The Truth Hurts (original story)

The dust settled against the concrete, rubble littered the empty street. Grunting softly the hero pushed himself up, blood running down his dark face. His platinum hair the only sign of color within the darkness, he stood shakily as his body was aching in pain. His eyes darted from building to building, few lights were on, but several shadows watched him. Footsteps broke him out of his trance, his head whipped towards the person. His heart sunk as a man in all black was walking towards him, without thinking he tried to fly away. But suddenly a force wrapped itself around his wrists, he was slammed into a nearby wall, hanging by invisible chains. He coughed weakly, blood dripping down his chin.

"My my, I've never seen you in such a condition." The man smirked softly, his purple eyes gleaming from the little light coming from the apartment windows. The hero glared at him weakly before letting his head hang in defeat.

"I may not have beaten you today, b-but I'm sure I have enough strength to try again another time..!" A laugh trickled down the heroes spine, the man was obviously amused.

"Next time? Do you truly believe there will be a next time? Look around you, you've lost, and what hope these people had for you is gone. Give up, or our little cycle will continue." He stepped closer, the heels of his boots crushing pebbles beneath him.

"I-I won't stop- I can't! I'm a hero! It's my job to fight you, and stop you from hurting the city!" Suddenly a rod of metal shot towards him, he flinched harshly, it missed his neck by an inch. The villain was suddenly closer to him, inches from his face.

"You're such a fool, you're so naive you don't even realize what's going on. Tell me, who destroyed this street? Who threw cars across the sky? Who here has the ability to create a tornado that took out two buildings and killed hundreds of people? Tell me!" The villain was suddenly yelling in his face, the questions overwhelming his fuzzy memory.

"I-I- I didn't mean too- I didn't hurt anyone! Y-you're lying! T-the tornado didn't- I-" The hero stuttered and skipped over his words, unable to find a response to prove his innocence. The villain's smirk reappeared, he stepped back and chuckled softly.

"So naive, how can such a powerful young man like yourself be so stupid? I'll let you in on the reality of our situation, you are the destroyer here. It is your fault this city is struggling, you are the one to blame. I've been trying to stop you, not the other way around. But you can take that thought to your grave, as you aren't needed anymore." The ground began to shake, the wall the hero was attached too began to crumble against him. He couldn't move, he tried but his hands were bound, his heart was racing as the rubble began to fall around him. The villain slowly floated away, never looking back as the building engulfed the hero.
