Kara Hargrove start across from her long time kindergarten crush, Thomas Holmes. She nervously pushed her short curled bob out of her face and behind her eat as she crossed her legs as her foot tapped the title floors of the In & Out Diner that had been there for over 50 years.

This was their first date, she couldn't have been more thrilled to have him ask her out a few weeks before prom. The timing was a bit awful, but hey, she didn't care, the boy who held her heart asked her out on a date how could she say no? This was a dream come true.

She had put on her favorite pink silk dress. The reason she liked it was because of the peplum hid her upper tights which she was all to self continue about continuous. It was a halter top, so she had no worries when it came to bending down and seeing down her chest. She choose silver flats since they wouldn't hurt her feet.

Her father was iffy about his youngest daughter going out in a date. She couldn't help but feel bad for Thomas, her father had given him the shake down, heaven knows what was said to the young boy to make him look like a cowering cat pinned in a corner.

He did happen to use his title a little too much when it came to her friends or boys, which kinda embarrassed her a bit. Yes he knew how to use a gun and all, she never thought he would actually use it against anyone she knew. She had good judgement. Everyone knew that.

Thomas on the other hand was internally freaking out. Ran a hand through his qwaft brown hair, stopping himself from chewing on the inside of his lip by sipping on his strawberry milkshake. The diner was owned by his family, what was better than free food and a whole diner to yourself?

When he asked her he hoped she wouldn't take him seriously and though he was just joking. Of course she didn't think he was joking, she immediately said yes and that freaked him out a bit. Why would the beautiful valedictorian be so excited for him to ask her out on a date? He was the only tuba guy on band, nothing spectacular.

He tugged on his black tie that matched his slacks. He unbuttoned one button on his red shirt because he was feeling like passing out. So much anxiety about his first date with an amazing girl such as Kara. Yes it had gone so far so well, who knows what could happen next. The unknown scared him.

Kara leaned back in her chair uncrossing her legs. "This has been a really nice date. I see you had put a lot of work into this hadn't you?" She spoke softly as if she wanted no one else to hear, and yet of course there was no one else there so it was fickle to keep her voice down.

Thomas looked up at her and smiled, pushing his plate onto the middle of the table. "I had put a lot of thought into this. You deserve nothing but the best, and I knew this would be something your father would agree for a first date. I don't want to make him upset." He said in a nervous way.

Kara let out a small giggle as she pushed her hair behind her ear. "Oh Thomas, just because my father is chief of police doesn't mean anything. He is all talk and no action, he wouldn't want to embarrass me." She mused softly, swirling her straw around her milkshake.

Thomas sheepishly smiled, his eyes darting to the table. "He is your father, he is quite protective of his youngest daughter." He pointed out, all to nervous how what would happen if he messed up. If he was in his shoes he wouldn't go light on the boy either.

Kara shook her head and gave a soft laugh. "He may be protective of me, but that doesn't mean he will always be this way. I get I am his baby, he doesn't have to treat me like one. I have made better decisions than my older sisters, which says a lot." She sighed softly resting her hand in her cheek.

Thomas eyes' almost magnetically gravitated to her's. "That you have, and you have made him proud with all you have done. In speaking, have you picked out a college yet? I heard so many are trying to get you." He was happy she was wanted by so many colleges.

Kara sighed slouching in her chair a bit, pushing up her empty glass cup her milkshake was in. "I haven't. I want to be close to home, and you if we are still gonna keep seeing each other. Long distance relationships never really work out unless you have known the person a long time and were friends before dating." She pointed out with a light blush on her cheeks.

Thomas blushed as well, adverting his gaze to the floor. "It could work with us, after all, you are the only girl I would want to date - not rushing anything by the way. I am just kinds making a suggestion." He rambled on feeling like he was embarrassing himself.

Kara found him adorable in this moment. "I know what you meant, no need to be so nervous. There is nothing you can do to embarrass or make me mad, I know you're not that type of boy." She reached over the table and placed her hand on top of his.

Thomas looked over to their hands and he took her hand in his, lacing his fingers together with hers. "That is very flattering of you to say Kara, I am quite honored you think that. I do hope that stays true for a very long time, perhaps as long as I live?" He slowly looked up at her, his words were oh so true.

