In a world where everyone's fate was literally written on their wrist, life was a mix of anxiety and curiosity. For most people, the words on their wrist were straightforward: "car accident," "heart attack," "old age." But for Lily, it was different. Her wrist bore the name of an animal: "Dodo."

Growing up, Lily had always been fascinated by her unique mark. The dodo had been extinct for centuries, so she felt a strange sense of invincibility. Her friends joked that she was immortal, and Lily played along, enjoying the attention.

One day, while scrolling through her social media feed, Lily stumbled upon a headline that made her heart skip a beat: "Scientists Successfully Clone Dodo Bird." She stared at the screen, her mind racing. Could this mean her fate was back on the table?

Determined to find out more, Lily booked a flight to the research facility where the dodo was being kept. Upon arrival, she was greeted by Dr. Thompson, the lead scientist.

"Welcome, Miss Lily," Dr. Thompson said, shaking her hand. "I understand you have a special interest in our dodo."

Lily nodded, trying to keep her composure. "Yes, you could say that."

Dr. Thompson led her to a large enclosure where the dodo was waddling around, pecking at the ground. It looked exactly like the pictures Lily had seen in books—plump, with a large beak and tiny wings.

"Isn't she magnificent?" Dr. Thompson said, beaming with pride.

Lily forced a smile. "Yes, she is. But, um, how secure is this enclosure?"

Dr. Thompson chuckled. "Don't worry, Miss Lily. The dodo is perfectly safe here. There's no way she can escape."

Lily wasn't convinced. She spent the next few days at the facility, keeping a close eye on the dodo. She even started to bond with the bird, feeding it and talking to it like an old friend.

One night, as Lily was about to leave, she heard a commotion. Rushing to the enclosure, she saw that the dodo had somehow managed to break free. Panic set in as she realized the bird was heading straight for her.

"Stay back!" Lily shouted, but the dodo seemed determined.

In a moment of sheer desperation, Lily grabbed a nearby broom and started waving it around, trying to shoo the bird away. The dodo, however, was unfazed. It pecked at the broom, then at Lily's shoes, and finally, it looked up at her with what she could only describe as a mischievous glint in its eye.

"Seriously?" Lily muttered. "This is how I go out? Death by dodo?"

Just as the bird was about to peck her ankle, Dr. Thompson and his team arrived, capturing the dodo and securing it back in its enclosure.

"Are you alright, Miss Lily?" Dr. Thompson asked, concern etched on his face.

Lily nodded, her heart still racing. "Yeah, I think so. But I need to know—how did it escape?"

Dr. Thompson sighed. "It seems one of the interns forgot to lock the gate properly. I assure you, it won't happen again."

Lily took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. "Good. Because I don't think I can handle another close encounter with my supposed killer."

As she left the facility, Lily couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. She had faced her fate and lived to tell the tale. And while the dodo might still be out there, she knew she wouldn't let it dictate her life.

From that day on, Lily embraced her unique mark with a newfound sense of humor. She even got a tattoo of a dodo on her other wrist, a reminder that sometimes, the things we fear the most can turn out to be the most ridiculous.
