The forest was a calming place at night. Not many people would agree though. For it was a thick forest that was full of life. The trees where always green, the animals never attacked humans because they had all the food that they needed. The smell of fresh pine and berries always lingered.

There was one person that was always in the forest. Her favorite spot was by this lake. It was not easy to find, which made it the perfect place to relax. It had shiny clear blue water with many species of fish. The rocks looked polished and bright. The trees sawed in the wind like dancers. The sky was always clear in this little place. It was magical.

She found this place when she was on a hike with her friends. She had fell over a root sticking out of the ground. As she stumbled down the hill, they were climbing she feel right into the water. That was when she decided to make this her place.

When her friends asked her where she was, she said half the truth. That she fell and landed in a brush. That was all she needed to tell them. Now she was there relaxing in the moonlight. Sitting on a flat rock that overlooked the lake.

Why can't every night be like this one? So calm and relaxing. So, refreshing. She thought.

Suddenly there was a loud CRACK. Like someone stepped on a twig. It startled her. She didn't want to be found out here. It was dangerous enough not telling anyone where she was going, let alone into the woods. She looked franticly around for a hiding spot.

Crunch, Crack.

The noise was coming closer. So, in her hurry she jumped into the lake. As she swam, she found a cave that had enough room between the roof and the water to let her breath and a clear view of the surface of the water while still hiding her.

After ten minutes of waiting there was a creature that came into view. It was strange form where she could see it, it was about 6 foot tall, black like a shadow, red glowing eyes. There was no mouth though. It was looking around as if it was sniffing the air for something.

As soon as it appeared it disappeared. So, she came out of the cave and ran home. Once she reached her house, she saw the creature again. This time it was closer and there was in fact a mouth.

Lives are in danger. Save them. Save them. Save them. Save them.

It spoke to her. This can't be right. Can it? Her mother was waiting for her when she got inside.

"Where have you been, Lacie?" Mother stated

"I was taking a walk mom. Nothing too bad." Lacie lied

"Well, while you were out did you happen to come across a creature from the woods?"

"What creature? I just walked around the block. Nothing strange was going on." She lied again.

"We shall she about that one. But the creature was spotted 15 minutes ago walking into the woods. No one knows what it is but be careful. There is no more going for a walk young lady. Especially now."

"Yes Ma'am. I understand."

Lacie clearly didn't want her mother knowing that she indeed was faced to face with the creature. Not the fact that she was in the woods. But why didn't her mother comment on the fact that Lacie was soaked. What was really going on? And why was it so easy to lie about where she was and what happed? She never lied that easily before. What is that creature to have her mother so concerned?
