Rakshit didn't know how to react when a girl came out of nowhere claiming him to be her soulmate. "Excuse me, who are you?"
She looked up at him, her hands never leaving his shoulders, "I'm your soulmate as you are mine!" She chuckled placing a kiss on his cheek then instantly biting her tongue, "Ops! I guess I'm being too clingy in the starting" she blushed, scratching her head while Rakshit was deep in his thoughts that were concerned about her, like who she was etc etc. To his surprise this girl hugged him once again without thinking anything, he met her just once but still had a kind of attraction towards her.
"I think you should take him to his room Drishti, he must rest for some time" concern mixed with fear for the girl was audible in Romi's voice. The girl, Drishti had a different history from everyone here. She had dreamt of true love ever since she saw people finding their soulmates here and getting free to enter another dimension of a similar to the one from where everyone came. But she hath only heard stories about that, never got a chance to visit except the side where she could roam during full moon once every five years.
"Yeah sure, I just forgot" she slapped her head and slipped her hand into Rakshit's without leaving him any time to react. "Let's go, love" she pulled him harshly, causing him to stumble over his step, making everyone giggle at her. It was after a long time that she had been this happy.
The palace was dark, only a little amount of light able to enter, just enough to make everything visible for the day never rose. Moonlight was the only thing that made this world light up. The moon was comparatively bigger in size, stars were greater in number and both if them shone much brightly creating a light blue and white scenario.
"You're so slow" she ran with his hand intertwined with and never stopped giggling in between. It was a surprise for him that how could a person be laughing all this time just because he met a stranger, a stranger who himself found solace in her smile.
"What was your name? Hah, Drishti. Stop!" He stopped in his tracks pulling her hand from his. Even if he never left a person who would be showing him such affection, in this new world he was not yet ready to believe in anything.
"My name sounds wonderful from your mouth. Hah! I'm really romantic, that's freakin awesome" she praised herself along with giving herself a pat on her back then looking back at him.
"Where am I exactly? What's going on? And most importantly, *sigh* who are you" he asked her.
"Dumbo I'm your soulmate!" She huffed, massaging her temples, precisely frustrated as she had repeatedly called him her soulmate and he was still asking her the same question. Rakshit made a weird face and looked at her again.
"I met you, like a few minutes ago" he exclaimed but Drishti only sighed taking his hand leading him into a room.
The room was basically larger than any room Rakshit had ever seen in his life. Themed black and grey with a tint of glitter, it was the best suited for a girl as the items describes but both a girl and a guy could live there, making a few changes. The bed was king sized, circle in shape with a black net hanging around it from the ceiling, white sheets and black matching blacket too. The room was no normal room for sure. As the other side was limited to this magnanimous castle only, the people had this privilege to turn their rooms into any scene they wanted, but that too was limited inside the four walls.
"Liked it?" She looked at him holding her hands at her back and leaning back and forth against the wall.
"Yeah, but it's-"
"Ours!" She squealed in joy "I mean till tonight when you'll accept me, we'll get intimate and boom! next day leave this darn side and start our new life in the other dimension happily!" She clapped her hands together but Rakshit was in a shock, what was she talking about.
"Ok hold on, what intimate and what accept. Tonight?" He cursed his mind for thinking the other way but still he wanted confirm as he had a feeling that somewhere he was thinking the right thing.
"Oh, tonight. We'll do something something, you know. That obvious people do, yeah I don't know much about it but legend says it all. Whenever I ask someone what happens, they are like you'll get to know. And I'm like damn dude! What's your problem in a bit explanation? I would not want to make a fool out of myself" she sighed dramatically, leaving Rakshit in shock. "Rest for now, we'll start later on!" He grabbed her shoulders as she was about to go and pulled her towards him.
"Woah, hold on girl. I barely know you and you want something to happen between us, that too tonight. Ok it's night still and according to Romi it's always night but anyways, this is the fact, nothing is going to happen" he tried to make her understand but she didn't want him to continue.
"What do you mean? You're my soulmate and we'll be one soon" she spoke, more serious than she was earlier. Her giggles were gone but not her smile. Even if Rakshit felt attracted too he wasn't going to allow himself to any such thing to a stranger that he just met.