Kara's eyes lit up as he spoke those words, oh how she adored hearing them. "Yes. The same goes with me to you. I just hope I can be the best possible maybe girlfriend to you if it gets to that point. Because I really like you." She exclaimed then sheepishly looked away at her little out burst.

Thomas gave a slight smile at her actions, she was way too cute for her  own good. "I really like you too -" He cut himself off as he looked down at his watch. "Oh dear, we better be getting you home. Nine is going to be here in half an hour! I promised to have you back before that." He panicked letting go of her hand and standing up.

Kara withdrew her hand and looked up at the poor boy. "Thomas, it takes ten minutes to get to my house in your car, there is no need to rush for an extra ten." She explained in a gentle voice reaching over and taking his hand in her own.

Thomas looked over at her and stepped closer, grabbing her other hand and pulling her up to her feet. "I want to show your father I respect time and will never go past, plus if we have car trouble I can have him pick you up way before the time we get there or better yet I can walk you there which is an extra five minutes!"

Kara let go of one of his hands and cupped his cheek in it. "Slow down and take a deep breath. If you wish to leave now we can. We can say out goodbyes in the driveway while my dad watches if you must." She gave in knowing from his point of view he just wanted to please her father.

Thomas nodded his head rapidly with bright eyes. "Yes. Alright, now come on my dear." He pulled her close to his side as he pulled out his keys. "Thanks mom, be back after I drop her off to help you close up!" He called to the back where his mother was at.

His mother, from the back room, called back to confirm what he had just said was okay. "Alright Thomas, please be back soon. Your father can only take so much go fish with your sister before he goes insane." Her voice was slightly amused but also slightly serious.

Thomas walked her out of the diner and over to his 1978 Chevy Truck he had personally rebuilt and couldn't have been more prouder of. He opened the passenger side door after unlocking it and helping her in. "There you go Kara. Buckle up." He kissed hee cheek before closing her door and getting in.

Kara buckled up, she was glad he had out safety belts in this truck. It also made her father feel more comfortable about him taking her places. "I always buckle up Thomas, it is against the law not too." She stuck her tongue out at him playfully.

Thomas chuckled buckling himself up before putting the keys in the ignition and starting it up. "It is second nature wherever someone is in here. I say it to everyone, especially my grandfather who has a hard time wanting to put it on." He mused looking behind him as he pulled out.

Kara set her purse on her lap and rested her hands on top her purse. "Have you heard back from any of the colleges you applied for?" She asked curiously. She felt bad he hadn't heard back from any of them and she had a dozen just waiting for her.

Thomas sighed, blowing his hair from his face and shaking his head. "Not yet. I am sure they are just busy with all those who applied. I am sure I will hear from them in the next few days. Besides, I'm in no rush for college, gotta finish the rest of the semester first and fingers crossed I hope I pass." He pulled out onto the main road.

Kara glanced over at him and smiled softly. "I know you can do it. You are very smart and don't give yourself enough credit." She rested her hand on top of his shoulder. She has faith that he could do this because she had known him for years ,just recently they became close.

As Thomas pulled up to a fourway stop, he turned his head to look over at her. It really did make him feel better to hear her be so encouraging to him. "Thank you, that, that really means a lot to me! I don't get a lot of support at home." He admitted.

Kara pushed her hair behind her ear and frowned softly at his words. "You're parents don't support you?" She asked as if it was foreign and unheard of, that it never happened. She couldn't believe he had no support whatever about anything he did.

Thomas shook his head as he gently pressed on the gas going through. "No, dad is always drinking and mom spends all her time acting like a teen again." He admitted, then paused before adding. "You are the only one I have ever told this too please don't tell anyone."

Kara crossed her finger over her heart. "I would never tell no one. You told me this in confidence and I will respect that. I feel very honored for you telling me this." She couldn't help but feel touched that he felt okay to tell her. She could cry right now but she wouldn't.

Thomas stopped at stop sign and looked both ways before glancing over at her. "You are really a sweet girl Kara." He truly meant all his words. He was so glad to be spending time such as a date with a girl he thought hung the moon.

