Safe and Sound
It was Sunday the night before homecoming week. It was a night like any other. The star filled sky was as black as death, the sliver of a moon like a small tear in fabric. There was no wind and no clouds. Jacob was in his room by his desk, doing homework. It was one of those assignments that was due the next day and he was doing it the night before. But he had confidence that he can get it done fast and good. As he was putting the final touches to the project his parents walk in.
"What's up kiddo?" his dad asked.
"Nothing much. Why?" Jacob responded.
"Well because me and your mom noticed that you are working hard and wanted to make sure that you aren't working yourself to death."
"I'm fine," said Jacob, "just a few more things and I will head to bed."
After they left, he went to bed and feel into a deep sleep. As he slept in another part of town there was an arising problem with kids going missing then coming home the next night like nothing happened. When they were questions, they said I was always home.
Monday morning Jacob went into school with a worried mind. Though he didn't know why he was so worried. The school looked slightly different to him, instead of the clear light, it had a tant of red and black. Especially around the new kid. He just arrived a few nights ago and already has a bad reputation. But other than that school was normal and went by pretty fast. As Jacob got to his locker, he noticed that he had a letter.
He opened it to read it but all it said was Safe. That's weird, he thought. But that was all he thought about the note. This was until it kept happing throughout the week. The same note kept appearing in his locker. With the same word Safe. This was until Friday rolled around. The note had two more word on it: Safe and Sound.
This made Jacob a little creeped out. he also noticed that there was this smell in the air, he can't describe it, but it smelt like human flesh was dying. It was horrible. But he passed it by as the janitor not cleaning right and went home. He had to get ready for his date to the dance the next day. So, he went to bed early. But outside his window the kid was watching him sleep. He was the perfect vessel of pain and sorrow. The kid's plan was working, and it was working well.
The morning came before any noticed, the town was silent like death was just there. Jacob woke up and stretched ready for the night ahead. He was going to have so much fun and so was his date. He had the courage to ask out his crush and she had said yes. For most of the day Jacob was getting ready for the dance. He was feeling pretty great, and he thought nothing could ruin his mood. Though it was weird that there was not the normal sound of cares at all.
He went and picked up his date. It was going well until he noticed that she wasn't eating anything. This to him seemed really weird because this girl loved food. Then there was that smell again.
At the school the new kid was getting everyone else ready for the arrival of Jacob, which they had decided was the prince of life. this prince must see death and decay. It was going to be glories and disgusting at the same time. The clock had hit exactly 10:00 p.m. when Jacob and his date showed up. The whole thing was going to plan. Everything is going to be spectacular and great for the kid.
About an hour in Jacob noticed that there was an ere feeling in the air and the decaying flesh smell was so strong it made Jacob a little queasy. He decided to go sit down for a while. Well in that moment the veil fell, and the truth was reviled. All around Jacob was the dead, decaying, bloody bodies of former classmates and teachers. There were also the adults in the back. Their blood was spread and dried on the floor of the gym, and it was true horror. But that is not the end of it. for at the very end of the gym there stood a chair made up of human bones and the bodies that weren't at the dance lied at the base. Sitting upon this chair was the new kid. The kid behind it all and all he said was "safe and sound."
