1. Summer Dream

(re-post)

Being the Snow Queen's daughter isn't easy. It isn't just some fun Frozen movie where Elsa is happy with dramatic sentimental moments at the end.

My name is Luna. And this is the last summer I'll ever see in ten years.

--

Gosh dang it, my life sucks.

I packed my bag, sighing. Looking outside the window, I tried to memorize the view of the summer beach and store it in my head. Giving up on packing, I walked outside, barefoot. I was wearing a flowy white summer dress. Yes, summer dress. The outfit I'll never be able to use for ten freaking years as its horrifically cold back in my home. I shiver at the thought of being there again. Ha ha.

Running near the ocean, I was about to step in the water, but instantly I remembered what I would do and I stopped myself, not before the tip of my toe touched the water, causing a wave about the size of my palm to freeze solid.

Backing away, I walked along the shoreline, careful not to make contact with the water. My feet sank in the warm sand. It felt great. Luckily, it was only water that I would freeze under contact without will, or I'd never be able to feel warmth. Turning back, I realized that the sand was pretty humid, so therefore my footsteps were printed on the ground with a thin frosted outline. I laughed, but my wide grin soon turned to a frown.

"LUNA!" A person yelled, and I instantly recognized the voice. It was Alaina, my best friend, who was the daughter of a respected guard in my kingdom. At first, my mother just intended for us to play when we were kids, but soon we grew a strong friendship, so mom let us hang out with each other even now.

"Hey Alaina." I said, already expecting what she was going to tell me. "We have to go home now, Luna." Alaina sulked. At least I wasn't the only one who was upset. But Alaina got to come every year for five days. She was lucky. I had to go 'help with the global warming issue.' But for ten years without break? That was torture!

"Look, I know you won't be able to see it in ten years, but there's one thing you could do, is at least remember it? I know! Want to take a selfie?" Alaina said, making me smile at last.

After taking the picture, I obediently went back to the hut to take my luggage. However, a servant with pretty icicle earrings already beat me there, packing everything for me. "I really wish that this holiday would have been longer, right Alaina?" I paused, anticipating her reply, but only silence greeted me back. "Alaina?" Turning around, I saw that Alaina ran back to the beach, digging sand into a bucket, to enjoy the last moments of summer, I guess.

"Your Majesty?" The servant asked.

I glanced at her. "Yes?"

"You get to stay twenty more minutes, your mother says."

"Then what about Alaina?"

"Lady Alaina has to leave five minutes later, due to her tight schedule to prepare something, uh, some kind of secret project related to her father, I think." Looking back at Alaina's direction, I saw that the bucket she was digging sand with was left on the shore and I caught a glimpse of her frolicking in the water, enjoying her last moments of summer. Unlike me, she could touch water.

Thinking about the fact I couldn't see and feel this lovely summer day and the beach for the next ten years, I started feeling overwhelmed. I wasn't that much of a crybaby, as I could actually keep my tears in, but I was one very sensitive girl with a weak heart, that wanted to bawl at every little thing. Don't judge. My vision went blurry with tears, but I tilted my head up and blinked them away.

"I have to go early! Bye Luna!" Alaina sounded extremely excited to leave for some reason, even though she was sulking a minute ago. Maybe some other servant once again bribed her with food. That may or may not have happened a few times.

"Bye..?"

Gosh dang it. Time passes too fast. This was already the end of my summer vacation. Bye bye, summer, for ten years. Just as we were reaching my cab to drive me back to the ice palace, someone stood in the way, her hand on the car door, blocking it. I was looking down, but I already recognized who it was by the glittery golden stilletoes.

I scowled, raising my head to look at the person's face. "Out of the way, Brianna."

"Oh," Brianna, daughter of the Spring Queen said, smirking. "Sorry, I didn't see you there. I thought that I was just walking past a fallen ice cream scoop. Until I noticed it was you, that is." I rolled my eyes.

It wasn't fair. No matter how cruel, how annoying Brianna was, everyone else would only seem to see the myth of the wicked Snow Queen hurting the beloved Spring Highness. Ugh.

She flicked her fake blonde hair, which was literally solid with hair gel and other disgusting things. "Well, old woman?" She taunted. My brown hair had natural white highlights , but I didn't really mind, because it actually looked kind of nice with my tan.