In that moment as he began to go through the intersection was when their whole life would change forever.

A driver of a moving truck has fallen asleep at the wheel for a brief moment, and slammed right into Thomas's side of his truck. That jolted the driver awake and he had no idea what happened so he kept on going and drove away not releasing what he had just caused.

Thomas hasn't been able to react ot say anything. He heard the crunch of metal, the pull force of the pressure of the moving truck ramming into his side glass shattering that was all he could tell before his world went black.

Kara let out a scream as she felt the all the shards of glass hitting her as the car flipped over at least twice. The panic she was feeling that she was going to die so young. It stopped by slamming her door into a poll of a power line.

Her vision was burry, her head throbbing, she could feel blood running down the side of her head and dropping onto her shoulder. She tried to move but she was unable to do so since her seatbelt had locked up on her. She was feeling like she was in a tunning swishing back and forth.

It took a few moments for her to glance over at Thomas ignoring the pain her neck was in. "T-Thomas?" She managed to get out slowly lifting her arm up and resting it on his shoulder. "Thomas are you alright?" She whispered softly.

Once her vision came in she saw his head lying on the steering wheel, the airbag was just covered in blood. "Thomas!" She screamed as she began to sob gently pushing his check back so she could see his face. "Thomas wake up!"

From the side she was on she couldn't see the damage of his other side of his face. It was a good thing because no one would want to see that managed, bloody and glass embedded side of his face. "Thomas wake up, please wake up, please, please wake up!" She screamed.

Tears ran down her cheek, stinging the cuts she had on her face, blood mixing with them making a red trail. She could hear people talking outside and the sound of an a emergency vehicle in the distance but she blocked it all out focusing on Thomas.

She couldn't imagine life without him, this was their first date, they had many more to go on. She unlocked her seatbelt, ignoring the pain she was feeling on her side she scooted over to him. "Oh Thomas." She sobbed holding him close.

She sniffled reaching up and moving his blood soaked hair from his face. "Please don't die on me, I don't want you to leave me. Please stay with me, please don't go." She sobbed burying her head in his shoulder, wrapping her arms around his one uninjured arm. "Please stay with me."

She knew deep down he probably wasn't going to make it his shirt was soaked with blood. She just felt him slipping away, she could just tell no matter how much he was fighting with the blood loss it would be useless. That made her sob only more hugging his arm tighter.

She glanced over at the blood moon rising up from behind the tree time. Oh how ironic. "Curse you blood moon." It was a omen or at least a sign to her about what had happened. She wasn't a superstitious person or anything, but this did get her thinking. Bad things happen on blood moons at least that was what she thought.

The EMTs had to pry her away from Thomas as he got him out and loaded him onto a stretcher. Seeing them take him away and knowing this may be the the last time she would see him. "Thomas I love you!" She screamed tears falling as the EMTs worked to get her out.

Oh how she would hate to see her father and his reaction to this whole mess. It was odd because they weren't that far from her house. She could hear her mother's hysterical voice and how angry her father was since his voice was booming as they made their way over to her.

She looked up at the blurry image of her father, feeling him take her hand and her mother resting her hand on top of her father's. "D-Dad, M-Mom, I-I love you s-so much." She choked out with her sobbing before passing out due to the shock her body was in.

The next time she opened her eyes she was in the hospital room, her parents beside her bed and a nurse hanging up a new blood bag. "Mom - Dad." She softly spoke, her voice sounding raspy as she blinked a few times. "Where, where is Thomas? Is he okay?"

Her father face her a sad look on his face as he took ahold of his daughter's hand. "I am sorry Kara, the doctors won't think he will make it." He hated to say this to his daughter but she had a right too know. Plus Thomas was a good kid.

Kara shook her head, not believing his words as tears dripped down her cheeks. "No! He can't - he has to make! I can't lose him." She sobbed knowing there would be no more dates, no chance at kissing him, no chance of getting into the same college of him graduating, of them going to prom together.

She felt as of her whole world was crashing down. Why did this have to happen to her? What did she do to deserve this? Her whole life was changed because of some stupid driver. How was she suppose to move on know? Time would only tell.
