Wisp gave the crowd a glare when Navy wasn't looking, and they composed their faces. "They were just surprised that you survived, I don't think you know, but you landed right in Ultimatum's mane, and your ankle twisted beneath you when you fell, the skin tore a little, but not much, that's why it's bleeding," Wisp explained in a soft soothing voice, examining the leg with expert eyes.

"Oh, I'm alive? And it's ok, everything's ok." Navy looked at Ultimatum from the corner of his eye, Ultimatum still hadn't moved, the flow of tears had finally stopped, but he lay there unmoved, he was oblivious to the world, still believing that Navy was dead. He heard, saw, and felt nothing.

"Hey, focus on that rock, it's really smooth and pretty right?" Wisp asked, Navy listening though he was a little doubtful of Wisp's attention span for a moment.

Then there was pain, searing hot, unimaginable pain, it coursed through his entire body and pulsed horribly everywhere, the pain was so immense, so terrible. The crowd backed up as Navy emitted an eerie sound that was too high pitched to hear, but it was there, in the Purtle's ears, ringing silently, it was unnatural and the crowd whipped their heads around with grunts of discomfort.

"Hmm, shouldn't have hurt that much, must be the after-effects of, you know, touching a usually deadly object," Wisp casually stated, asking someone to bring her some medical wrap and a stick.

A doubtful rainbow Purtle turned around and sped off, swiftly gathering the supplies and bringing them back to Wisp, and a straight flat stick, a roll of medical tape, and some thyme was placed into Wisp's paws.

"Thyme calms, and cures shock and pain, good thinking." Wisp winked at the Purtle who blushed and slunk back into the crowd.

"Here you go, eat this" Wisp pushed the frond of thyme in front of Navy, who was still delirious but managed to lick up the leaves that tasted faintly of mint tea.

Navy flinched in pain as Wisp wrapped the stick, which she had snapped in two, on either side of Navy's leg, and with the medicine and splint, Navy began to feel a bit better, but a faint throbbing still encased his leg.

By this time Purtles had gathered all around Ultimatum, curious if the blank stare and shallow breathing meant he was dead.

"Back away please," Wisp ordered calmly as the crowd parted. Ultimatums eye's were glassed over and he stared into the distance as if he was in an entirely different world.

I promised I promised I promised I promised I promised I promised I promised I promised I promised —

The exact same words raced through his mind over and over again as he lay on his side.

"Umi, Umi he's ok, wake up he's alive," Wisp murmured softly, stroking his fur with one paw but being careful to not touch his mane.

"He touched it, he's dead." Flashes of his parents' soundless screams as blood trickled out of their mouths and eyes raced through Ultimatum's brain.

And then the light, the pure beauty of the light astonished him, she was the most amazing thing he'd ever seen.

"Hey, I'm right here." Navy's voice jerked Ultimatum out of his memory and he looked up at Navy.

"Oh my gods! You're ok! How? Are you hurt? What happened to your leg?" A rush of questions came from Ultimatum's mouth, he was confused and all this was strange but he didn't care, Navy was alive.

"Yeah man I'm just fine, I just hurt my leg a little," Navy fought to keep the quiver from his voice and wondered why he wasn't angry right now, he was supposed to hate Ultimatum.

Wisp gave a disapproving look at the crowd and nodded for the two overwhelmed Purtles to follow her.

"Come on, this way," she whispered, escaping the crowd and slinking into the woods quietly.

They came upon a clearing and Wisp nodded. "This will do, I think you guys need some time to talk, so I'll be going." She stood up and raced off into the woods before the two could say a word, and they were left on the mossy earth alone together.

"S-so, you think I can touch it?" Navy said awkwardly, not knowing what to think, after that whole epidemic, he felt different towards Ultimatum, it must've been the way he looked, so lost, when he was laying on the ground.

"I don't know, I don't know anything anymo-" Ultimatum stopped in the middle of a sentence.

"If you swear this to me, the day will come when one will see more than your mane and your unbridled reign, he will look and see your pain, be patient my small one, my child of many, for one day he will come, and you can be happy."

Ultimatum suddenly hugged Navy, twining his tail with his and getting him to touch his mane.

And nothing happened.

Navy didn't care, and Ultimatum cried, Navy was touching his mane, and he was just fine.

Navy was confused a little, for he had never loved another who loved him back, but it turned out to work just fine, the two were perfect together.

And after that day, Ultimatum would creep out of his lover's paws and race up to the surface, bow his head, and thank her, he was the only one who knew, who saw.

He had seen pure beauty, he had seen her.
