2. I Hate Valentines Day
(re-post)
So basically, I- wait nah, I should say this dramatically like telling a prophecy in all those cool movies. (I want to be cool too ;-;) Okay. Listen up.
Madelyn hated valentine's day. Ever since that incident that happened one and a half years ago. This year, she's planning to stay at home and binge watch youtube videos. As her close friend, Gabriel, needs her help and advice to help him ask a girl out, she immediately takes the chance to ruin Gabriel's plans and prevent the heartbreak she predicts will happen to her friend, if she doesn't interfere.
But is spoiling someone's date that easy? No. Trust me, I'm a doctor- wrong line.
And will she slowly begin to realize the goodness of valentine's day again? Maybe. Well, probably not.

Valentine's day. Ugh. You know, like when you always get excited over your birthday, then during the actual day, you're just like awkwardly not feeling special at all? This is how I feel. Except I already wasn't looking forward for Valentine's day.
It's not that bad. A voice in my head said. And that was not true. It reminded me of that day. It's worse than you think. Honestly.
"Hey Madelyn!" I turned my head to see Gabriel coming.
"Hey Gabriel!" I grinned at him. "What's up?" I said. Gabriel came to my home to hang out, since we had nothing better to do on the day before doomsday. Well, Valentine's day.
"Well..." Gabriel murmured, turning pink. "I think I really like..." He turned and stared at me. I gulped. Is he going to freaking propose to me or something?
"Avery." Never mind. "And I want to.." He continued. "...I want to-"
"Can you stop pausing so much? Just spit it out!" I said, annoyed already. "I really really really want you to help me ask her out!" He blabbered.
"..." I laughed. "You just told me to 'help you ask her out'? What if she dates me instead then?" I grinned, and he rolled his eyes. "You know I didn't mean it that way... but I can still kind of imagine you two marrying." I cringed at the thought. "So," He said hopefully. "Can you help me?"
"Nope." I said immediately.
"Pleeeeeeeease?" He said, using his puppy dog eyes on me. "I said no. So that means no." I said firmly. He was going to have his heart broken anyways. Avery was quite a popular girl for being cruel; Gabriel definitely didn't have a chance.
Wait. A thought came into my mind. What if I ruined the date for him, then he wouldn't get into a bad situation from the beginning!
Pretending to give up, I stared at him with fake bored eyes. "Fine, if I do it, you'll stop bugging me?"
"Yes!" Gabriel grinned.

"So first thing first, you're going to have to bring flowers." I commanded Gabriel. "Do not buy her roses though. Avery likes roses. I thought. I like roses. I pushed the thought out of my mind.
"Why?" Gabriel said. "Don't girls think roses are romantic?"
"You WILL NOT buy roses!" I said, pursing my lips, racking my brain for ideas. "Avery is, umm, allergic to roses."
"Okay then!" Gabriel said, smiling.
We walked to the flower store and began trying to pick flowers. Soon Gabriel came up with a bouquet of carnations, tulips and daisies. I frowned, and took my phone out, searching flowers you should never give to anyone.
We ended up with a type of flower called butterfly weeds. They were silly orange flowers, which had a bland scent and even the name was hilariously pathetic.
I decided the next thing to do was to bombard him with false tips, and it was harder than I thought. When you go on a date with a girl, always pull their chair out for them. "Remember, if you are at a dining area, immediately sit down on your chair, before she does, or she would get annoyed waiting for you. If she makes a face even after you sit down, it probably means you were too slow." I improvised on the spot.
Just be yourself, the girl probably would like you more if you were naturally you. "Look, Gabriel, I understand and like your personality, but Avery probably wouldn't appreciate it that much. You need to create a new personality." I said. Avery likes the confident type. "You should play the shy and cute type of personality, because she likes that."
"Also, ask her out to meet in a time like 6:00 AM, because, um, she has a lot of busy activities so she needs to meet early!" Avery would be late for the date because she would wake up too late, as expected.
"Be sure to buy her a card without any hearts, because she thinks they're too girly. instead, buy her a cat card! She loves them!" I said, while we were walking to the card store. She was a dog person, who thought heart shapes were extremely sweet.
I picked up a card, and waved it at Gabriel. "How about this one?" There was an imprinted photo of a not-at-all cute cat, a grumpy gray tabby with angry eyes and a nose pressed into its face. I was a dog person too, so i would have absolutely hated it if I received any of these things.
As we walked home, I continued to bombard Gabriel with fake tips. That night, I slept easily, and somehow, managed to be excited for valentine's day. Not to celebrate it, but to ruin it.

I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock squawking in my ears. I moved my hand to the desk, feeling for the alarm clock, but instead came hand to hand contact with something plastic. Huh?
I sat up, blinking and rubbing my eyes, and saw a bouquet of flowers at my bedside. How sweet. I instantly thought, but shook my head. Looking again I noticed that they were the bouquet of flowers I bought with Gabriel, the butterfly weeds. I realized that Gabriel decided not to bring those to the date, and I guess, left it with me.
Wait. Gabriel. OH RIGHT! THE PRANK! I literally screamed in my mind, as I remembered what I was excited for last night. I hurtled down the stairs, grinning crazily, not even remembering to wear my bunny slippers.
As I went to the kitchen table to pour some cereal, I noticed a card lying on the table. A picture of an ugly puffy monstrous cat with yellowish fur was on the front page, and I frowned. It was even worse than the one I got for Avery.
Hi Madelyn,
Happy Valentine's Day!
From:
Who it was from was left blank. Hmm. I thought. Is this some kind of sick joke?
Going out of the kitchen, I nearly dropped my bowl of cereal as I saw that Gabriel was sitting there, with a very delicious looking cake on the table.
And that's when I realized. The flowers, the card, the cake. Gabriel didn't like Avery. Avery was never his type. Instead, he was basically asking me what I wanted for valentine's day by asking me to help give advice.
My plan was an epic backfire.
"I know this is weird." Gabriel said. "Since we're friends. But we've been friends for a very long time, and I really started to like you. Madelyn, will you be my girlfriend?" He said.
I blinked once. Blinked twice. My eyes widened as I finally processed the information.
Then I opened my mouth and said: "HELL NO!"
