They called Grian rich.

They also called her a boy.

Turns out, she didn't care. She actually liked being called a boy far more than being called a girl, just like how she liked having really short hair far more than having any kind of long hair.

So he/him it was.

Well, they called him rich. He knew it was true; none of the other six-year-olds here in Japan wore makeup. None of them had gone on a plane before, at least not on their own.

He didn't like being rich.

Most of the other kids' parents cared about them. They weren't rich. Either his parents didn't like him, or that's just how all rich parents were.

Plus, he was friends with Taurtis. And Dom. Neither of them had money. Why did Grian have so much if there were people who didn't have any? And why did the adults not care about the kids that need them?

Maybe all adults were that useless.

Sam's dad seemed to be, with his terrible advice. At least Stanley acknowledged his son, though.

Did Taurtis have parents? He didn't know.

Dom's dad was another story. Yeah, Dom was acknowledged, but in a bad way. Grian liked talking to Dom. He was never sure if he should call Dom a girl or a boy, though. Was there something in between? All the grown-ups call him a girl, all the kids call him a boy. Grian had no clue why. Maybe Dom liked being a boy even though he was a girl, like Grian?

Oh, and Grian did not have a butler. That was a stupid joke Sam made. Sam's kind of stupid. Maybe it's just because he's only five. He could have a butler if he wanted, though.

He did not want a butler.

He doesn't want anything that makes him look rich.

He doesn't want to be rich.

He'd rather be... nice!

Rich people are not nice.

They're greedy and they do not need all that money.

Money solves all problems and they obviously have no problems, so they don't need money.

The older Grian got, the more he realized this was true.

The rich have all the money and have no problems while the poor have no money and have all the problems.

Maybe this wasn't true for some people.

It wasn't for him.

But it was true for most.
