Zombie Apocalypse
The end must have started long before we'd even left Singapore. For the last three hours, from the moment we touched down in New York to now, we'd watched the world unravel through our phones. I was terrified. We all were. But, it only got worse when the pilots said we couldn't disembark until we had the all-clear. Most were happy, but others wanted out.
The attendants did well with keeping the people calm and ensuring that no one got too rowdy. One even slugged a man when he refused to sit down. They weren't taking any chances that someone got infected or lured out anything. We still weren't even sure if the bodies on the ground were "alive" still and most sane people didn't want to take the chance.
The question was: why didn't someone cancel the flight? Were we deliberately led here for some reason? Was there a group of survivors here and if they were, why hadn't they made contact yet?
When the little girl sitting beside me tapped me on the shoulder I looked over to her frightful face. She looked like she wanted to curl up and cry in a corner. "Big sister… the - they're…" I looked to where she was pointing out the window. Sure enough, there were some people walking onto the tarmac. They weren't stumbling like the things on the news broadcasts. They must have been human still. But, the things laying on the tarmac certainly weren't.
From the corner of my eye, I watched as one of the attendants walked up to the cockpit for a moment. Something was going on.
Turning my gaze back to the tarmac, it looked like the people were able to dispatch the cannibalistic monsters. Were these people the ones in charge here.
My gaze moved to the front of the plane as the attendant stood to address us. "The people down there have cleared the tarmac for us. Shortly we will all disembark and be brought inside the airport…" she looked uneasy as people slowly begin to realize what was happening. Yelling ensued, crying seemed to rise above it all, worry begin to boil into pure fear.
If the tarmac was covered in the dead who were obviously just playing dead as they waited for their next meal, then how safe we're we? Were these people even supposed to be here? Were they military operatives waiting to take our plane for themselves?
I hugged the little girl sitting next to me tighter as the attendants instructed us to stand up. It was only the youngest and able-bodied who were to leave at least right now. We were more scared than anything.
I walked down after my sister. My hand still tightly gripped in hers as we marched down to the large military vehicle waiting for us. Now that we weren't so far away, most of the people were obviously soldiers. Just what awaited us once we walked into the airport?
