We Will Rock You || Humans Are Space Orcs Prompt
Prompt: "What if there some species of aliens who focused around more music, not in same way as humans but they use it as a way to settle disputes. It's not because they can't fight which they can extremely well, they just prefer not to." - toxicspacedust on Tumblr
This was it. The first, and hopefully last battle.
The generals wanted this over quickly. We couldn't waste time in a war, not when we're in the middle of an age of innovation.
Around me were my comrades, each wearing the white and blue colors of the United Nations as stripes among our camouflage. Each one of us held our standard-issue energy blasters, ready to fight.
In front of us was a line of our enemies. The Zirdaaki soldiers held strange weapons, things we have never seen before. There were cylindrical boxes, and sticks with a flat end, but the strangest thing was that most of them were... unarmed.
Then some of the soldiers stepped forward, each holding those strange boxes. I counted fifteen, but more could've been advancing further away from my squadron. They sat, and placed these weapons on the ground.
Then they started to drum. It was a fast tempo, accented by five more of the soldiers slamming the ground with their sticks.
Three unarmed Zirdaaki soldiers stepped forwards.
Then they started to sing. It was a beautiful tune, truly, and I wish I had taken the time to learn their language to know what the song meant.
I was surprised by this show, and after looking at my comrades, I realized none of us had expected this group of soldiers to burst into song.
My best friend, Rafe, shrugged, holstered his weapon, then began to stomp his feet and clap his hands with an "I guess this is the fight they want." Around me, human soldiers caught on, beginning to keep tempo until our footsteps thundered and our claps shook the sky.
Then, our voices reaching to the heavens, we sang. We sang a song centuries-old, yet was inscribed in the hearts and brains of every human.
And in our song, we told the aliens "we will rock you".
Our performance must have intimidated them because the Zirdaaki soldiers stopped their music quickly after our singing began. There was a chorus of shouts in their language, which I assumed was the order to retreat judging by how quickly soon after the Zirdaaki fled.
A few days after that battle, we started negotiations for peace. Their only request?
To "never sing that terrifying song to us again".
