The Meteorite
This story was written in 2017, for another one of those 'literary nights' like Shattered was for. We had to write a short story to prove we could write, so their time wasn't completely wasted. Kinda harsh, if I think about it. Anyway! Like I said, this was written two years ago, and it's complete trash! Heh... pun that none of you would understand... I mean, you will once you read this... You can hate on this all you want, but I see it as an improvement on my writing skills. I have no idea what inspired me to write this... probably pollution actually. Anyway, enjoy the 2017 Moon's writing 'skill'.
This town is a mess. There is so much rubbish that the already dying grass seems like its wearing a tattered blanket. The oceans and lakes are dried up so much that you can wade through to other countries. This is past the state of global warming, it's as if the end of the world. I navigate myself through the dump that is our world, remembering what my father had said. He and the few scientists of the world had predicted a meteorite to hit within twenty-four hours, but no-one would listen. No-one ever did. I reach my house, noticing the shattered windows and the snapped fence palings. Our yard is like any other, dark and dull, not a single speck of colour. I reach out and turn the door knob, which falls out and into my hand. I sigh, before pushing the door open. I wish this world wasn't like this.
I trudge up the stairs, forgetting about the broken fourth step and falling through, trapping my foot. I manage to free myself and continue to climb the rest of the way to my room. My room, like any other in this town, is plain and boring. I lay down on my rickety bed and listen to the now familiar creak of the old springs. I close my eyes and try to remember a time before, a time where the world was green and fresh, not a single piece of rubbish to be found. No one knows how or what changed, and no one ever dares speak of the days past.
Suddenly, I hear a loud crash! My eyes snap open as I roll off the bed and run to the window. Pulling apart the dust-laden curtains, I see a rock the size of a skyscraper, just inside the town line. This must be the meteorite the scientists tried to warn us about! As I stare in wonder, the meteorite starts emitting a green glow that seems to be moving. After that, nothing appears to happen, so I tug the curtains close and shuffle back into bed, closing my eyes.
Hours later I am awoken by a loud banging, followed by my mother shrieking. My fear rising, I want to go to run to her, knowing that she is extremely timid, when I hear it. A voice, deep and menacing.
"Take her to the machine!" The voice shouts. I don't know what to do except hide. I crawl under the bed and close my eyes, as I hear someone on the stairs.
"Stay calm, Luna, stay calm." I whisper to myself. From my hiding place, I hear the door to my room being kicked down! I open my eyes and see... hang on. I-I think my eyes are playing tricks on me. Standing in my room with evil expressions are two human sized pieces of rubbish! An empty coke bottle and a lolly wrapper, both with arms and legs! They creep around the room, clearly looking for something, until they stumble upon my hiding place.
"You're coming with us." The coke bottle looks at me with eyes as green as the meteor.
The coke and lolly wrapper take me hostage and drag me across the bland ground, crawling with now lively rubbish. I listen as others scream and thrash about, trying to break away from the grip of the rubbish. I just stay calm, telling myself that nothing bad would happen. The ground is scraping my back, my hair gathering up dust and dirt. One person escapes from the grip of the rubbish, but immediately gets shot by a green laser and is blown to a million pieces. Everyone looses it. They thrash about and scream louder than before, I hear a few younger kids crying. My heart is in my throat, but I manage to stay calm. I look towards where we are being dragged, and I see a strange portal. We enter the portal and fall through the other side.
I open my eyes and gasp. There, standing bravely and proud, is a machine more terrifying than any in our world. There is a conveyer belt, followed by a glass cube with many blades. The conveyer belt continued, to another glass cube, which has two giant hands, squishing and folding. There then is an opaque box with many buttons and levers. At the end of the conveyer belt, there are many solid cubes, all in an unevenly stacked pile. My attention is taken suddenly off the confusion of the machine, as I am being shoved towards it. I am shoved on, and a strange feeling overwhelms me. The machine turns on, and I head straight for the blades. I can't move. I can't call for help. Centimetres away from the sharp, unforgiving blades, I forget about being calm. But it is too late for anything.
OMG I can't believe I'm going to publish this, for half of Wattpad to see...