"Nothing will happen Drishti. We just met. Do you say this to everyone who comes? A person comes, you go to him and say tonight something will happen and all that shit?" Confusion was all over his thoughts but he decided to stay calm for that time.
"No Rakshit. We're meant to be one. You're meant to take me with you across the portals to my new life, our new life" she smiled at him faintly. At this point of time he was actually frustrated at the same thing being repeated over and over again.
"Can't you get it? I don't know you and I'll never ever do anything with you!" He literally yelled at her grabbing her shoulders and shaking her. "Are you insane"
"I'm not. And you're joking right?" Her eyes held hope as she looked at him. A part of him didn't want to deny her but another which was still not able to face the existential crisis till now grew more frustrated than before.
"Nothing's gonna happen, you get that?!" He yelled pushing her away. She stumbled at her steps and froze near the wall. A few tears trickled down her face as she looked at the man whom she had been waiting for since the past one year. She had waited for this night so long and today she was denied of it.
"But Rakshit, I've waited for this since the past one year when I saw you. I was waiting when you'll come here. I love you Rakshit. Look, I even dressed up for you" Rakshit was startled at the sudden confession. Never had he imagined a girl confessing to him when she only saw him once.
"What are you saying?" He knew not how to react at this.
"I was waiting for you for so long! Why don't you simply accept me and then we will-" he knew where was taking it again and speaking of it, he was frustrated at this now.
"Don't say a word about spending a night. You say you love me, then explain me why you wanted me dead! You're being selfish, this is not love"
When he saw the tears that were now flowing down her neck through her cheeks, he instantly regretted what he said. He was never a person who would break someone's feelings but this time he did.
"I-I" she stammered but couldn't form a word. There was a period of prolonged silence that prevailed in the room before she ran out of the room crying.
He tried to go behind her but once he reached the door he bumped with Romi who had just seen her running outside while crying. Romi looked at him helplessly and signaled him to follow.
"She wanted it to be quick, didn't she?" asked Romi once they settled down at the couch while Rakshit's whole attention was towards Drishti.
"You mean to say that you knew?" Romi simply nodded his head. "Why? Why was she so, so-"
"Impatient about it?" Asked Romi to which now Rakshit nodded. Romi sighed and stared the explanations.
"She's different. Unlike everyone here she wasn't brought here by accident or anything. She was born here, and she was considered an abomination for this world" Romi ran a hand through his hairs and rubbed his face to pull down the level of stress he had when he remembered what things she had undergone.
"She was born here?"
"Yeah, people aren't allowed to be together in that way, in this side. When they find their soulmates they simple enter one of the portals to another world for a new life. Her parents broke the rules and she was born. Divya and I came here when she was five. She stopped aging once she was 24. Her parents disappeared into thin air leaving her at the mercy of everyone here who typically hated her for being born here. Life wasn't easy for her Rakshit. For those years she was hated by everyone here and felt different until everyone of that time left the place with their soulamtes. Divya who is my soulmate ever since before the accident and I had spent about 100 years here meaning she's about 95 now. Being different, she was only allowed to enter the other side once in every five years
The legends say that she'll be free only when her true soulmate comes here in this world and accepts her with love. That made her so desperate to leave this world as soon as possible. Divya and I had raised her when she was just a child. Everytime she would hear stories about how beautiful the outer world looks like she would get desperate to visit it. Even she wants to feel the sun, she wants someone like we all have. You're attracted towards her as well, right?" Rakshit simoly nodded his head.
"And what about the legend. Why me?"
"There's never an answer to why you're his soulmate. This is the way this world works. You are attracted by each other's souls and then you know. Call it destiny or whatever"
"Legend? Please" now Rakshit was desperately waiting for the legend part to come up.
"Legend says that she'll be free only when you two, you know, something something happens for she was born of love and to escape she had to need love to complete her. And to leave this place it had to be the night of the full moon that is today or you'll have to wait for another year. It would be okay to her but she's a good heart Rakshit. She does not want Divya and I to spend another day here. Besides if we went on separate ways we'll enter separate dimensions and there are high chances that we'll forget each other but that feeling of emptiness will persist. She knows we'll never leave her but she was too desperate to leave this world soon that she left the part of explaining everything. Now it's to you. She'll be in the basement near the fountain if you want to meet her"
Romi got up from his seat and left Rakshit alone his thoughts. He was still not able to get it in his mind. It was all new for him but he was having thid insatiable feeling of guilt and hurt in his heart each time her crying face appeared in front of his eyes. He had to make a move fast if he wanted to put her miseries to an end.