I gave her a plastic smile. "I recently walked past the trash can. It must have been you who left all the hair gel bottles, right?" Even though she kept her smirk, a flash of anger appeared in her eyes.

"What were you doing at the trash can? Rummaging through my properties? How lowly of you. But I do appreciate your liking of my trash, Luuuuuna." She drawled. I clenched my fists, but calmed down.

"Don't worry, I wasn't taking our the trash. In fact, I was about to call Solaria because of your littering. Isn't it bad for the plants? Ironic, right?" Solaria was, you could probably guess by the name, heir to the Summer throne, who also loathed Brianna, but was the eldest, which is a very respected girl. Or woman. I mean like, who doesn't hate Brianna?

"Well, at least I could say goodbye to your ugly face for ten years." That sentence hit the right button, and it felt like a punch in the gut.

"Honestly, I would hurt you, but that would be animal abuse, right, my little spring flower?" I said, my anger boiling.

Brianna stepped closer. "Why, you-"

"Oh, thanks for moving." Shoving Brianna sideways, I went the car myself. Looking out of the window, I saw her stomping in anger, causing the trees near her to wither under her plant magic.

But thanks to Brianna, she got me thinking of my ten year ice palace detention. Well, technically not detention, but it still was as bad as detention. In fact, worse.

I rolled my eyes. I was not looking forward to this.

That was it. I was home. Standing right in front of my bedroom door. Back in the winter palace.

For some odd reason, the servant standing in front of my door, who happened to be the one with the pretty icicle earrings, was grinning from ear to ear, smiling like a maniac.

I sighed.

Then I opened the door. I have no words for what I saw.

...

"SURPRISE!!!" Alaina and the servant at the door yelled. My whole room, decorated summer style! The walls were covered with a vibrant realistic beach wallpaper, and the floor had a layer of glass, but under it was sand, covered in pretty shells! At one corner, there was a small waterfall, and my bed was decorated to look like palm tree leaves.

I covered my mouth, overwhelmed. "Guys... you didn't have to-"

"Oh, by the way, sorry, we actually tried to install some kind of heater for a summer wind effect, which was Savvy's idea;" She said, gesturing at the servant with the icicle earrings. "However, after that we realized that the problem wasn't the heater melting the ice, but the ice freezing the heater." Savvy laughed. "So, I'm sorry that this was all we could do before you got here."

"It's okay! In fact, I love it!"

That was probably why Alaina was leaving early, and digging sand... I grinned and hugged Alaina.

It didn't matter if there wasn't a heater machine. Because if I closed my eyes, I could just imagine the calming summer breeze...

Bonus

Quite far from Luna's kingdom, in a forever dying land between the Summer Palace and the Winter Palace, stood the forgotten autumn throne.

True to its name, the area was eternally in an autumn state, with dull brown leaves lying lifelessly on the ground, not a creature to be seen. But even from miles away, anyone could hear the crunching of the footsteps treading through the forest.

A young girl with beautiful silver hair that glimmered even in the darkness walked alone through the forest.

"Raina!" Someone called her name. Just by speaking her drastic name, rain began to pour. Many people didn't know this, as autumn was always unnoticed, that rain occurred very often in the season.

The person who called her name immediately took out an umbrella, yet the silver haired girl, Raina, just stood there, letting the droplets stain her blood red dress. She jerked her head toward the person who called her name.

"Uh- sorry, I meant... Your Majesty." The person stuttered, lifting her head to reveal to be a girl of the similar age.

"You know I don't care what you call me. I'm a forgotten princess after all. Possibly queen, since my father died." Raina laughed bitterly. "So the Ice Queen is already solved?"

"Yes. I already added poison to both the queen and the princess's meals." The girl holding the umbrella said, with a satisfied smile on her face.

"Ah. Just the Spring Queen left before I can attack. And they will pay for forgetting me. For labeling autumn to be the dull, lifeless time of the year, where there is nothing but rain. And labeling me, as the death bringer of the forest." Raina seethed. "So I, no, we will bring death to the world in return." She looked toward the girl again. "Isn't that right, Alaina?"
