Dorothy's Nightmare Come True

As they followed the yellow brick road to Oz, Tinman and Scarecrow had a realization. Dear Dorothy has both a functioning brain and a beating heart. All they needed to do was to take them from her. The question was how to ditch that stupid, scaredy cat of a lion. They figured the best way to rid themselves of the coward was to do what scarecrows do best and scare. Hiding behind trees and boulders jumping out at the lion every chance he got. The poor lion, finally, he had had enough of their antics and ran back home to his den.

"That wasn't very nice, you know." Dorothy scolded Scarecrow.

"You're right. We should turn back and get him so I can apologize. I do believe his den is here off the red brick road." Scarecrow claimed.

Convinced that her newfound friends were being truthful. Dorothy agreed, and they started to head down the red brick road. As they walked, she noticed that it was getting darker and creepier the further they got.

"It's not hard to see why the lion has no courage; this place is terrifying!" Dorothy exclaimed.

"Ah, yes, but if only he did live this way, don't you think?" Tinman taunted, resting his hand upon his ax.

"What do you mean? Scarecrow said he lives down here," She said, glancing to his hand in confusion.

"I may have no brain, but even I can tell a convincing lie." He laughed, pulling a knife from his pocket.

"Why is that funny? What are you doing?" She asked, backing up.

"Because..." Scarecrow crooned at her."You have what we want most. And we intend to take them."

At this point, Dorothy had backed herself to a tree in fear of the two beings that have accompanied her thus far. Looking between the two, she realized what he meant. She began shaking her head frantically.

"No! You're my friends! We're meant to be getting these things from the wizard!"

They laughed at her. "You stupid, little girl. Don't you know it's not wise to trust strangers? You're all alone in a strange land, so very far away from home, and you know nothing of this place nor its inhabitants." Tinman lifted his ax and swung.

Dorothy ducked and tried to run only to have a tree root trip her. She attempted to crawl to the nearest tree only to have one of her ankles grabbed and get drug back to her offenders.

"Please, please, don't do this! I just want to go home! I want to see Auntie Em again!"

The Tinman sighed at her tears and swung the ax down onto her neck, severing her head from her body. Picking it up, he glanced at the scarecrow.

"You need help getting her brain out in one piece?" He asked him.

"You get my brain, and I'll get your heart." Scarecrow said, cutting open her abdomen.

"Deal," Tinman pealed the skin from her skull. He tapped hard enough to break the bone and not pierce the brain, turning the head as he went. Opening it almost as if it were a can and he the can opener.

Scarecrow tried but didn't have the strength to get her rib cage open. He improvised and started pulling her guts out through the opening he created. Slowly and carefully, he pulled her lungs out, then finally her heart. Looking up, he saw her brain finally exposed.

"Alright, now how do I get you open?" Scarecrow asked.

"You open this latch here," He gestured to a hinged door on his back.

Scarecrow walked around Tinman and opened him up. Looking around the gears, he came to a space in his chest that had nothing there. Gently, he maneuvered his way through the mechanics of the Tinman and placed his new heart where it was to rest.

"Feel any different?" He asked

"No, I don't, but let's give it a minute. Sit still, and I can get your brain in that head of yours." Tinman responded.

Scarecrow unstitched his hat from his head and took it off. He pulled out some straw before leaning forward. Tinman placed the brain into the hollowed head, threw some straw over it, and began to stitch the hat back on.

"What about you? Do you feel any different?" Tinman questioned.

"I don't feel any different. I think this was a waste of time." Scarecrow sighed, looking around at the mess they made. "Think we could put her back together?"

"We can't; she's dead, and her brain definitely isn't doing anything for you if you think that we can fix her." Tinman reprimanded. "The only thing we can do is try and find the wizard. He can still help us."

Agreeing, he and Scarecrow buried her remains and left. Wandering, they tried to find the yellow brick road. Little did they know, the moment Dorothy died was the moment it completely vanished.

Never again would enchanted beings be able to find Oz. The atrocities of two ruined it for all else. For eternity, they and the others like them would wander aimlessly through the forest, hoping to stumble across the great land known as Oz.

The end