Finally he decided what he would do.
On the other side Drishti was sitting on the floor resting her head on the concrete if the fountain circumference, crying her heart out. All her dreams were shattered at this time when he said nothing would ever happen between them. She regretted pushing him to this extent so soon.
Amidst the silent sobs she felt a hand on her round. When she turned around she found Rakshit on his knees in front of her. "Mind if we talk?" She nodded her head in a no and cleaned her tears, bowing her head she gathered her gown that was creating a look alike circle of enchantment around her. He sat near her and held her hands between his.
"I don't know how to say this. It's all so sudden for me, I just met you and-"
"It's okay Rakshit. I had just been a little too desperate to get out from this place. I take it, you can have some time but please don't hate me" she sighed, coming close to him and placing her head on his shoulder.
"I don't hate you, but I can't say that I love you either" he made her look at him by grabbing her chin gently and kissing her forehead. "But I'm your soulmate and I'll never want to see you sad. So if this is that much important to you then" he smiled at her while she tilted her head in confusion.
"No, you don't have to"
"Look Drishti, I feel attracted towards you and Romi says this is how you find yoru soulmate here. I don't love you today but I'll love you tomorrow or maybe the day after that. If today we do it, we'll be free tomorrow, then we'll make our own life in the new dimension. The four of us, and just think I'll have that time to know you and then fall in love with that part of you"
She was taken back by his words. He wanted to give this a shot. For once she thought that she had got her expectations a little too high but thr next she had her soulmate beside her to stand by her. And now Divya and Romi will also be free after being here for a freaking whole century. "Really?" She smiled at him while he nodded.
She chuckled and wrapped her hands around his neck when he picked her in bridal style carrying her all the way to her room. The few people that saw them passed them loving smiles, especially a girl who stood with Romi, making Rakshit come to the conclusion that he must be Divya, from the way that Romi had his arm around her.
They both entered the room and Rakshit placed her on the bed and locked the door before lying down beside her. She whispered something and the surroundings near them changed into a pleasnat one with cool gusts of wind blowing everywhere. Roses and other shining white lilies around them, the grass as fresh with a few dew drops on it. The bright moon that seemed to sing them to sleep.
"You're ready?" He asked her while she nodded laying back on the ground after opening her back zip and feeling the coolness of the water droplets. Rakshit kissed her forehead and looked towards her, smiling at her everytime she would turn her blushing face away.
The night went on and on, both of them mever getting enough of each other. At the end they wrapped themselves in a blanket and snuggled closer to each other feeling each other and the softness of the roses that laid below them.
She woke up in the morning that was again dark as usual and found Rakshit sleeping near her. Her hairs were messy as hell so she ran a hand inside them pulling them to the front leaving hef back bare when she was pulled back, colliding with Rakshit's chest.
"We'll leave soon. Let's have some rest first na! I'm tired" He compalined pulling her more into him making her chuckle.
...
One Fine Morning
"These lazy brats would never get up! Oh what would I do of them!" Yelled Romi grabbing Drishti and Divya by their ears. Yesterday night they had been into a fight with their husbands over a job placement for a bank rober.
It had been eight years that they had entered this dimension. They had been blessed with a house to live in a fairly good amount of money to go on for some time. Rakshit, Romi and Divya's knowledge helped them in building a career. Rakshit and Romi managed their own business of fashion that was now a brand with Divya the main designer and Drishti as a model.
"I don't know about you but this Drishti is actually too lazy!" Compalined Rakshit. Many a times they would be fighting with each other over whose wife was more useless and lazy.
"Oh yeah, you say it cuz you don't love me!" She yelled at him.
"I say 'I love you' to you like every day starting from the month after we came but no! You'll have to do this! Over acting!"
"Whatever!" She scoffed and pushed him taking Divya along with him for making the breakfast. Romi and Rakshit looked at each other and made an angry face.
"See! Your idea of calling them lazy backfired!"
"Dude you did that to yourself, don't blame me" spoke Romi.
And like this their life went smoothly with all the bickering, chaos and love.
