Seto was an Oracle.

It was like everybody knew that.

They whispered everywhere he went, about how he had stopped coming battles and predicted the fall of the Squids.

Even after serving the Sky Kingdom for eleven years now, ever since he was twelve years old, they still couldn't get over him and his power.

Sorcerers were common.

Demigods were highly rare, but not unheard of.

But only two other Oracles have ever appeared before Seto, and he was sick of it.

No one really understood what amounts control an Oracle had to exhibit.

Not only could Oracles see the future, they were incredibly powerful sorcerers as well. Magic could be easily summoned, and they could use it with even less effort, if they had enough control.

Seto did not have enough control.

Most freakishly powerful sorcerers found solace in their sleep, where dreams would not be hindered by unintended magical exploits. But Seto, and all other Oracles, didn't have that. No, they were bombarded with visions of the future if they were to follow one path or another.

Seto began dreading having to sleep. He was tangled in webs every time he shut his eyes. Webs explaining what action would lead to what event in what future.

So he stopped.

Stopped sleeping.

He knew it was unhealthy, but he didn't want to subject himself to maddening nightmares of tragedy and disaster. Didn't want to see futures he couldn't help.

Nobody noticed until his struggles until it was too late.

When he started seeing unwanted destinies in everyone he met.

When he started seeking extreme solitude for days at a time.

When his power started growing, and with it, his will for death.
