That precious person

Part 1: Ami

"And then you add this here and... Usagi-chan, are you listening?" Ami looked up from the book when there was no answer.

Usagi hadn't even heard the question, as she was fast asleep, resting her head on her arms and drooling all over the table.

"Usagi-chan!" Ami said a bit more firmly than she had intended. Sheesh, Usagi had asked her to help with her homework while they waited for the others to show up at their usual table in Crown Fruit Parlor and now she wasn't even listening.

"I wasn't sleeping, Haruna-sensei," Usagi jerked up and launched into an explanation, "I was just...Uh..." She looked around, puzzled. "Oh, Ami-chan, I had a terrible dream that Haruna-sensei was yelling at me for sleeping in the class and..."

Ami couldn't help chuckling. Usagi-chan was just something else. But nobody could remain angry with her, nor do anything but love her. There simply was something in Usagi-chan that was unique to her. That gentle presence. That ability to make friends with anybody. And that desire to believe the best of everyone.

"Huh? Did I say something funny?"

"No, not at all. I'm sorry." Ami stopped laughing, although she was still smiling. "Now, let's continue with this problem, shall we?" she asked, adjusting the book on the table so that both could read it at the same time.

Usagi's face fell. "Ami-chan, I just can't study any more today..." she whined, then suddenly brightened up. "Let's go to Crown Game Center instead!"

"We can't, Usagi-chan," Ami reminded her, "We're supposed to meet the others here."

"That's alright. You worry too much, Ami-chan," Usagi said, waving her hand dismissively before packing all her books and notes and other school stuff several times faster than she had unpacked them. "Let's go!"

"But..."

"Unazuki-san!" Usagi called to the waitress girl, "When my friends come here, tell them we're waiting in your brother's game center, okay?" Then, without really waiting for an answer, she dragged Ami out of the door.

Ami didn't have much choice but to follow, but in the end she smiled again.

'You can be so irresponsible, Usagi-chan. Still, thank you. You showed me how much more than studying there is in life. You're my first and best friend. I'll make sure to help and protect you whenever I can. Forever.'

Part 2: Rei

The five sailor soldiers of inner solar system had once again gathered at Hikawa shrine to discuss how to best stop the enemy's plans. Although right now they weren't so focused on work, instead enjoying some tea and the cookies Makoto had baked earlier.

Rei sipped her tea calmly, letting her thoughts wander. Eventually they settled on Usagi – like they always did. The Moon Princess. The 'invincible' Sailor Moon. And yet...a clumsy crybaby. 'I just can't leave you alone, can I?' she thought with a faint smile. 'Because, no matter how much we fight, you still need me. And I need you.'

Setting her cup down, Rei reached for the bowl of cookies – only to find it empty. 'What?!' It had been full just a few minutes ago. Then her gaze settled on the obvious culprit, who still had cookie crumbs around her mouth. Lots of them. And who was again reading her comic books without permission.

"USAGI!!! How dare you eat all the cookies?!" she yelled at Usagi's face, then yanked the comics the blonde girl had been reading away from her. Inspecting the pages, her face turned red from fury. "And scatter crumbs all over my comic book, too?!!!"

Tears started forming in Usagi's eyes.

"Humph. Don't think I'll forgive you if you cry." Rei pointedly looked away.

Usagi started wailing, loud enough to make the three remaining girls cover their ears. "Rei-chan's being mean to me again!!!"

Part 3: Makoto

"There," Makoto told herself cheerfully as she managed to fit the second lunch box into her bag. It had been a while since she had last made lunch for someone else, and the last time had been for a boy, but it was better to be prepared when going to a picnic with Usagi-chan and the other girls. Especially Usagi-chan. Ever since they had met for the first time, the blonde girl had been so in love with her cooking and always found some way to get some of her lunch.

Her thoughts drifted to the day they had first met, back when she had transferred to Juban junior high. Everybody had been too scared of the rumors that she had been kicked out of her previous school because of fighting to even approach her. Everyone except Usagi-chan, who had complimented her on her cooking even then. And...Usagi-chan had been the first person to tell her she really was pretty and feminine, whereas others only saw how big for a girl she was, too. And because of Usagi-chan, she had made other wonderful friends, too.

It wasn't just because they were sailor soldiers and Usagi-chan was the princess that she wanted to protect her – it was because of Usagi-chan herself. No matter what, she would stand by her side to the very end.

"What am I thinking?" Makoto slapped herself on the forehead. "We're going to a picnic, not to war." Humming to herself, she strode out of her apartment to join the other girls. And, as always, Usagi was instantly eager to know what kind of lunch she had made.

Part 4: Minako

"That was only luck!" Minako protested. "I demand a rematch!"

Usagi stuck out her tongue in a playful way. "No way."

"You have to! You can't just walk out like that!" Minako lunged at Usagi, only to realize she had forgotten how clumsy Usagi was. Both of them ended up in a heap on the floor next to the racing game.

"What's up, girls?" Motoki asked, "Quarreling like siblings over a game?"

Minako blushed and quickly got up. "Oh, it's nothing. Right, Usagi-chan?"

"Oh, is that so? Then, the next game is on me," Motoki said with a smile, dropping a 100-yen coin into the coin slot.

"See, Usagi-chan? Now you have to play one more time," Minako said. "This time I'll win for sure!"

'Like siblings, eh?' Minako thought as they once again started playing. 'I guess so. You're like a precious sister to me, Usagi-chan. And maybe we are quite similar, too.' Constantly being late and having to stay to study after school suddenly popped to her mind. Too similar. 'No, not like that...We're both sailor soldiers and...I suppose I just can't imagine a life without you. Not because you're the princess. Because I feel so calm and warm inside whenever I'm with you. So I really want to protect you.'

"Yahoo! I win again!"

Usagi's exclamation jerked Minako out of her thoughts, only to leave her staring at the flashing 'Game Over' on the screen right in front of her. She hadn't been paying attention to the game at all! "One more time, Usagi-chan! The future star of the racing world just can't lose three times in a row!"
