Roswell Military Academy
Roswell Military Academy. It hadn’t been older than maybe a few years prior to the second magic. And for the people in the world, it was the only source of civilization not severely impacted by the chaos that spread across the land. And yet, it allowed only men into the academy, women were not permitted to join other than being cooks or janitors. But, Ashley Marcov was not going to be deterred.
Looking down at her last photo with her father, she sighed. She was only five in the photo, while her father was around twenty-seven. A smile present on both of their faces as they looked towards the camera. It was the only time she had ever seen her father in the camo military gear. The last time too. He died sometime after the chaos broke out during the second magic.
The young secretary stood, giving a smile as he watched the last cadet come out with a relieved sigh. “Your turn Mr. Marcov, good luck,” the male spoke as his eyes watched her sluggishly walk into the room, a knowing look in his eyes.
Giving a small nod, she entered through the large door. A tight-lipped smile presents on her features as she shambled off towards the desk in the center of the room. The man sitting behind it facing away from her. “Ash Marcov, son of David Marcov… who do you think you're kidding, kid?”
The man stood from his seat, stalking over to the young woman. “You know,” He said as he came to stand right in front of her. His blue eyes glared down into her hazel ones. “Just because you got a haircut and made your voice deeper doesn't change a thing, Ashley.” The man spoke as he clapped a hand down on her shoulder, a small smile on his face.
“How,” Ashley spoke, her eyes wide as she wondered what had truly given it away. She had managed to fool so many… so how had she failed?
“See,” The man started off, “You neglected to realize that a few people who knew your dad worked here… we all know he had only one kid. A daughter.”
Her ruse had been found and she would likely be kicked from the program before she even started. She had waited years for this, and here she was. “I’m sorry - OW!”
She rubbed the back of her head, looking up to the man with a glare. “You didn’t let me finish.” He spoke, “But, the few of us here would look the other way if you chose to stay.”
“What really… wait, what’s the catch,”
The man chuckled as he found himself moving back to his seat. “You’ll find out soon, but for now your roommate will show you around… Jefferson.” At the man’s call came the boy from earlier, a grin on his features.
“Well, let's go, Ash?” The male said, dragging her away from the smiling man.
